We toured Brookdale Great Bend. The tour was very informative. It was very clean and very homey. It was our favorite place that we had looked at. They have a beauty shop and a PT room. There's a puzzle table, and there's entertainment there to keep everybody busy. The staff during our tour all seemed very friendly and very pleasant. However, it was to lockdown.

I loved Brookdale Great Bend and wanted my brother there, but it didn't fit him because he would try to escape. It's a beautiful place, but it's quite large. The lady who showed me around was wonderful and even called to check how my brother was doing. I'd rate her a 5. They were playing bingo when I was there.

This is my third experience having a loved one cared for at Brookdale, Great Bend, KS. Each and every time I have been more than pleased with the level of care, caring and overall standards of this care facility. The staff goes above and beyond every day, every hour, every moment to engage and love each and every one of their residents. They are ready with hugs whenever anyone needs one, including me! My mother, father and now my mother-in-law is/have been residents, each at different times in the course of 25 years. Each and every time the administrative staff have fully answered and offered options to each of my questions promptly and with a caring smile. The actual caregivers doing the "not so fun work at times," always have a smile on their face and are loving and kind to each resident. They are helpful to the family members with suggestions to make things easier on the resident. They are knowledgeable and seem to know how to handle each individual resident with different techniques that make their life easier. Each resident is treated with respect and it is evident that the staff genuinely care, and I'm a very good judge of character! The facility is a "happy" environment with amazing, fun activities for those who wish to participate. Their food preparation and meals are top of the line--it's like eating at a restaurant at every meal, including a delectable dessert served with a smiling face. Their facility is spotless at all times and the residents' apartments are kept very clean. Brookdale Great Bend decorates for every holiday and they have many celebrations for residents, family and friends to enjoy. Although it is never easy to move our loved ones from their life-long homes, Brookdale Great Bend does everything in their power to make the transition pleasant, as well as fully supporting the family. They are always there to lend an ear to those of us making the hard decisions for our loved ones. I have seen first hand my beloved mother thrive in the community (she has since passed away). Now my mother-in-law is gaining much needed weight, has made new friends and is no longer so lonely. I cannot say enough good things about this facility right here in our small town of Great Bend, Kansas. We are fortunate to have a facility with such high standards! I highly recommend Brookdale Great Bend.

My wife's sister and brother in law have been at Sterling House in Gt. Bend, Kansas for three years. There has been problems from the start. My sister in law was supposed to be on a low salt diet and the doctor's orders have not been followed. The food there was bad and they were unable to keep the kitchen staff so the other employee's to do the cooking. We got a lady ombudsman to check this problem out and she did get some of the meals for my sister in law's meal for the better. In 2012, the rule was that there were to be two people to help my sister in law to the bathroom. When she called for help, only one lady came. She said that she could help her. When in the bathroom, she dropped her, fell on her and it was bad. She was air lifted to Wichita where they found she had fractured vertbrae in her neck and two in her lower back. She was put in a molded cast on her back and a neck brace which she is still wearing since the late winter of 2012. The neck brace does not allow her to raise her head up and as she has to only see the floor. We are going to get the ombudsman to take another look into this problem and the lack of care. When we visited in November, the meal that we saw served, was soup and sandwiches for the main two meals that day. As for me, it would be a cold day in well if I were living there and not standing up for what I feel that is proper and honest.
