My husband had therapy at Good Shepherd Health Center. He was there for 20 days. They were all friendly. The place was nice and the people there were nice. They took care of my husband. He just doesn't like to be there, that's why I removed him from the nursing home. He just wants to stay at home. It was clean, but they had a lot of patients. My husband is a loner type of person, that's why he doesn't like to be there. They had a lot of activities. They've got bingo and things like that. Sometimes, we would walk around the facility. He said he liked the food.

My mother did rehab at Good Shepherd Health Center. The service was mostly adequate, but we weren't very happy there. They lost her clothes and they left her without things to wear, no bra, didn't give her a jacket or sweater and left her with just a little piece of cloth that didn't even cover her shoulders. The staff was friendly when you talk to them, but there was no progress. I had to push for all progress in her care to get her well enough and to get her out of there. The dining area was clean. The rehab room was beautiful and very up-to-date. I suggest that they provide a chair in the room for the patients to sit down on besides the bed, redesign the room so that there's some privacy, watch out for the patients' basic needs like clothing and toileting, and better communication with the family.

This is a wonderful place. The staff really care about the residents living there, and they care about what the families are going through. There are all sorts of organized activities for the residents. Families are made to feel quite welcome when they visit their parent or spouse, etc. Families are also welcome to attend activities with their family member. I have visited my parent numerous times, randomly, on purpose, on different days of the week, at different times of the day, and evenings. Never have I witnessed anything to make me feel suspicious or uneasy in any way. If I have a concern about my parent's wellbeing, health, nutrition...anything, they listen and address the problem. If they have a concern about my parent, they call me right away. They hold care review meetings with family every month. It does not "smell like a nursing home". They decorate just beautifully for the holidays and seasons. The wallpaper, paint, furnishings, etc. in the lobbies, dining rooms, and residents' areas are also very lovely. It was incredibly difficult for me to leave my parent there at first. I would not trust just anyone with my parent, but I do wholeheartedly trust The Good Shepherd with my parent. The Good Shepherd has earned my trust one visit at a time.

The Good Shepard Nursing home had areas where I felt like it was more of a hospital feeling, and other area's felt more like a home. The area I was looking to place a family member seemed more like a hospital with no carpeting, which seemed a concern for slippers (seemed it would be easier to slip and fall). The commons area was nice; it had a fish tank and televisions which made it feel more homely, which was a good feeling. The staff seemed really nice and made me feel welcome and made sure all of my questions were answered. I did express some concern about the flooring, and the staff did inform me that they were going to be doing some remodeling and putting carpet in as well. With that information, I did go back for another visit, and the staff was very helpful and good at answering questions again (they even remembered who I was). They put carpet in, so the concern of falling was not an issue anymore, and they did paint the walls so they were no longer white and no longer felt like a hospital. The remodel tied the whole building together and made it feel more like a home, and I am now thinking about putting my grandparents there because staff proved to be interested and seemed very caring in what now feels like a nice, home-like environment.
