My father is living in Wesley Acres. What we liked about it was they have three levels of care in the assisted living area. They kind of base it on what your needs are. You have to pay for a commitment of two years. Once my dad runs out of money, they don't make them move someplace else. They have ways to keep him where he's at. I like the idea that he doesn't have to move again, unless he's moving into a nursing home setting or memory care; that is all offered right there. The unit that he is in doesn't have a dishwasher, but it has a full stove, a full refrigerator, and a microwave. They have different things all the time. They have a pool and a gym area. They have activities every week. This week for the ladies, they're doing a sip and paint. They have different things throughout the week. They give them a sheet in their rooms, and they also have it posted in elevators and different places. They have activities all throughout the day. They also offer in-home therapy. He had an order for therapy, so they're able to do that therapy right there onsite. On Friday, they had a tailgate party for the Iowa State game (which is a big thing here in Iowa). They were able to go down to this general area, have tailgate food, and just kind of hang out. I thought that was kind of cool. The maintenance guy actually took him down because he was working in his room. The value for the money is good.

Wesley Acres was very nice, very clean, organized, and very friendly. I liked everything about it in general. They had activities and tours.

Wesley Acres was clean but after they visited with my husband, they didn't figure that he would fit into their facility and so that one didn't work out. I was happy with the facility. I liked the atmosphere, the cleanliness of it. The people that were helping me were very nice and helpful.

I went to this facility because two friends (a married couple) of my grandmother's wanted to make some food for my grandmother as a gift, as my grandmother had just gotten home from a hospital stay after having open-heart surgery. The facility was unfamiliar to me, and when I arrived, I wasn't quite sure where to go. There was a staff member outside keeping a few of the residents company, and the staff member was very helpful in telling me where to go. As soon as I got inside, I noticed the facility was very clean and had a welcoming atmosphere and the residents seemed quite at home. After I met up with my grandmother's friends, I witnessed their interaction with the staff members and they all seemed very friendly and helpful. Another staff member helped me carry the food to my car and helped me with directions to get back to my grandmother's (I was not familiar with the area and my GPS was malfunctioning). In all it was a very good experience-- a very nice facility with great staff members.

All of the employees at Wesley Acres seem to genuinely care about the residents. There are many activities for the residents to do both on and off site, so they are not just sitting around bored all the time. The facility management makes an effort to keep everything up to date, and they have recently been working on a large construction project to modernize the entire place, especially the Alzheimer's wing. The food seems to be good, public and private areas are kept clean, and the nurses are available 24/7 to deal with any problems that may arise. Family members of residents are also able to call nurses as frequently as they like, with any concerns or advise they may have. Since the only assisted living community I have any experience with is this one, I can't really compare it to others in the area, but I can't really imagine how anything could be much better.

Wesley Acres provides different levels of care, from independent apartments for seniors, to assisted living, rehabilitation, or long term health care. The assisted living lets seniors decide how much help they personally need, and staff are there to help them with everything from housekeeping to bathing. There is a great cafe in the facility, and there is an option to be on a meal plan, where you can either go to the cafe or have meals served to your room. The food is great (especially the salads!) and very reasonably priced. The staff at Wesley Acres are great, and plan outings from nights out to see musicals to week-long trips across Europe. There are always plenty of activites at Wesley Acres, from lectures, to exercise programs, movies, and more. My grandma has been living there for seven years now, and plans to spend the rest of her life there. There is a hospital just across the street, and she can change how much care she wants provided from the staff. There is a nice community feel to Wesley Acres, and the residents enjoy the opportunities to visit with their friends just down the hall. It is also a nice place to visit for friends and family of residents, whether to meet up in the cafe for a nice lunch or in the big common room right inside the entrance.

Placed my Mom here, the staff conducted a raid on her self-living apt, claiming she smoked, for which she had inconsistent treatment, then, even tho they found nothing, they still told me to spend thousands for full time private nurse or move her to a locked ward, because CORPORATE SAID. Yes, they hurt and confused my Mom when she was 90+ with these actions! I took her out and she was dead three months latter. If you think "corporate said" is the caring you want for your parent, then by all means give them your loved one and a lot of money.
