Description

About This Community
Bickford of Greenwood offers premier memory care and assisted living services. The fullest expression of assistance comes with an intimate understanding of the residents at Bickford of Greenwood. Each resident of the Indiana assisted living home is unique, as are the services they require, and the manner in which they wish for them to be met. The Greenwood senior community staff also knows firsthand the confusion that memory loss creates in relationships with loved ones. That's why its Alzheimer's care community strives to make every activity intentional and personally driven by each individual's life story. Bickford of Greenwood doesn't ask residents to give up their homes, treasures, or memories. Instead, it wants them to bring the pieces of the home they love into the Indiana assisted living and memory care community and make it theirs.

We toured Bickford of Greenwood. We love that. It was very nice, but it was over our price limit. We love the community. It was a single story, so we didn't have to worry about elevators or anything like that. It's probably a little bit older property, but it's very well-maintained. We were very impressed. When we walked in, there was a young girl, I think she's one of the granddaughters of one of the residents, and she was singing songs with the residents, and they seemed to be having a good time. It was very nice. I would be very comfortable with Mom living there and she probably would be, but the price was a little bit out of our price range. It felt like an apartment complex; it did not feel like assisted living. They have a square configuration, you have the hallways going around that, and everyone has an individual apartment. I kind of like that it's a little bit older building. It's kind of rustic. It's a wonderful facility.

Bickford of Greenwood seemed homey. It didn't seem as spacious as the other place though, so it's a little bit more cramped. Upkeep and cleanliness were adequate. The person who assisted me was knowledgeable and willing to help, and she did call me and say that they would assist in moving also. We were not there during the meal, but we saw the dining area and it seemed kind of on the smaller side. I think it's good that there were not as many residents there. I liked the courtyard and they have a bus that takes trips with their residents, so that was also good.

Although I alerted staff of my mother’s UTI, the UTI was left untreated for four days (with no monitoring by staff) and she ultimately required a trip to the emergency room and remained hospitalized for eight days. They are short staffed, and the aides are so busy taking food orders, serving and cleaning up, that they don’t have time to notice changes in resident’s conditions. My mother’s mental status had rapidly declined as a result of the UTI, and no one heeded my request to start a prophylactic antibiotic. In addition to this, when my mother fell last April, they did not request an X-ray because her leg “didn’t look swollen or red.” They left her reclined in her chair. However, when I arrived to visit her the next day, she couldn’t put weight on the leg. They told me to take her by car to Ortho-Indy for an X-ray. Ortho Indy determined that she had a comminuted fracture of the left tibia that required surgery. In addition to the tibia break, she had also suffered cervical fractures! Let’s just say that after these two strikes, we moved her out. The facility may look nicely decorated, but looks can be deceiving.

Bickford of Greenwood is on the top of our list. We felt that it was very homey. It doesn't look institutionalized. The lady was very friendly, very informative, and helpful. She tended to our emotional needs. The residents were all welcoming. It didn't feel like I was in a facility. They have a walking club, which would help my mother. They have cards, bingo, and movie night. The priest from the church that my mother goes to comes down once a week for communion, and that's important.

Bickford of Greenwood didn't look like a nursing home at all. It was very homey and seemed to be very one on one with their residents. They wanted to know my mom's specialty things, like what she likes to eat and drink and they were taking notes. If she were to be there, I think she'd be taken more care of. The staff was all very happy and cheerful. They even shook my hand and introduced themselves.

My mom is in Bickford of Greenwood and it's been great. They're just like little apartments. She's staying in a 1-bedroom apartment. The staff all seem to be very helpful and I'm happy with the place. She's just not excited about the food, it's too fancy for her. They play bingo and they have all kinds of activities going on. They post a monthly schedule of when all the activities are going to go on. They have ice cream trucks come in and those kinds of things. I think it was ridiculously expensive though. There's nothing cheap about it at all. I hate to think of what it's going to cost when we have to go over to the memory care part of it because she does have dementia. She was just at the borderline so she's staying in assisted living for a while.

