Bickford of Carmel was a secure facility. The doors were locked and so we had to be let in. I thought that was nice, especially since a part of that facility is memory care. You wouldn't know what stage your relatives might be in when they're there. So, it was nice to know that they can't just walk away and be lost on their own. I was going to meet with Peggy, but instead, it was Caitlin who took me on the tour. She did a very good job. She took me to a nice room (just as you came through the lobby) where we sat at a large table. She then introduced me to a little bit about the facility before we took a tour of the facility. They had a movie theater, a game room where people could put puzzles together and play games, and a nice dining area. The thing that mpressed me was that the whole layout was in a large square. One thing that impressed me was the ability for a resident to be there on their own, but they're well taken care of. Then if their memory would deteriorate or if they would have issues, they could remain in that same facility and go into the memory care area. Their menu was impressive, too. They had choices that the residents could have.

I chose Bickford of Carmel for my friend because it had both assisted living and memory care; you could just pick the one that your resident would qualify for. We tried assisted living, but it turned out that he has dementia that had progressed to the point where he needed memory care. He is still in assisted living at the moment, we will be moving him to memory care eventually. They have chefs so they have regular, delightful meals. They have quite a few residents, so you have a few people to make friends with. They have a very professional staff, and the maintenance guys are very kind to the tenants. The marketing woman was very knowledgeable, delightfully easy to talk to, and not at all pushy about selling you on the rental agreement. The place is new and elegant inside; it's not some cheap, contractor-grade construction. It has all these stoneworks and a beautiful courtyard that is in the center of the large circle, and the residents can come and go at will. It has a covered area as well as an open area, a barbecue grill, and plants. It's quite lovely, and the whole place is exceptionally clean. The decor is beautiful; it is not like an apartment complex but more like an elegant home. They also have nurses on staff.

My uncle currently has an assisted living apartment and he is thriving. The staff Makes him feel safe, comfortable and cared for. They go above and beyond our expectations. Staff treats residents like family and we feel as if they are part of our family. Professional excellence. Thank you for all you do, keeping you all in our prayers.

The staff is so loving and caring, the rooms are beautiful, with a walk in closets, walk in showers. So much room to move around. The entire building is like a home. The chefs cook the most interesting and wonderful meals. The residents all look so happy and engaged. It warms my heart each time I go and visit!

Bickford of Carmel is full term care, I liked the rooms, and they were nice sized. The shared rooms were more private because they were so big, and the way they had them situated still had a private feel to it. My dad's a fall risk, so it's very important to me that they have a good response rate. I was impressed that they had screens up on the ceiling that lit up with messages if someone needed help in a room, so that anyone working at the facility walking by would see if someone needed help that they could assist. They were just starting a new program in their large therapy department for Parkinson's, and they have lots of activities. They do a good job, and the staff seemed wonderful, very friendly, and -- from what I could see from the interaction -- did well with the residents.

My dad was in the Bickford of Carmel. There was too much of a turnover of people, the food was terrible, and the treatment was questionable.

We looked at the Bickford of Carmel. It was a very new, clean facility. Also, they had a very engaged staff. The staff was not assigned specific tasks and did a variety of things. It was also a little high-end because of the cost.

Bickford of Carmel is brand-new, and just opened over a year ago. It's got great location in a complex-like area. It's smaller with only less than forty beds in assisted-living plus eighteen in memory-care. It had a very good family atmosphere. They even call their staff-members family members. They act more multipurpose, so that everybody does everything. I like the physical layout of the facility. It was all on a single floor, kind of a rectangle around a central courtyard; so people could walk laps within the facility for exercise. People were more connected in a smaller environment compared to a two or three-story facility. The other thing that impressed me there was they seemed to pay a great deal of attention to the food. My dad might end up preferring them because food is very important to him. The shared community areas were very nice as was the dining room.

The staffing at Bickford is based more on the needs of the residents rather than just a number's game, so I did like that they thought out-of-the-box in terms of how they need to staff the facility. Individuals actually perform multiple roles instead of just a given role, so that was nice. They had very nice, accommodating rooms; they allow you to customize the paint and do some different things. They had a lot of activities posted and try to keep the residents active not only on certain days, but throughout the entire week.

I walked in and was greeted right away. I really liked that it was like someone coming to my front door. The building is so cozy, you walk right into the living room were I saw many people sitting on the couch and just talking. I want for sure about this concept when I first visited, but I like knowing that mom is not just living in an apartment but using the whole building as her home. I really liked that there were not all these separate activity rooms. My mom will not get lost on what rooms they are having what and it is nice that it is much like home, where we all might be doing something different but we are all still on the same area. I feel like everyone is always very busy. I realize that her caregiver does everything just like I did for her at home, mom likes feeling that family is taking care of her, even when I am not able to be there.

Bickford of Carmel was fine; however, the prices were out of this world. It was ridiculously expensive. The rooms were very small for what they're charging. In terms of activities, there was nothing at that time because it was still under construction. They didn't have a lot of community things, like some other places have a theater room where people can get together to watch movies They didn't have anything like that. As a whole, what they could improve is the price.
