Great niece Shelly
My great Aunt moved in a year ago. She has some memory issues and we were paying for assistance for her. We were told an assistant would help her warm the bathroom and help her shower. She did not shower the entire time she lived there. That’s 12 months. When I would ask the nurse, should would say, “we ask her and she said she has showered.” The shower, soap, nor any of the linens were ever used. No one encouraged her to do any activities of daily living. Not brushing her teeth or bathing. She is 93. She was sent to the hospital with a PE and they are charging me 30 days rent since she will not be able to return as she now needs a higher level of care. I feel they are kicking her while she is down. We paid an extra $800 a month for assisted living and all they did to assist her was give her meds twice a day. No one reminded her and made sure she was showering or brushing her teeth. Once when we went, she had plates of food laying around and some had mold growing on them. The nurse who took her meds in didn’t throw them away or ask her to, if that’s beyond their duties. I am shocked by their lack of compassion and charging her rent while we are trying to pay medical bills and pay for nursing home care, because they cannot give her the care and oxygen she now needs.
I can say, everyone knew who she was, they seemed friendly when we were there. She really didn’t do any activities, as she needed someone to remind her of what was happening. They helped keep her from burning my home down or harming herself. For that, I am thankful.

Woodland Terrace is a fairly new assisted living facility. The physical environment is very nice. They just changed owners and that is where the problems haven come in. The food quality and service has gone downhill. The menu and quality of food used to be excellent; in fact they opened their dining room to the public. Now the menu has less choices than before. The consistency of food served is horrible. It is served after a long wait, cold, and sometimes burnt. It is different depending on the cook. As an example, scrambled eggs are served chopped in small pieces and cold even though they supposedly prepare your order individually. The next time you order it is cooked differently no matter how you order it. The food service is advertised as cooked to order; not true. The vegetable choices are limited. When specific problems are mentioned to the chef, he ignores the residents. Basic food quality is lacking. The rent has gone up by 4% last year and by 8% starting in 2023. There were three levels of assisted living care. Residents could choose to live independently; now they are charged for assisted living expenses even if most of them are not actually provided. The nursing staff is friendly and caring but staffing is limited. Sometimes on the weekends there is only one nurse/LPN covering three floors of patients. Despite the raises in rent, the staff has not been increased and full-time positions are rare. All the increased rent charges do not improve service or food quality; in fact it continues to decrease. Talking to facility management is pointless if you can even get them to call you back. It is sad how they advertise the facility compared to reality. Justus Company was an excellent owner. The new owner, New Perspective, is very disappointing.

My mother liked this initially for independent living because the food was so good but as she's transitioned to assisted living she finds them rude and unhelpful, and the administrators don't care about the residents at all. She called me last week in tears - she doesn't want to leave because she's settled but she doesn't feel comfortable asking for anything. She's been there for about a year but I feel like we're goign to have to find another place soon. It's very nice but I can't keep her somewhere where it feels borderline abusive.

My father stayed at Woodland Terrace of New Palestine. We had a great experience there for respite care. The staff was good for the most part. We dined there and that was great.

Woodland Terrace's single room was beautiful, but very small, and it didn't have a stove. The place was just freshly opened so there weren't a lot of people yet. The dining area was outstanding and formal. They had an activity room and an excellent theater room. The person at the desk was very nice, the two activity ladies were outstanding, and the marketing manager was wonderful. The place was brand new, but it was a long way from doctors.
