I've toured MorningStar at Jordan Creek. It was really nice, it's just really high-priced. My mom really liked it and she'd love to be there, but it was about $1,000 more than all the rest of them. Their rooms seemed big, they had full-size refrigerators in all of them, and they were really nice. They had rooms where you could video watch church services or sporting events. There was an exercise room, there was a meeting area downstairs that you could rent out for family and stuff if you wanted to have dinner. The staff was really great. They had a library, a big kitchen, and elevators, and the rooms were a good size. The facility itself is in good shape being only five or six years old. Up on the corner is a restaurant, there's a hotel right there, and a strip mall.
If I could get my mother to move, MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek is the place where I would move her. It was very welcoming. The staff was very knowledgeable and the services that they provided for assisted living were exactly what I felt she needed. All the residents seemed to be happy, too.
My sister and I thought they had beautiful rooms. The one-bedroom appeared to be very adequate. The only downside was that they have a bar seating for the kitchen, and older folks, in my opinion, would have a harder time crawling up on a stool to sit and enjoy that space, but they were a very nice-sized room. They have the accommodation of having the washer and dryer in their own room or somebody to do the laundry for them as well as cleaning services once a week.
When mom visited, she was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get around. She said the meals were wonderful. She was very surprised at the high quality of the meals. They were very tasty, which is important to her, and if there's something that she has enjoyed eating in the past, she would just let them know and they'll prepare it for the group during one of the meals.
They do craft events regularly, religious services, and provide transportation to doctor's appointments, to local shopping areas or if anyone in the group wants to go someplace. They are just very accommodating. The lady who gave the tour knew what she was talking about. She didn't pressure me. It was very, very, very pleasant and she knew what an older person is looking for in a facility.
I like the MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek facility inside, but I didn't like that there's no landscaping. You look outside and you're either looking at the parking lot, or you're looking at two streets. They have a small square on the inside because it's kind of in a circle. Then in the middle they have a sitting area with some flowers. It's just not all that big.
People were playing with puzzles, and they had a big theater room. They have a nice big area for when you want to have your whole family in to eat. You have a separate room you can close off, which I like. They had a painting area and popcorn. It seemed like a nice, friendly, and happy place. It was my second choice, if my mom didn't like the one we chose.
My mother was at MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek. She went to assisted living. It's the same as where she will be going; the only difference is they did not have a skilled unit. The staff was caring and very attentive. They had a chef there that made meals for the people. Her room was very up-to-date, very nice, and very elderly- friendly. They had activities, but she was not well enough to participate. They had an exercise room, a theater, and a podiatrist that took care of toenails. They had good amenities.
I was moving into MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek, that's where I would go, but it wasn't for me. The people were terrific, the facility was beautiful, everything was just top notch. It was the weekend, but Kim came in specially to show us the place, and I know they went above and beyond to try to accommodate us. They gave us a basket of goodies, muffins I think they were.
My mom has chosen MorningStar. It is the one she feels most comfortable in. It is bright, shiny, and new. She likes it. They have a theater room for movies. They also do sitting exercises and have Sunday worship services. It is gorgeous and cool. They have a computer area, an area where they can play Scrabble, and a huge area with eight or 10 game tables that have different game settings and puzzles. They have Wii bowling, putting area, massage area, beauty shop, and work out center. It is all in one level in one big area. The place is very nice. The staff is incredible. We met two or three people, and they're excellent. However, this place is expensive.
