We went to the The Retreat at Buford and we like them, but we're going to go with another place. The tour was good. It was pretty quick, and it was just barebones. It was just showing the different rooms and areas where the residents gather. The staff that gave the tour was nice, but I just felt like it was a little rushed. I thought the rooms were OK. The room was a nice size. I thought that the facility showed some age, like the carpet needed to be pulled up and hard flooring pull down. It looked like some of it needs some paint refreshing and looked a little dingy. We only saw one resident sitting in a common area, so we didn't get to speak to any of the residents. They have arts and crafts at times. I think pretty much once a day that they just do a simple craft. Then they do a game with them during the day; it wasn't very creative. The hallways are dark. It was just not bright and inviting.

Ivy Springs Manor was our final choice for my grandfather after looking at several different communities. The food looked very appealing and fresh. They offer many services on-site including salon, foot care, dental care, PT, OT, and speech therapy, and they even have a geriatric physician’s office send staff on-site once a week! Every visit we met more staff and they were ALL friendly, professional and caring. The facilities were always clean, smelled fresh and inviting. The units offered a spacious bedroom and large bathroom with plenty of room to move around. All the units we saw had two windows which let in a lot of natural light. The residents all shared their love of the community as we walked around. We would highly recommend Ivy Springs Manor to anyone.

I have picked out Ivy Springs Manor for my mother and put a deposit down. I like the price, the people, and the activities. They have bingo socials and movies every evening. Plus, they go out to a restaurant and go shopping one day a week. My mother is going to be getting all three meals. The staff is very helpful, very attentive, and take time to learn everybody’s name and their wants and dislikes.

Ivy Springs Manor is definitely a true assisted living facility. The facility was beautiful and had high level of care. The rooms were small and definitely not apartments but studios, but they did have varying sizes. What stands out is the level of interactive care with the residents.

Ivy Springs Manor was fine. The dining area was a little bit more spacious. They had one upstairs and one downstairs, and both are very pleasant, nice, and roomy. The grounds are very pretty and nice, and there is a pleasant little walking area. The staff is very nice and informative. The residents all looked fine and enjoying themselves. They were working on different kinds of projects. They had some crafts going on and a movie schedule for that evening.

The hallways at Ivy Springs Manor were dark. The place was well-decorated, but it didn't seem sunny. It's on a steep hill, so you can't go out and walk around on the grounds. The dining area was okay. I got a tour from somebody who wasn't supposed to give me the tour, but the person did. The person pushed a little bit too hard in telling me how passionate everybody was, and that was kind of overkill. Show it, don't tell it. I wasn't impressed. The location is farther away from me, too.

The biggest thing why we chose Ivy Springs Manor for my dad is because it met my dad's needs. They help him get in and out of bed. They also assist him with everything in the bathroom including the toilet and the shower, and they help him get dressed. They also escort him three meals a day. They would help transportation to and from doctor's appointments. The rooms are efficient with a small kitchen. Overall, the place is friendly and new.

For $60,000/year, It would be nice to serve the residents brain healthy meals. For it to be a relatively new facility, I would think they would be knowledgeable or at least do the research to ensure the foods served to the residents contribute to brain health. If we decide to select Ivy Springs Manor, it looks like I will have to take my mother-in-law most of her meals and snacks. That's a lot of work when you are paying that kind of money out of pocket. It's a bummer because I was impressed with everything else with the facility and program.

The staff was friendly and helpful at Ivy Springs Manor. They were OK. The rooms and apartments were nice, big, fancy, and modern-looking. It looked like a relatively new facility. Everything was bright and pretty. I probably would not recommend them because of the price. It seemed expensive to me. It was all nice and new. It was very pretty. It looked like a hotel.

The rooms were OK at Ivy Springs Manor; however, I want my aunt to have one a little bit bigger than that. It looked like a hotel room with carpet. It had a bathroom, but there was no kitchen. Overall, I don't like the idea of assisted living being one room. That was my problem with it; it only had one room. Also they were a little more expensive than where I put her. Their dining area was big and nice. They did different activities for them, i.e., arts and crafts. The staff was very nice. They had a lot of people on staff.

The one that I liked the most, which was also the most expensive, was Ivy Springs Manor. The facility is only a year and a half old. They are a memory care center. The rooms are much larger. It smelled very nice. There were more people out of their rooms socializing and partaking in things. I thought that was wonderful. They have movie night every night. They make popcorn and have something to drink. They have refrigerators out and about, so you have 24-hour snacks. All the rooms have miniature refrigerators in them. They take you places. The one thing I thought was really interesting is they said that they'll go to Wal-Mart, but they'll also go to the dollar store. The dollar store, although you don't think it's much, when you start getting seniors with dementia, a Wal-Mart may be too big and too much. A dollar store is small, but it gives people an opportunity to get out of the house and wander around, so I thought it was impressive. I have their activities calendar. They have brain games, bingo, exercise, church, a hair salon, a nail salon, ice cream socials, arts and crafts, and guest singers. They'll even do a cocktail hour in the parlor and have non-alcoholic beer. They'll do bowling if you're up to bowling. I don't know if that means going somewhere or if it's a miniature version on the Wii.

Ivy Springs Manor is a beautiful facility. It's brand-new. They have laptops in each room, beautiful furnishings, it was gorgeous. They have activities, too.
