My mother is at The Pearl of Elk Grove right now for rehab. It is a very clean place. But like every place else, they are short-staffed. They have a lot of contract workers coming in. They're spread out. For the most part, I try to take care of my own mom. The nursing staff and everyone seem to be pretty nice. They have a housekeeper that comes in and cleans the place. She gets three meals a day. I tasted my mom's food and it was tasty. She's on a special diet, but it has a flavor to it. They're overworked. It's like 14 patients to one caregiver. There was one instance when the caregiver came in to take care of my mom, and she was doing a really good job with my mom. And at the same time, she's been called for two other patients that needed her. So, that's pretty much the environment there. They have a salon, an exercise room, and a recreational area where they're doing activities throughout the day. They have outings, too. I think they're going bowling tonight for those who can go. The administration has to do better by making sure that there are enough workers to take care of everybody.

My mother is in ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation (Elk Grove Village). It's been a great experience. They're very courteous, very concerned, and attentive. When we get there, they introduce themselves and they let us know who the staff member is attending her that day. They're giving regular phone calls about her daily routine or any changes. It's clean and fresh. I'm very pleased with it. She's been there for about two-and-a-half months now. They're very concerned about the needs of the family and the needs of the patients. She likes the food and I've tasted it myself and it's good. They have activities like arts and crafts, needlepoint, puzzles, and writing. They have one-on-one and group time with them if needed. It's very clean and there are no smells.

My mother has only been in ManorCare Health Services-Elk Grove Village for a couple of weeks now. Promedica bought them out. It's convenient to my home and close to family members. I think she's getting reasonably good care there. The staff is the same everywhere, that you don't get called back when you call them, but as far as them medically helping her, I think they're OK. Communication is not good. She thinks the food is good, but I've never had their food. The surrounding is very nice, clean and well kept. I know that they have an exercise class, word search, puzzles, and that type of thing, but she hasn't gone to anything yet. It's rehab and long-term care.

Spartan room furniture, but functional and co comfortable. The therapists OT/PT were excellent. Focus was on quality of exercises not quantity of exercises. They add a new challenge each session, however they repeat the challenges they gave you previously with a twist to get you motivated. You meet the decisionmaker of each functional area of the facility. Then you see them in the halls ,rooms and Nurses Stations. They are not distant ghosts or voicemail recordings. I voiced a complaint about cold food to one of the decision makers. The next morning I went to the station and found that person coaching the staff about cold food. The staff was capable. They are challenged with the number of patients they care for and the influx of new admissions. I don't know how you can change that observation. The activity people were very pleasant and always willing to engage.

My brother is there for long term care. He’s not in the fancy section so his care is awful. The aides leave him in bed all day, he gets no personal care-brushing teeth, getting washed up, and he is unable to feed himself and they won’t feed him. They are concerned about him losing 40lbs but won’t feed him. We talked to Martin and numerous social workers there but they do nothing. The nurses and aids will always say they’ll be right back if something is required of them and come back when they feel like it. My brother sits in the same clothes for 3 days at a time. The aides are the worst! Don’t send your loved one there!!!

If I could give zero stars I would. I found the nurses, especially at night, not helpful and seemed they couldn't be bothered. My father needed help, rang the buzzer and waited several minutes because he was having a hard time breathing. No one came. He got up and fell in the doorway - no help until someone found him laying there. He had a cut on his head and when I got the phone call at 3:00 am, I said I wanted him taken to the ER - when my dad arrived at the ER he was in the middle of having a heart attack. Needless to say, my father was not sent back there for rehab.

Physical therapy, especially with Casey, was great. He worked w/ my dad as a friend and had great listening skills. As for the nursing & cleanliness?? Err. If a pull cord in the bathroom is brown, you know you'll pick up some creeping crud at some point. Dad picked up atypical pneumonia there, which the hospital couldn't get under control for over a month. 2 mo have passed, tracheotomy, & feeding tube placed, due to a bacteria he picked up while there. Now, trying to figure out a safer place for him to go.

I am in rehab at ManorCare. This is the third time I've come here, and I'm very happy with the staff but not so happy with the doctor assigned to me. The physical rehab and the occupational rehab are very good. They have a computer room and books. You're showered twice a week. I like the staff. They answer you in a reasonable amount of time, get what you need or want, and usually it's very good. I really like this place. They're very caring people.

I was in this facility for rehab after a total knee replacement. The staff was wonderful, if you wanted anything, all you had to do was ask. My room was a single but kept very neat and clean. My rehab staff was good but I would have liked to have more. I hope to have my other knee replaced next year and plan on going to this facility again.

I liked this facility the only down side was the facility was very restrictive on where the residents could and could not go. There was certain times they were allowed outside or in the shared areas. Having a very opinionated and independent grandmother this facility was definitely not an option for my grandmother. The staff was very nice and the facility was clean. The meals were taken in a shared dining room with other guests which gave them time to socialize and not be stuck in their rooms. The director seemed very unacknowledged when we toured. He didn't seem very friendly or welcoming. I also didn't like that the receptionist wasn't their at night. If someone tried to leave it may go unnoticed until the alarm sounded. I know an elderly person can't go very far fast but it still bothered me. That if she really wanted to leave she had an opporunity.

My grandmother has stayed at this facility on multiple occasions. Her first stay was when she had her hip replacement. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The center is fairly large with multiple wings and appears to have various areas targeted for people with various types of special care. From what I have seen the facility is extremely clean. My grandmother doesn't speak any English but she was still comfortable during her stay there. She said the nurses would check on her quite often and she didn't feel neglected. I have toured the facility mostly because of my curiosity but the physical therapy rehab center was quite large and had multiple types of equipment. My grandma has needed knee and hip replacement so she has been in the facility because we have not had full time care givers at our home to watch for her. There are ample amounts of windows to allow adequate natural lighting into the facility and individual rooms. Each bedside had its individual televisions and lighting which also makes it easy for residents who have mobility issues.

Though Manorcare is a corporate chain, there is a nice home-like feel in this facility. The short term rehab program is also well regarded and staffed well from a therapy perspective. It is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood. There are a couple of smaller outdoor areas that families use to socialize that are pleasant and bright. There are also several common areas which are not huge but work for most visits. The rooms are average sized and the majority are shared. Space for furniture, personal items or storage is typcial of most facilities, meaning it is limited. The food is prepared on-site and above average in appearance and quality. Many staff here have longer than average tenure and the result is investment in their jobs and kind and compassionate care for residents.
