Vintage Hills is a very nice place. They were very accommodating. It was very clean and modern. They had a very good food. My father was there for 8 months. We had to move him out of the facility because he exceeded their level of care. He had had some illnesses and some surgeries and they just no longer able to provide the care that he needed. Again, it's an assisted living facility and they just couldn't provide all the care. He was needing more nursing care than what they can provide. The staff is very good, very nice, and very knowledgeable. Of all the hospitals and places he has been, it's had the best food. His room was very clean, very spacious and had a very adequate space for his needs. They had activities that they offer daily and they put out a monthly calendar that showed the activities for every day so that the residents can plan in advanced what days they wanted to attend and what activities. The facility was very nice and very modern. It doesn't look like a senior living.

We found a community for my father. It is called Vintage Hills of Indianola. I just thought it was great. My dad is going to be there in the fall. The staff was absolutely friendly. They were really kind. My dad said he wouldn't move in without his dog, and at Vintage Hills, they were really welcoming in that regard. That was what really made the decision. Other places said they were OK with the dog, but they really weren't as enthusiastic. Also, my dad would have a choice about whether he wants to participate or not in their activities. They have a dining area, and I saw their menu. In their dining area, residents are free to sit anywhere they want. Also, if you want to have all the family eat together, your family can come and they will have a private dining area for you.

I wish that instead of making a lot of promises that they couldn't keep, the people at vintage hills would have been honest about their ability to handle the later stages of dementia. We were given a false sense that the staff in memory care was highly trained and just amazing with the dementia patients. The reality fell far short in most cases. There were a couple of the staff members who were caring and patient, and able to calm my poor rattled mother as she Struggled to cope with the new experience of people helping her with her most private needs, but generally they were well meaning, but unfortunately not well trained, and ultimately unable to deal with a difficult situation. Since moving a person with dementia is possibly the most devastating experience imaginable for them, this became a very sad situation. We were given 30 days to relocate my mom, after only 4 months of residency. Remember just prior to moving her in there, see was evaluated by their nurse, and pronounced "A good fit" for the facility. They assured us they could care for her through the coming stages, and follow her through to the end of her life. I wish I had been given a more honest evaluation of their capabilities, it would have saved a good deal of heartache. Be forewarned.
