I liked The Phoenix at James Creek. It's newer, and the amenities that they have for the residents were just a lot more than what she's currently getting right now where she is. When you first walked in, you see people kind of ambling around and stuff like that versus just everything being quiet and everyone was in their rooms. That was not the case there. Once we did the evaluation on my cousin, and it was determined that she did not meet the requirements, I was not even given a phone call. I had to initiate the call to find out okay, if she coming or not, and what was the status? And then it was sort of like, she didn't qualify. So it was like real abrupt disconnect in communication. And I get it that she didn't qualify. But still, it felt like, you're so nice to me and everything when you're thinking we'd be residents, and then after it was determined that she didn't qualify, it was sort of, "Okay, next. " That's how I felt. There's a full-size refrigerator in the room, and they have a nice little courtyard.

My dad is at The Phoenix at James Creek. It is extremely well-kept. It is absolutely beautiful. It's clean and it smells clean. These are very important things that I did not find in other facilities. So it's very well-kept. The staff members are extremely friendly and very helpful. Everyone has a smile, which is unusual. Food is plain; nothing special. They offer activities because every time I go, I see the posting for the day, and they have something for everyone. It is really lovely. The activities are varied, and they are all day long. They have a salon, they have physical therapy, they have a movie theater, they have a bar, and they have a room so that if guests come, they can have dinner or lunch together. I would say they are exceptional. The staff are very attentive, the facility is beautiful, and my dad likes the food. Most of the other facilities have a very depressing atmosphere, and you don't see many of the residents and they're all in their room, but in this particular place, you always see people, always sitting together, and always chatting. There arealways people everywhere. It's alive. Because of that, it is so different from all the other facilities that we had gone to. If I were to sum it up, I would say that this facility is alive and that the residents care for each other and are happy.

My mom moved into The Phoenix at James Creek last week. It was beautiful. It looked like it was right out of HD TV. Right when we walked in, we had a very good feeling about the place. It was nice, bright and clean. I sat down with Brandy, the manager, and I went over the needs of my mom. She was very quick, very prompt, and addressed all the issues that my mom has. They were all too willing to negotiate with me a little bit on the price, especially with the level of care of service. I find that all these places offer a level of care of service and that adds to the price. We saw some other places that were just not good, like they were dark and dingy, and when you walked in, the residents just looked miserable, sitting on their wheelchair, and just staring off in space. When we went into The Phoenix of James Creek, the residents were happy and smiling, and it's just a whole different view. My mom said the food is good, and she likes it very much. She also likes the whole process on how they come by daily and drop off the menu. She's been there for a week and she feels like she's on a cruise ship, just without the cruise. People are always taking care of her, really catering to her and they're coming in and cleaning up after her. They are there for every need that she had and she feels like she's gonna be on a cruise for the rest of her days. Every time you walk in, they call you by your name. Whenever they see the residents, they'll say, "Hi Mr. and Mrs. So and So. How was your walk? How was your meal? How was your arts and crafts?" They were always engaging the residents and that's not something that I thought of a lot of these places. They actually came very much in line with their pricing, from a base monthly cost as well as the service offerings depending on her needs, like medication assistance, assistance with showering and getting dressed or whatnot. They were willing to negotiate on those things and it was very helpful. They have game night, arts and crafts, and a chef that comes in. They have their own hibachi table and they teach the residents how to cook food. They'll do like a hibachi show for them and that was pretty interesting. My mother is a big hair and nail salon person, too, and they have their onsite hair and nail salon. They definitely have a fair amount of activities to keep them entertained.

Don’t place your family member in this facility! Our parent was found confused and sick, and no one in this facility noticed. The residents have been “quarantined to their rooms only” and have been locked in the facility for a year, and not allowed family visits except for outside, or brief indoor, in front of staff visits. No visits at all for Christmas. Yet still, our Parent contracted COVID. It’s obvious if the residents can’t leave or have visitors, that the staff are bringing the virus to them. Our parent was found in soiled clothing and urine soaked pants, in a dirty apartment. They supposedly tested our parent for Covid, and it was negative. They tested her for a UTI and placed her on an antibiotic as well. When she was admitted to the hospital, she was negative for a UTI, and tested positive for Covid. Again, this place cares about their money... not about your family. Be very careful... appearances can be very deceiving.

Avoid this place. The management is ego driven and inept in my opinion. Nothing gets done right the first time. All the failures are blamed on the COVID crisis. This is a convenient excuse. Many rooms are vacant because of the poor management and other people told me they are planning to leave. I sure will not stay there. Food was awful too.
