My friend's grandmother recently had hip surgery and needs assistance walking around. She is a very bright woman who has been able to live on her own prior to this incident. Her very first night at this facility they put her in a diaper and insisted she soil herself instead of providing her with assistance to go to the restroom. It took 3 HOURS for the nursing staff to attend to her after she paged them. The grandmother requested soup with the help of a translator after being offered nutritionally empty canned green beans and cold fries; the facility denied her requests, so she went without dinner.
On admission, they roughly handled the grandmother not considering her very apparent cries of pain or the site of recent surgery.
Again, this was the FIRST NIGHT of her stay. I cannot say that there were amenities because this poor woman remained helpless in bed and unattended when help was requested. This previously very healthy woman was reduced to tears within hours of being at this place.
I can't imagine that any healthy elderly individual would thrive in this place very long let alone those with medical issues. Do not let your loved ones stay here because they will not last long.

My mother was at Kentwood Nursing Facility for rehab. Most of the nurses in person were nice, and her room was always neat and tidy. They took care of everything. However, she did not like the food at all. When she had specific things she didn't want, like milk or certain food that she had trouble with, they would just substitute with Ensure and she was very upset about that. The nurses were mostly nice, but one of the nurses was extremely rude. It had a few things that left a slight overall negative view of it, but it was clean, neat, and tidy. The outside was pretty and presentable, but the inside felt like a hospital with a carpet.

Getting to the toilet can be an issue here. A resident can be put to bed after supper and still be in bed the next morning at 11:00 in the same diaper so UTIs are a constant problem. If you ask a question at a care plan meeting, they say that they do not have her records so they can not answer that question. Some of the staff, the ones who have been there for years, are very attentive.

My grandmother was placed in the Kentwood nursing home when I was 20 years old. Upon arriving to the nursing home I was not met with the smell of urine or a place that was dirty. There were fresh flowers in the lobby. The receptionist was very nice and welcoming. She asked if there was any help that we needed and directed us to the correct individual that could help. We then spoke with the nursing director because we wanted to know how my grandmother had been doing. We were glad to hear that she was doing well, she was getting along with the staff and other residents. Since it was our first time visiting we were given a tour and it was very clean. It also was close to lunch time so we were able to see the food that the residents were served. The food smelled great and looked delicious. Once we visited my grandmother's room I could tell that she was happy and enjoying living there. One thing that I had a problem with was that the CNA's were standing around. The rest of staff was on task though.
