My sister and I went to see Brookstone in Effingham. It was very clean and elegant. However, it had -- and this is not a negative thing -- more of an assisted living or nursing home feel to it. It was very clean, but one of the negatives is there is not a full kitchen. That's not something we're really interested in for my mom. She still enjoys cooking, and neither of my parents are the kind to go out and eat in the dining room. I think they did say they would bring food to them in their room if they wanted, but all they had was a microwave and a small refrigerator. Not that that's a negative, but it is marketed towards certain people, so if it's what you're looking for, then that's good. The staff who gave us the tour was great. She was very kind and answered all of our questions. It's just that it's in Effingham, and I don't know that my parents will want to be there. Also, it was pretty pricey. I cannot remember for sure, but I think you have to pay for the second person, and by the time we put the second person in there, it was going to be right around $4000 a month. It's steep but it's also assisted living, not independent living. The apartments were nice and clean, although not quite as large as the ones I've seen in another community. It's still handicap accessible, though. The layout of the community was nice and they had gyms on different wings. They had a facility for PT and for working out on each of their little wings.

It is lovely and very nice. The staff is wonderful. The grounds are very nice, and the place is right across the park in a lovely area. It's close to town and to everything that you might want, so you couldn't ask for anything nicer. They have a lovely library and do exercises, puzzles, and card games. They have a lot of things right there on site that you don’t have to leave the place to do.

I was invited for a tour. I thought it was very new and modern. I also thought that it was a very good facility. I like everything about it. Everything was good. They did have a couple of things that weren't as good as the other facility but I thought it was perfectly acceptable. Their rooms were about the same size to the other facility we visited; however, they were spacious for one person.
