My mother is in Evansville Protestant Home nursing home and our experience has been great. We chose this place because of the proximity and recommendation from the hospital. The staff is very friendly, they take really good care of her and it's clean. I don't have anything we don't like about it yet. I haven't tried the food yet, but she enjoys it and she says it's really good. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable, and the overall facilities are kept up real nice. They have a courtyard or a patio-type area. They have bingo, and she really likes bingo and she enjoys it. I've gone to visit her a couple of times, but I haven't seen the whole facility, but what I've seen is nice and she enjoys it. And. They have a lot of activities for them.

The staff are all excellent workers. Feels like a family. Don't just put a loved one in the home, make sure you come and visit and get to know the people.

Food is terrible, cold, hard to chew, and non delicious appearance. Resident Room is dirty, laundry loses clothing- never returned, what clothing comes back is dull and wrinkled. Theft from residents room on two occasions, some employees are extremely rude and argues with residents. Some employees are not careful transferring the resident leaving bruises and causing resident depression. Resident left resident in bathroom unattended for one hr before they answered call light. This home has gone down hill.

Evansville Protestant Home is a well-kept facility. It's older, but it's clean. It has a nice dining room, and the food was good and nutritious. The game room and exercise area are good, and the staff is professional and accommodating.

This facility has gone downhill significantly in the last 4+ years. The food was in the excellent category when my relative arrived and now its practically inedible. The most recent issue was just last weekend. Hot dogs were on the menu and were served COLD!!! Not lukewarm but right out of the refrigerator COLD! This is just the latest problem. In the last 2 months my relative has gone to bed hungry because the food was so poorly prepared or the quality was so bad that he/she could not eat it. That was for both lunch and supper. The word is.... don't eat out on Monday lunch because that is the best food of the week. Know why? Because board members and admin eats there on Monday! I would address this forcefully, but, my relative feels like he/she would be held accountable for my actions. If I could convince relative to leave, I would cheerfully remove him/her from what has become a difficult situation. Many of the other residents feel the same, but, also are fearful to complain more than they have. At this point, all of their cries for help have gone unrecognized. Candidly, the board and admin just don't care. I threatened to take the issues to a TV station or the Vanderburgh Dept. of Health. Its not right to take advantage of those who are not able to take care of themselves.

My grandmother is in the Protestant Home. The care is fine. They probably need more people, especially on the weekends; they need to fill in for the staff who are on their day off. They’re on top of things with cleanliness; it’s clean, and it’s fine. When a patient moves out of a room they clean it, they paint, they do everything so it looks fine. I even commend them because Grandmom usually looks out of her window, and the maintenance guy placed a bird feeder outside of her window. He even trimmed down some bushes so she can have a view.

Having never visited or had relatives live in an assisted living community before, I really wasn't sure what to expect. After the first visit however, I was blown away by all that this place offers. First, they have 3 "tiers" of support that they offer to their residents. (1) Complete and total care, (2) casual assistance like a dorm/hotel room where it is kept clean, but you still have independence and (3)a full apartment for those that require little to no assistance.My grandmother lived in the level 2 area. She had all of her personal items, television and clothes right there with her, but was also able to notify the staff at any time, 24 hours a day, when she needed their help. They would also check on her a few times a day regardless for food and medication needs.The biggest surprise I had about this facility was the amount of activities that they offered. My grandmother used to talk about all of the fun things she got to do on a daily basis. This would include bingo, church services, card games, musicians/singers, movies, holiday dinners, and even Wii Bowling! She would always be excited to show off the small prizes (little trinkets and whatnot) that she would win.She was extremely resistive to the thought of moving out of her home, but once she was there, I don't think you could have pulled her out. The food was good, the staff was genuinely caring and compassionate, and the events kept her active and were fun. When she passed away, the Protestant Home even sent flowers.I have no doubt that had she gotten better off, that she would've wanted to move into one of the apartment buildings instead of back into her home just so she could still be apart of the community and friends she had made. She loved it there and we were blessed to have found a place to take such good care of her in her final years.
