Lewis Memorial Christian Village was a very good, clean, older building. We liked the apartments. The staff seemed very caring. The person who gave us the tour was very good. She listened when we gave her information of what we were looking for and gave us information. The only thing we saw that was a drawback was that they need to go to another building to do the activities. It was actually an ideal place for us because it’s close to my brother's house and in a nice neighborhood.

While there are some areas of the facility that are very nice, communication with the patient's family is extremely poor. They arbitrarily schedule meetings with the family and never notify the family of the meeting time and place. I have been told that they do not talk to the Power-of-Attorney if the patient is not incompetent. They promise that they will get information for you and let you know. It never happens. They tell you that they will have so-and-so call you and talk to you. It never happens. You call the facility to speak to someone and always get voicemail. You can leave dozens of messages on voicemail, but there will almost never be a return call. There is no follow through.

When looking for a place for my loved one, they made their facility sound so nice, but its so much different once you get your loved one into Lewis Memorial. They are over priced and way UNDER STAFFED. They have 1 nurse and 2 aides. If 1 resident needs a bath, it takes 2 aides to assist which leaves other residents to fend for them selves for 30-40 minutes. My loved one had to sit and wait 35 minutes for them to come help him to the restroom. My loved one had to sit on a filthy toilet seat all day, before house cleaning came to clean his room. The nurses were suppose to do some tests on my loved one for 3 days, but that never got done. My loved one had doctor appointment and they didn't wake him up until 15 minutes before they were suppose to transport him to his appointment, which meant that they rushed to get him ready that they didn't put a sweater on him and they didn't put his wheel chair feet on his wheel chair, which meant that I had to push him all the way to the doctors with his feet up in the air. I had an issue where one of their employees told my loved one that she had other patients to tend too and she didn't have time to keep taking him to the bathroom every 30 minutes. If your loved one has a controlled diet, they don't maintain or help your loved one watch what they eat. If its on the menu, they can order what ever is on it, which leaves your loved one that's on a low carb diet or low sugar diet, to eat what ever they want. You would think when your loved one is placed in a Private room and you pay the high price for that section, that you would get better care. That is not true. They don't care about the resident, they only care about the money, and they have the nerve to call their place a CHRISTIAN facility. What Christian would treat their elderly the way they do? What really bothered me is that the head nurse/supervisor would see their residents call light on and just walk right on by or a nurse would do the same. Nope my loved one didn't stay long here, that's for sure.

My parent has made an almost 180 degree improvement since moving to the Garden Villa at Lewis Memorial. Thank you to the wonderful caring staff.
