My mom moved into the Lutheran Hillside Village. The staff members, from the bottom up, have all been very caring for what my mom needs and how she feels about this and that. My mom is comfortable, and she's getting used to it. The rooms are very nice, well-appointed, and well-taken care of. The staff members are all very friendly and helpful. The dining area is clean, and bright, and seems to have plenty of room for people to get around. There are a lot of activities. Within the assisted living facility, my mom finds that they have different groups that meet from time to time. She plays bingo. She goes to Bible studies and movies. They have musicians come in and perform. She very much appreciates the libraries, where she reads about a book a day.

Lutheran Hillside Village is one of my top choices. Number one, because of their ability to handle all necessary levels of care. And number two, because of their caring and professionalism. The tour was excellent. The staff was exceptionally knowledgeable about senior care requirements and their ability to match the patient's needs with the type of care required. The facility is excellent. It's exceptionally clean, has a lot of community spaces, and has an excellent dining room atmosphere. I saw their menu, and the menu was very impressive.

I visited Lutheran Village. The rooms were very nice and laid out nicely. The staff was pretty good, it's just that they don't tell you everything. They don't tell you that they have a waiting list to get in there, and that the residents get priority for the rooms. You go through the whole process of filling out the paperwork, get denied, and that's frustrating. I liked it, it was clean, and well-decorated.

Lutheran Hillside Village's application process and the options on you can finance getting in there were very appealing to us. For example, you can do it one or 2 ways -- you can try to sell your home and then use the proceeds of your home to purchase your apartment, or you can gift your home to the facility and then the facility will actually give you credit for the amount that it appraises towards the purchase of your apartment. The only difference is if you sell your own home and then purchase, when the resident passes away, the family gets 95% of the value. If you have them sell the home and you gift the home to them, you only get 50% of the value. Mom will be moving in there. The facility is very modern, and they're expanding. They're creating more assisted living quarters because the residency is aging, and they're keeping everything fresh. The appealing thing for us is Mom is able to stay in her apartment for as long as she can and if she needs some sort of assistance like making sure she takes her meds, she can move to the assisted living portion of the facility, and when you no longer can maintain yourself in the assisted living, you go right into nursing care. So it's all in one location, and you get preferential to moving through all the phases because you're a resident. It was just a smooth process for the application, the purchase, and the contract. All that went well, very simple, streamlined, and didn't take us long. We just looked into this a month ago, and now she's ready to move.

Wonderful caring place to live. My husband and I stayed for a week with my mother a resident at Lutheran Hillside Village. I walked all over the halls and the different floors. Everything was spotless and brightly lite. Nothing will be perfect but we found this place for seniors far superior to most others.

I have been at Lutheran Hillside Village for four years now. Overall, this is a very good facility, and I am satisfied. Their apartments are excellent. We do have different activities like happy hour every Friday night and many more. They have a bus that takes the residents out. The staff was very good and very nice as well. Their food is very good. I have no problems with regard to their security; it's very good.

I thought Lutheran Hillside was a very nice and very clean facility. The staff was nice, and the gentleman was very polite, knowledgeable, and professional -- we’re impressed. In the assisted living facility they had a section that was very homey and had like a little workshop and a library, and the way it was laid out was really comfortable. It was secure. They have different rooms where people could do different hobbies, and that was very nice. They have games, they have areas where they could do woodworking and you could do things own your own. It was actually built in to look like a home workshop, and it has gardening areas where people can do different hobbies that they might like. It didn't just have bingo games and the usual things that you see at other facilities. The dining room was very nice, in between classy and homey

I was with Lutheran Social Services in Peoria, IL. I chose them because they had helpers with cars that can drive because I needed to purchase a wheelchair. I had a problem with them because I needed to get the driving situation settled. I only had one caregiver with them because I like her so much and she was perfect for me.

My father was a resident here in the rehab area and then the long-term skilled nursing area. We felt he received tremendous and compassionate care from everyone on staff. When my sister and I visited the facility before we actually needed it, the first thing I noticed was a resident dog. I know from other experiences, any place that has a resident pet is a welcoming and friendly place, and that proved true here. They also welcomed a visit from a 10-month-old, and many times when we arrived to visit my dad, we found cards and other artwork from local kids. The facility was very clean. The decorations were pretty, there was a lot of light, and the dining room was very nice as well. The food was decent, and the staff worked very hard to find what residents would eat, even offering to pick up something for them if it would get them to eat. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was that we did have some difficulty getting follow-up on paperwork we needed. We had to contact the staff several times before we could get documentation for insurance, which was frustrating. I get the feeling they might be overwhelmed in that area. Otherwise, we were very happy with our experience there, and we have Mom on the wait list for the future.

Upon entering this facility, I first had to travel down a labyrythine hallway where the decor became increasingly dreary and the lighting ever more dingy. At the conclusion of this hallway the residential halls began. Here there was no decor at all. The only thing close to ambiance was a lingering odor of urine and human waste. The lighting was duller yet. After encountering unfriendly and unhelpful staff I began to pity anyone who had to remain in this facility for longer than 5 minutes. Inhabitants were lined up in wheelchairs in the corridors, most sitting there ignored, staring blankly. After a while, the residents were carted off to the dining room and cheerless staff place clothing protectors upon them. The food appeared less than appealing. The meat looked dry and overcooked. There didn't seem to be alternatives offered should a person not enjoy what was being served. Those people who were being fed by staff were largely ignored by the staff members feeding them. Food was shovelled into their mouths and that was about all. Some residents appeared to need assistance but were not being helped. After the meal, those in wheelchairs were pushed back out into the hallway to again sit with little to no human contact.I was told there was an "Activies Department" but did not see any of the residents involved in that during the time I was in the facility. Overall, not a cheerful place to be.
