My father-in-law seems to be doing pretty well at Rock Run Place Memory Care. He's been there for 3 weeks now. I like that it's a memory care and I feel that it's got a very dedicated nursing staff. My father-in-law is 94 years old and suffers from advanced stages of Alzheimer's so his wife couldn't take care of him. She's a 94-year-old woman too and could not take care of him anymore that's why the need came around. We feel fortunate that we found Rocky Run. I think the rooms are very good and the facilities themselves are excellent. They have a lot of amenities there, although that didn't go into our decision-making. They have a recreation room for people, a billiards table, and they have some other things which my father-in-law was not going to use. It's all relative to price and that's one thing that you're going to run into. Your decision has to be whether you are getting care for the money or not and we felt Rock Run did. The staff is also top-notch. What we got into after he came in was, the nursing staff wanted to poke and prod him with medical tests that Medicare wasn't going to pay for. I just felt it was running up the costs. We ran across this with my mother when my own father, several years ago, was the same thing. She was paying for physical and occupational therapy and after a while, my mom said, "What is the point?" Same with my father-in-law, at 94 years old in an advanced stage of Alzheimer's, what is the point of running physical therapy and occupational therapy? We were getting pressured, or I should say, my 94-year-old mother-in-law and I were getting pressured a lot to spend more money than we didn't feel necessary. It's different if he would have been in his 70s and it was just memory care where he was forgetting things, but could still at least talk and do some things. This is what we were doing when he was 70 but now we got him in the facility at an advanced age and in an advanced state of Alzheimer's. I think they didn't need to push it.

Rock Run Place Memory Care looked nice and clean. The only thing was that the room looked a little smaller than some of the other shared rooms that I saw. They got a dining hall where the different activity centers were, then they had some sensory stations that were set up. The place seemed very safe. Everything was fully secured and the doors were locked. The director was very great. He was very knowledgeable, very straightforward with what they offered and what they could offer my dad, and very upfront about the pricing and amenities. They offer multiple food options every day. If the residents didn't like the main items, they had at least two other options that they could choose from. So, I thought that was really nice.

My mother is doing pretty good at Rock Run Place Memory Care. It was pretty cheap for what they could provide for my mom, price wise. It's a good value. The memory care is a separate building from assisted living, and they're right across from each other. The staff is very kind and very accommodating. If I have questions, they answer to the best of their abilities. They're very nice. I like them. They have a lot of activities every day. They have bingo that my mom likes to do. They have crafts and stuff to keep them busy and occupied. They can just sit in their room all day if they want, but they're encouraged to join in the activities. She likes the food. The facility looks clean and nice. The room my mom has is a double, and she has a roommate. The cleaning staff comes by, so they keep it clean. They do her laundry and wash her sheets. They take care of all of that. Mom has some dietary needs, and they can't always accommodate it. She's only been there for about a month now. She seems to be doing fine, but I worry about their ability to take care of those dietary needs. They cook all the food, but they cook it for everybody. They can't just cook for one person. Because she's in the memory care unit, obviously not everyone's in their right mind. Sometimes people will see things and just take them. My mom has a recliner chair and someone stole the remote from that. I tried to label all of her stuff, but I didn't realize I needed to label the remote.

My mother is happy at Rock Run Place. She is in memory care. It's actually very clean and very nice. They have about thirty-eight apartments or studio-sized rooms for memory care individuals. The other side is for just senior care for people without any memory problems. They are good at what they do. They're very caring and professional. It's well kept and clean. They have activities there that the residents can get involved in, like crafts, and they watch movies. They can even meet with each other in a common area. They don't restrict the residents much other than keeping them safe. She eats the food, so it can't be too bad. I'm sure that they cook with the residents' needs in mind. She's not complaining about being hungry or anything, so she's happy. I really haven't looked at the menu, but no one complains about the food, so it must be good enough for them to be happy. They try to keep their needs fulfilled as far as what they need to do to keep themselves busy.

My mother is in Rock Run Place. They're a small community, their staff is very caring, and they've been taking good care of everyone throughout this COVID stuff. They keep them pretty busy, there are lots of activities going on, and they deal with the families very well. It's an older building, it's very clean, and it does not smell.

Rock Run Place is where my dad is at, and it's absolutely amazing. It's the only community of all the ones we had looked at that were not worried about selling us the room, but were more concerned about meeting ours and my dad's needs first. Once that had been determined, we moved forward with looking for a room and talking about the price. Overall it's been good, although there's some growing pains. He has had a couple of issues where he has some aggression, but we're trying to determine why that is. Regardless, the people there have been very helpful and overall it's been great. His room is big enough yet small enough and we made it familiar for him by putting up his pictures and bringing in his bed to make it his own. He's eating well, and he said the food is good. When I was there the other day it looked like they were having chicken rice soup, which looked and smelled pretty good. They get their main meal for the day for each meal, like the other day they were having cobb salad, but if you don't like that you can get a burger or something. They always have other things on the menu. The staff treats us like family. The admittance lady called me up to say that she wasn't going to be at my mother-in-law's admittance. We just bonded well with her, and she was working on Christmas day setting up the evaluation for my dad. And that says a lot. There's just one staff member that we've had issues with and we're trying to work that out right now. Other than that, everyone's been great. The place is clean with no smells.

Rock Run Place is very clean, organized, and the most reasonable one we found. The rooms are very clean, well kept, and organized. My mother is in the dementia care unit. The dining area is very clean, and she seems to like the food. They have Bingo night, family night, charades, and Deal or No Deal. They have a lot of activities. They have a tour bus, and they took them out for Christmas carol and to see the Christmas lights. The staff is great, and the nurses talk to us and keep us posted of anything mom may need. Her laundry is always done. We haven't had any problems. It has a clean smell. Churches come in, they do bible studies with the residents, and they have a lot of outside people come in that do a lot of things. The activities director does a fine job. She's getting the care that she needs.

DON'T DO IT!!!!! Short Staff, made a complaint to Illinois Department of Health due to concerns regarding my family member and all of a sudden, we were given a 30-day notice that they would need to be moved elsewhere. They don't own up to mistakes, short staffed, especially on nights and weekends. A lot of apologizes but no solutions. Its a shame. According to the findings I received back from IDPH, all of my concerns were founded! After they had a visit from the IDPH, they were extremely helpful in getting them moved, and of course couldn't be nicer. But according to corporate this had nothing to do with my complaint.

I give the place NO stars. Staff turnover is extremely high, Loyalton building stinks literally. Needs work very badly.
