My uncle was at the Imperial for two and half years, and I thought it was a nice facility. They had a lot of activities for the residents and really tried to engage those that were, most of the time, not respondent. They had a lot of groups come in to entertain them, and also had them in a room watching movies where they provided popcorn and a little drink. I've watched them doing crafts and playing Bingo, and those who were in wheelchairs, who were not really engaged, would play Bingo. There wasn’t much being done as far as physical therapy for them; day to day, they just wheeled them in, then wheeled them out, and not do too much rehab with them, which is one of the reasons why I wanted my uncle to move in with my aunt in assisted living.

The location is great and very convenient, the community is very diverse and they have people that can communicate with everyone. Clean and organized, with a nice patio where people can relax. I asked several questions regarding care and everything was answered perfectly. Definitely a place I would visit again.

At this point, we have already gotten a place named Imperial Grove. I'm satisfied with this facility. The staff is good. I would say the cleanliness and maintenance is fine too. Friends of ours who go in there say it is very nice. It is also connected to an assisted living and independent living facility next door. It is very convenient in its location.

The Imperial Grove Pavilion, previously known simply as The Imperial, has been on Fullerton Avenue providing long term care for several decades. It is a typically safe urban setting near DePaul University. There is a short term rehab program offered that is generally well regarded. Over the past decade the programs within the facility have expanded some and supportive living was added next door. There is a designated parking lot but it can be full; street parking availability is fair depending on the day. The common areas of the building are nicely appointed and tastefully decorated. The lobby is small, but typically only utilized for waiting visitors. There are some common areas for residents to sit and relax though most common areas have a designated purpose so much visiting is done in resident rooms. Furniture and fixtures are contemporary and rooms are well maintained. Rooms are of average size and allow little to no space for personal items. Food is average to above average and typically appears appetizing. Care is typically good; most often staff are very kind, compassionate and appropriate; however there is sometimes a longer wait to get assistance, and at times there are nursing and care staff rotated onto the care floors that are not familiar with the residents. Staffing turnover is estimated to be about average for this type of urban facility.

I recently visited this nursing home when I was taking an Elder Law class for Law school. We interviewed the staff and the director and were given an in depth tour of the facilities and met one-on-one with staff and their goals for their facility. I was impressed with both the friendly staff and director and the cleanliness of the facility. In addition, they have security measures intact so that everyone door sets an alarm. There is both a retirement portion as well as a medical geared section of the nursing home, which looked like any other hospital. However, the hospital wing is separate and apart from the living facility. There is a lovely roof top garden, a large cafeteria, on site hairdresser and pharmacy and it is close to both the "L" and to a Dominicks grocery store. The surrounding neighborhood is in the heart of Lincoln Park in the Depaul University area, so the neighborhood is pristine.

As rehab/long-term care facilities go, this is a good one. The physical and occupational/speech therpists are excellent, and the lobby and common areas are pleasant. There are several places where patients can sit outside on patios or balconies, and a large room in which to congregate on each (or at least most) floors. The food is okay. The nursing staff ranges from excellent to adequate. As with so many such facilities, it can be difficult to understand some of the patient care staff whose English is highly accented, but this has created no major problems. The supervisory and front desk staff are very responsive; and no problem has gone unaddressed.
Parking is ample, and there is an adjacent residential facility with excellent physician offices.
