I have no idea how this facility got a 5. They are terribly short handed. You have to go to the bathroom and you can wait for anyone to show up, the food is awful, the temperature in the facility is so hot, you perspire till you hair is wet.

My mom is at Wauconda Healthcare and Rehab. It is fine. The staff is great. The place is clean. They got through COVID with no deaths, which is good. They have a gymnasium. My mom likes the fact that she can go out there and work out if she wants to. You can also choose to eat food in the dining hall or have your food brought to you. Every night they have activities. They also have a salon.

The staff here is great! Knowledgable and super helpful. My mother has been using the therapy center and it has worked wonders for her. They educate her on each exercise they do and why they do it, they have great equipment, and a clean facility!

My mother in law was here for a few months. Every time I came here to see how she was doing she was very well taken care of by the staff. She was coming here and working with the Physical Therapy team. When she was with them they were doing a great job. They seems knowledgeable, and took great care of her. One thing I noticed was how clean the area looked as well. It was obviously well taken care of.

Wauconda Healthcare and Rehab is an excellent nursing home, and they are wonderful there. The staff is fantastic and very polite. They help you out with everything and my mother is very happy. The rooms are very nice and very clean. They wash down the beds once a week, maybe even more. They're very clean people. The grounds are beautiful. You can sit down on the deck and the patios, and they have flowers around. It's very nice there.

Wonderful place for rehab. Brought my Mom here after a bad experience in another facility. Staff was caring and attentive.
Dining Room is bright and cheerful and the food is good and hot and fresh. Rehab was very professional and included sessions on weekends. Lovely common area, hot chocolate in the evenings, lots of activities. So glad to find this place!

I went to Wauconda Healthcare. I felt that the facility was very old-looking and this may sound silly, but the TVs in there are teeny-tiny, and my dad sits in a bed or a chair from morning til night so having a good TV is important. The rooms were small, and I don't know why they call them semi-private because there was nothing private about them. What they have is a divider between the 2 beds. It's not what I see on the website. I think the place needs to be updated.

I had both of my parents at Wauconda Care. It was excellent all the way down with regards to their care, service, food, and communication.

We were at Wauconda Care; me, my husband, and my mom. My experience and my husbands’ were absolutely fantastic. My mother had trouble with pain medications as her doctor gave her too many pain medications. But the care that I received and my husband received were good. The people there were outstanding. It’s small but the people that worked there were so wonderful to me.

Dad received the therapy he was supposed to. We appreciate that. What we don't appreciate was that someone went into his room and tried to gain finanacial POA. WC didn't notify anyone for two days, reception did not make the person sign in, and when someone tried to talk to director about it, we were told they were in "meeting"- they were not. If WC had a notary, the thief would have been successful.

My 80 year old mother has been at Wauconda Care for 1 week and needs at least 1 more after back surgery. She has improved so much and has been encouraged every step of the way. I love the physical therapy program, the CNAs, the restrictive diet they put her on and everything else about her care. The center is very clean and there is always someone to talk to about her progress.mi highly recommend Wauconda care.

My mother-in-law was admitted to the Rehabilitation Unit at Wauconda Health Center after a stroke. When she had regained as much strength and range of motion as possible, she was transferred to the Assisted Living Area, eventually the Nursing Area, and lastly, to the specialized hospice unit in the facility. The rehab and assisted living areas were decorated in a way that was upbeat and modern without being artificially cheery or too edgy to be comfortable to the eldest residents. The large aviary is a birder's heaven, with nesting pairs of several species and plenty of room for them all. There were no unpleasant odors anywhere in the building, even around the birds. In fact, the staff sometimes baked cookies for the residents in a kitchen well-supervised and accessible to competent residents. When she moved to the nursing area, Mom remained happy and active, and her fears of being restricted rapidly vanished. She certainly made it to her favorite bookstore frequently and developed strong bonds with the Wauconda receptionist, another voracious reader who often traded books with her. Mom's mind stayed sharp because of the staff's willingness to speak to her respectfully on an adult level. When she moved to the Hospice Unit, the hospice nurses and chaplain were in nearly daily contact with us- we live several states away- and went out of their way to meet her emotional, physical and spiritual needs. They arranged for a volunteer to read to her when she could not hold a book, and for her preferred music to play through headphones as her hearing deteriorated. The medical and nursing staff remained receptive to our thoughts although we were only a telephone presence most of the time, even accepting our request that she be given a trial of anti-depressant medication. Moreover, they were willing to share their pleased surprise when her overall status improved on the anti-depressant. As she made her last transition, the hospice nurses stayed in contact with us several times a day and two were with her until she died, speaking to her, praying for this long-time deacon until her time here ended. There were even chaplains who came from outside the facility who took her outside as long as she could be wheeled outside comfortably. We are very grateful for the care Mom received at Wauconda, from the first day to the last.

This facility provides both long-term care and short term rehab primarily to the geriatric population. It is situated in a safe residential neighborhood outside the "˜downtown' region of Wauconda. It is accessible to major highways. There is a fair amount of outdoor space; enough that residents can be outside and relaxing on nice days. The building recently underwent extensive renovations which came out nicely. The décor is tasteful and warm and imparts a home-like feeling. Attention was given to common areas which while not extensive, provide a comfortable alternative to visiting in resident rooms. The facility is typically very neat and clean both in the common areas and the rooms. Room size is average to above average, with short-term rehab rooms being more spacious. Most rooms have good windows with at least some natural light. The food is average to above average with some meals that are reportedly extremely good. The staff, both for therapy and for long-term care, are down-to-earth and also seem to impart a "family" feeling to the care they provide. There typically is enough staff to meet resident needs, and care is appropriate and kind.
