About This Community

If you’re worried about a senior parent, you’ll find relief at Manor Lake Athens. Care at Manor Lake Athens is more than just meals and medications. It includes serving the Body, Mind and Spirit of a senior – because care is physical, emotional, and transcendent.

It begins with an Individualized Care Plan based on need, and continues with a building that’s comfortable and easy for a senior to learn and navigate. The care staff is directed by an LPN who makes sure your loved one receives appropriate and gentle care in a fun environment. We hope you’re excited about having a senior care community in Athens focused on the health and well-being of your loved one.

Assisted Living

Assisted Living is perfect for seniors who are mostly independent, yet need help managing medications and meals. But there’s much more to Assisted Living than that.

At Manor Lake Athens, housekeeping, laundry, and activities are services seniors love. Hot and delicious meals are served three times a day and snacks are available all day.

Caregivers are on duty 24-hours a day, plus the LPN is full-time. Our primary tasks are to carefully manage medications, provide Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) when needed, and to become trusted friends of your loved one and your family.

Memory Care

Perhaps the hardest reality of aging for some seniors and their families is memory loss. There is no training to prepare you to care for a person with cognitive challenges, and there comes a time when love isn’t enough. Manor Lake Athens is here for you when it’s that time.

Whether brought on by Dementia or Alzheimer’s, these residents require the special care, understanding and skills of Manor Lake caregivers. They are sensitive to a senior’s moods and know how to interact with and redirect an agitated resident.

Just as in Assisted Living, we provide medication management, housekeeping, laundry, and meals. In addition, there are other measures we take for keeping residents safe and calm. To begin with, access to this area of the community is restricted exclusively to families, visitors, and staff. This prevents disruption and stops residents from wandering out into an unsafe world.

We have a beautiful garden area just for Memory Care residents, so sunshine and fresh air is a few steps away.

Every resident wears a call pendant, so at the push of a button, a familiar face is there to help. A pull chord call system is also in each room.

When you are searching for the right place for your loved one, our team is available to help guide you through this difficult process and answer any questions that may arise.

Manor Lake Athens is a comfortable and easy community for seniors to learn and navigate. Because we’re a single-story building, there are no elevators to wait on or confusing hallways. Just one simple level with centrally located common areas.

Inside, the community projects a warm lodge-like feel with a stunning central fireplace in the dining room. The building embraces a central courtyard filled with professionally tended gardens.

The exterior doors are secured at night allowing access to staff and families with their personal codes. Residents easily unlock their room doors with electronic (RFID) bracelets or fobs and an electronic record is kept of each person accessing the room.

We offer:

  • Individually controlled heating and air
  • Easy access hand-held shower with rails
  • Weekly housekeeping

Manor Lake is still on lockdown, but I was allowed to come in to help my mom get settled and drop things off for her. They have opened their dining room and she said she likes the food. She also sounds a lot better and a lot perkier. She used to have some wariness of where she is. She was really scared for a couple of days because she was disoriented, but she is transitioning well and I think a lot of that is because of the staff. They're really making an effort with her. The night staffers were great. She has been in diapers because she doesn't have enough strength to go to the bathroom. They would take her to the bathroom to let her try to begin regulating her bowel and bladder to go on her own and then they wiped her down. They got her in bed and tucked her in and she said, 'Oh okay, I'm all comfy now, I'm good and you can go.' The halls are wide and bright. If you're facing the assisted living wing on the left, all of the apartments have an external door to a courtyard with a seating area, benches, a fountain, and a fire pit. It is really nice because it gives them the feeling that they can go outside. They have a full-time activity director. It has only been open since July of this year. They're not fully staffed because they're not at capacity, which is nice. I viewed that as a plus because it means that they're going to make more of an effort to try to make sure that everything goes well. If things aren't going well, they can't take in more residents. This is owned by a local person and it's the only senior living community that he owns, so all of his eggs are in this basket and he is really invested in making it the best place that can be. They have a social activity around lunch and then they go back to their room. They have arts and crafts, some gardening, some gente exercises classes and things that promote health, balance and well-being. They also have two service dogs that come in on Tuesday and Thursday and visit with the residents who miss their pets, which I thought was really neat. I'm really happy with my mom being there. She has only been there for a week and she said she is happy, which I think is a testimony to the job that they're doing.

We chose Manor Lake Assisted Living because of its proximity to my house. It's also a very nice facility, and the personnel I spoke with are very nice, very comforting, and helpful. We discussed both assisted living and memory care. They're both in lockdowns because of COVID, but we were able to look at some assisted living apartments. It just seems to be very clean, nice, and very friendly. The halls are wide, it has a very clean look, and it is uncluttered. The staff is also very friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, and attentive.
