My brother is at the Victory Centre of Galewood. It is geared more to people that can take care of themselves. I found the staff, the CNAs, and everyone to be very conscientious and nice. Occasionally, I am disappointed though because some of the staff in the wellness department call even if they know that I work during the day. So, I'll call them back immediately, but that individual was not available anymore and you don't get a callback. You have to continue to call them or to go over their head, but that's only to some of the representatives in the wellness department, not all of them. They care about their residents and my brother. His health has deteriorated somewhat and they made an exception and got him into rehab. He's had several falls, but they didn't immediately say, "One more fall and you're out." So, they do try to work with him first. Some of them are exceptional and he seems to like the food too. With COVID, I think a lot of stuff has been cut down. They have movies, a gym, and a lot more. They don't have a good parking facility for family members. It's very difficult to park in that area and I believe the garage that they have is meant for some of the residents. The rooms are large enough. There is a small kitchenette, a microwave, and a normal size fridge. The bathroom is extremely wide. It's flexible for a person with a disability, a wheelchair, or walker. They're pretty good. However, I think it's a good neighborhood. The majority of it is residential. There are parks nearby and a community center. Then on the other side, it's more business-like, there are restaurants and the like, so the residents that are more mobile can go out and get food. There is a barbershop around the corner as well. It's a pretty good community. I feel that my brother's safe.

My brother will be moving into Victory Centre of Galewood. It's a diverse community and we're looking for a place where my brother can speak languages, Spanish and English. There are a lot of people who speak both languages. Depending on how he feels, he might be able to speak any language he chooses if he knows who he's speaking to. So, Spanish is his primary language, but he's been in the States more time than the time he was in Puerto Rico. So, he's able to use both languages there. It's very open. Once you come in, it's like you come into a large place, but it's not that large. It looks like a place where there is a lot to do and there's space, and things are not crowded. It has a garden on the second floor, which is beautiful. It is very clean. They have a beauty salon. They have a weight room, a place to do exercises, and a library. They have a lot of activities, and they're pretty busy in terms of the activities that they do with people that live there.

My 94 year old mom went to live there. Was there less than two months. Got pneumonia. Now is in hospice. She lost her room at Victory while she was in the hospital. No one told me until about a week before the month was up while she was still in the hospital. I had to hustle to move her stuff out or I would be responsible for the next months high rent. There should have been better communication on the part of Victory Centre. The staff appears disorganized. The nurse that interviewed my mother for admittance, which is done after the lease is signed, didn't know what the medical terminology was for my moms meds. Which she freely admitted. Everyone is friendly e ough. But the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Example, when they called the ambulance to take my mom to the hospital - which turned out to be pneumonia - the Face Sheet that had my moms info did not list her medications. Just pure carelessness on Victory Centres nursing staff. I don't recommend this place for elderly seniors. After talking with residents there they seem to think the place is ok but not great. If I could do it over again, I would not have my mother live there, period.

I have seen the Victory Centre of Galewood. I like it the way it looked. The price was right. It was very clean and very accessible, but it would not be good for my mom because she needs memory care, and they did not provide memory care. The staff was nice. They told me everything I need to know. They gave me all the paperwork to look at the brochures. They offered how much everything cost. I enjoyed it. I would like the place for myself later on. Everything was clean. It felt new because the building is only 10 years old, so it’s very nice.

I personally thought that Victory Centre of Galewood was more geared toward Hispanics, but I was looking for more of an African-American community. It seemed more laid-back and much more quiet for people who are not as active. The quality of the staff was great. They were more of a reserved and quieter community. I felt there was a not well-developed therapy and medical team.

We visited Victory Centre, and I liked everything about it. It was really nice, clean, and well put together. The personnel were very assistive. Overall, it was a 5-star for me. We didn't talk to too many residents. We just interacted with the staff and saw how they interacted with the different residents. It was very nice. Everybody was really pleasant. We had a tour of the entire building. The rooms were a little small for my mother's liking only for the fact that she had a king size bed and she wanted to keep her bedroom set. She liked a place that was a little bit more spacious. The activities were very well put together, and she liked interacting with other people. They had bingo, bowling, movies, exercises for people, Wii games, and all kinds of activities. They played different games, and they had a book club. The neighborhood was very nice.

This facility is located on the north west side of chicago. it serves a population of seniors who have been diagnoised with a variety of mentally, medically challenged issues. The grounds are well kept, and there are several activities that residents tend to participate and enjoy within the facility. There is a full medical, and clinical staff on hands to provide the care to the residents. The meals are prepared home style, and residents have their own apartments. The colors are warm and inviting, There is a sense of warmth and friendlness upon entering the facility. Common areas are the patio, workout room, and dinning area. I would give this facility a 5 out of 5 stars.
