They are great at making sure residents have enough sleep, and have good hygiene. On the nights she gets a shower, she is done by 6:30 pm. so she can go to bed. Sometime's they let her sleep in till 9:00 am. They were so thoughtful, when they lost her hearing aids, the second time. She still had a set, no one would notice, they didn't match. And they are so respectful of pride of ownership. They let mom pay for the replacements. Most of the time, when I come to visit, they promptly answer her request call with in 15 to 20 minutes.

Health Center has some 5 star RN's and some that need a lot of education and training. Patients in the Health Center definitely need an advocate to assure the family everything is being done correctly.

My mother currently lives in the BH Health Care Center. She is basically at the mercy of others for her mobility and her general well-being. When she became ill, she was put into isolation and was not taken care of properly. She became so dehydrated that she ended up in the hospital with a raging urinary tract infection and anemia in addition to the dehydration. No one on the CNA team reported her lack of urination or hydration until her condition became alarming. After 5 days in the hospital, she is now in the medicare wing where she is given very good care. The therapies available through Medicare are outstanding and she is beginning to perk up a bit again. We have learned our lesson. No one watches out for a loved one like family. Check on your loved one often.

I actually volunteered at the dementia care facilities four years ago. The staff I worked with were incredibly kind to the residents, and of course, very helpful as well. It took me a while to "get used" to the environment, but I soon warmed up to the residents, nursing room "smell" and overall surroundings. While the extent of the dementia varied with each resident, I was able to communicate well with each of them. Many of them were very kind, and also seemed very happy or content living in Beacon Hill. I enjoyed coming to volunteer every day. After, I was moved to other areas of the home. While working in the dining hall for residents, I noticed that many of the residents were still very lively and communicative. They entertained each other in a way that was reminiscent of my high school or college days. To be honest, all the images I painted in my mind of what it would be like to live in a home were completely gone by my first day working at Beacon Hill. It's a wonderful place to live, visit, and volunteer.

My father has lived here for a year, his initial adjustment was difficult and the staff were excellent/supportive in helping me/him through this process and transitioning him to less intensive services when the time was right. He currently is living in an apartment with AIL support. They offer a myriad of social activities, both internally and out in the community, which he loves. They have always been responsive to my questions and concerns. The other residents are friendly too and his needs are met in a timely fashion
