We chose Riverside for my mother because it is the only place that was built and designed by a hospital, so they have the full continuum of care. They have a very different approach to their care. For one, the social worker is right on the premises; she is in the memory care unit. They have an internist, a neurologist, and an optometrist that comes in once a week, and they will soon have dental. As your loved one declines, they also have a nursing home. So if she needs to, she can be moved to the skilled nursing. If she becomes aggressive, they also have a senior behavior health unit right at the hospital. Their price is competitive or cheaper than a lot of the facilities that I went to, and their place is absolutely gorgeous. I happened to mention that my mother likes grits with her meals, and they didn’t even know what grits were, but the next time I went there, that day they had went out and bought a box of grits. So that is the kind of place that they are. They listen to everything that you say about what your mom wants or likes. They are very caring and highly skilled, and they are all trained in memory care. They go beyond just the regular custodial taking care of them because they really know what people like.

I visited Riverside Senior Living. The woman that was in charge of showing the rooms showed me around and showed me one of the rooms. The room was like a studio apartment. There was a living area and it was separated from the bedroom area with a little door that you could go through. There was a bathroom and a small kitchen area. I went around their dining area. They served four meals a day. I would recommend them.

Riverside Senior Life at Bourbonnais is a very nice facility, but it's not going to work for me because they don’t accept Medicaid; it’s all private pay. It’s a new facility and the rooms were very nice. They have a nice, gourmet restaurant in there. They made a very good impression on me during my first visit.
