Holmstead is very convenient to where my wife and I live. I like the idea that they had options for care at different levels as a person's condition change and start to need more assistance. The facility itself is very, very nice. It's a large campus right across the street from a river, so they have a very nice piece of real estate. The facility is beautiful. Everyone that I've met there is absolutely committed to care. My father's been there now well over a year. I would absolutely recommend them.

My family has a long history with Homestad Covenant Community located in Batavia, IL. My great-grandfather lived there during the last chapter of his life, while my grandparents and one great-aunt retired to the community as well. In fact, my grandparents moved into my great-grandfather's old apartment, at the end of the hall on the first floor they have a lovely corner place with twice the windows. I visited often as Homstad is a short bicycle ride from my home. One year, my grandparents "hosted" Thanksgiving at Homestad the facility offers a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to its residents and their families. Although the food was not bad, it was nowhere near as good as Grandma's cooking. Recently, Homestad built a large addition which includes an indoor pool, small convenience store, and even a small salon where the ladies can have their hair done. The addition is beautiful, and adds a sense of grandeur to the otherwise outdated facade of the original building.

I first visited my grandparents at the facility for Thanksgiving. Their home is like an apartment, very spacious, and very modern. The next time I visited them was during Christmas. We dined at the restaurant within the community. All the staff was extremely nice and referred to my grandparents by their names, which tells me they were well acquainted. I was given a tour of the facility by my grandparents, and it seemed like there was quite a bit to do if a resident wants to be involved and stay active. My grandparents have been managing the thrift store in the community, and I know it brings them a lot of joy and a sense of purpose. Overall I was very impressed with the facility and the professionalism of the staff.

The price is high, but not unaffordable. It is just the kind of place that I myself hope to retire to one day. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a retirement community with a nursing staff on call and a hospital attached to it. There is a fair amount for a retired person to do; the staff organizes numerous activities for members of the resident community. I hope that the Homestead continues to grow and expand, maybe even opening more franchises in other cities and states - it is truly the kind of environment an elderly or retired person should call home if they wish to stay physically, socially, and mentally active. Like stated earlier, the staff is warm and friendly, always going out of their way to be as helpful as their means allow. It is the kind of community where individuals look out for each other - and the best part is that residents get their own apartment where they can live as independent as they desire.
