Wickshire Fort Harrison was presented well. It's an older building, but it was clean. My mother-in-law's apartment is nice. My biggest concern is just the head people have come and gone and then other people don't show up to work. The saleswoman was quite nice, though, but she left, as well as the finance guy. Not considering that, everything else is fine.
They give her a calendar every week, they take them on a bus twice a month to go shopping, they have a bookmobile that comes once a week, and then they do bingo or puzzles. They have a lot to offer if they take advantage of that. They have a woman that comes in once or twice a week for beauty care, some exercise equipment in the building, big-screen TVs, and very nice lobbies. They come around and bring a vacuum cleaner and clean the bathroom once a week and take the sheets off her bed. One time, it took probably five months to finally get the microwave that she was supposed to have from the beginning. It's not overly expensive and they take the Medicaid waiver, and so that's a positive.

My family member required a great deal of care and the staff was prepared to provide what she needed. They are also challenging her to relearn occupational therapy methods she learned previously.
Wickshire’s staff is very nice and helpful with her. They have been very accommodating while she became adjusted to the Assisted Living lifestyle and her new apartment.

My mother is at Wickshire Fort Harrison. For the most part, she's very comfortable. We really don't have any issues. There was one minor issue with a staff member, but that's been resolved. Overall, I've been very pleased with the care that she's received and continues to receive. She's basically blind and her hearing is not very good. She isn't able to participate in things like she used to, but she used to really enjoy participation in the activities.
As far as the care goes and communication, I'm quite pleased with it. I certainly don't have any complaints about it. There was one minor issue, but it wasn't a dramatic issue at all. She has a lot of confusion too, so I don't always know exactly if things are what she says. I talked with the people involved in it and there hasn't been any other problems. She's still relatively independent. She gets help with bathing and that sort of thing for precaution sake, but she manages pretty well on her own. They'll read her mail to her and cut up her food.
They've had so much turnover with this COVID thing, but the staff there is very caring. I feel like I know almost everybody who works there. They're very personal and relationship oriented. The facility is very pleasant. When you walk in it's got a nice entry area, and there's a piano there. Before all of this took place they had musicians coming in and doing performances. There is a lady who lives there who plays the piano and people will sing along. There is oftentimes just music playing at the fireplace, and it's very pleasant. The dining room is very pleasant, and the apartments are quite nice and small.
My mother has a one-bedroom apartment and it's perfect for her. She has a nice walk-in shower and a little kitchenette. The kitchens there are just really microwaves; they're not cooking kitchens. She has a nice view outside of her window. She can look out into Fort Bend State Park and not everybody can do that. It depends on where they are in the building, but she's got a great location. The residents can help with the gardening in the appropriate seasons. In years past they have helped with growing some fruits and vegetables and they can use those for cooking in the kitchen. They help with the flowers if they want to. They get a good value for their money there. It's very small and this was one of the things that my mom really liked about it. I think they only have 50 some apartments and there's a studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom.

When it was owned by Elmcroft I would give it 3 or 4 stars, but when it became Wickshire the price went up from $2400 to $3200 a month.
But then they had a high turn over of employee as the pandemic was starting, my mother was being neglected and something was wrong with her pills.
I noticed many other residents leaving and I had to get my mother out.
Not once did they hold a meeting with me to discuss my mothers needs.
It put her under unneeded distress, and created a severe hardship on the both of us.
Stay away from this place, it is not what it used to be.

My mother has been a resident in this facility for almost 5 years. Her daily needs have changed from independent to needing assistance in many details. This transition is been very comfortable and accommodating. No matter what staff member is meeting her needs (nurse, aide, office manager, concierge, dining) she continually tells me how sweet and patient everyone is. Wickshire became the new owner of this pandemic. I cannot say enough about how they have managed the care of their residents during this DIFFICULT time. Not sure if I should mention a name, but the new office manager is so kind, diligent, helpful, cheerful to both my mother and me with assistance, answering questions, etc. It seems she has been there the entire time, not just a little over a month.

The director and nurse supervisor are great. The one bedroom apt is great. The staff is understaffed and don't respond quickly. The food is poor and constantly changing menu items.

The people were very nice. It's a good facility, but I didn't like the location. The layout was similar with the one we've chosen, but this place was smaller. The rooms were good.

It was OK. They got a nice lobby there and the apartments were nice. The staff who assisted me was good and she explained everything and showed the community well. The dining area was nice, too. They had a wall, which was all windows. Cleanliness was good, too.

We moved my mom to this community. It is a smaller community with 57 residents, and it turned out to be a very good fit for my mom. Everything is excellent. The staff is fabulous. They are caring, compassionate, and kind. I just came from lunch there, and the food is very good. Everything was just a good fit for us.