We chose Bickford of Greenwood for my husband because they were able to get him the therapy that he needed. He seems very happy, and he likes the food. They come when he needs assistance. He's just depressed because he's by himself and I can't visit. The staff is very nice. The place is very, very nice, clean and well-decorated. The only thing I can say is that they seem short on staff, but I like that he's gonna get the care that he needs. He's a little bit far from the cafeteria with the disability that he has, so they often have to take a wheelchair to take him. The layout is no worse than any other, but the therapy comes to him, so that's a really good thing for him. He hasn't done any of their activities yet in terms of the disability that he has, so we're hoping he improves. It's a really nice facility.

The problem with Bickford of Greenwood was that once my mom's money runs out they don't accept Medicare; they're all private pay. The place was clean, and there was no smell like most nursing homes or other similar places. It was a very pleasant and nice community. Everybody was very friendly, and the staff knew everybody. If any of the residents came out of their rooms, the staff would say hi to them all; it was a really nice atmosphere. They had an exercise area, a craft room, an area where you do rehab-type things, like they teach you how to help yourself in the kitchen and things like that. So that was very nice. We didn't trust our mom to cook anymore, so it was a nice set up that the rooms only had a microwave and refrigerator. When you walk in, it looks like a regular nursing home, but everything was nice and clean. The size of the rooms and the showers were sufficient.

Bickford of Greenwood is very nice, warm and inviting. The staff is very nice. It looked like they did a lot of things as a group and they had relationships with the residents rather than just being caregivers. The dining area was very nice and their menu looked pretty good. The only thing against them is they don't have sufficient parking, but they said they're working on that. They also don't accept Medicaid.

Bickford of Greenwood is a small place with very caring and loving people. They engage my mom all the time, and they give her things to keep her busy. She's happy there. It's like a big group home, warm, and friendly. The food is all home-cooked, fresh, and they have a chef. The staff has been great, but I'm sure there's still room for improvement. They take the residents on trips two or three times a week, they take them to the park once a week to do morning walks, they have exercises every day in the lobby, they have music time every day, and they bring in people to do their hair and fingernails.

I wasn't exceptionally pleased with it Bickford of Greenwood. They serve three meals a day, and I believe they have the limousine or van service that would take the residents to doctors' offices. It was out of our price range, and I didn't really like the rooms and apartments because they were smaller. It was nothing I was interested in.

Bickford of Greenwood had a very nice setting. They had two areas: one for basic assisted living and another for memory care. They had everything for activities, including puzzles, bingo, dancing, music, and crafts.

Bickford of Greenwood is the facility we chose for my mother, and we loved it. It was excellent. The surrounding was very nice. The staff was excellent, and very caring. It was sort of their main mission to care for their residents. The rooms were in great size, and very nicely arranged.

The dining area at Bickford of Greenwood is very airy and open. It was very inviting, neat, and clean. It made me want to eat there. It sort of reminds you of outside dining. The sanitation of this facility looked fabulous. The only thing I didn't like about it is the rooms are incredibly small. The staff was wonderful though. It was not clinical, and they seem to be very friendly and inviting. I can't come up with anything bad to say about them at this point.

We have found Bickford of Greenwood, and my sister-in-law is very happy. The staff was very warm, friendly, and accommodating. They have parties and a lot of socializing, and she is also able to get a ride from there to go shopping occasionally. They have the kind of amenities that we have been hoping would appeal to her. She has been really accommodated by so many people and befriended. She goes with a particular couple who live there. She goes with them to church on Sundays, and she really appreciates that. She will be taken to the doctor, they take care for her well. It was warm and friendly. It was clean. I ate with her one or two times, and the food was good. She has been happy with the meals, and everybody that I talked to was just very open and happy. She has a very little studio apartment, and she was able to move in her furniture so it’s become very familiar to her.
