Soon as you enter the smell of human urine and feces hits you,I shared 1 bath with 6 people. The food is very poor and often served cold. The beds mostly are partially operative. There are no activities on a regular basis. The tv in dining room is broken and they haven’t had anyone look at it. I put a t.v. In my room when I left it still did not have cable box hooked up. The therapist were good and some nurses were pretty good. But overall I would never recommend this place to anyone.

My mother is at The Groves Center. She doesn't like it and I don't either. Mom is a retired nurse, and she doesn't like their service at all. They don't have good bedside manners, and she's very upset. The aides don't want to attend to her, so I know myself. I will be graduating with my MA, so I'll be a registered medical assistant nurse. I do not like it at all. There's a rehab there, it can be a residential stay for some people and some for long-term or short-term. It depends on what the person needs. Mom's been to rehab, and she's right now in the nursing home/rehab. It's been terrible except for the two nurses that I would say that I love.
The two charge nurses have good bedside manners. They're not always able to get to me and speak with me, but they keep me abreast as far as what's going on with my mom. My communication with the CNAs is terrible. They jerk her around, she said, and they don't want to attend to her. They don't want to do the things that she wants done, and they're simple things. When you go from physically being well to being sick where you can't walk, that's a lot. My mom was always an able-bodied person, and for the last two years of her life, her life changed. The facility is average. I wouldn't considerate it the cleanest place. I would've never chosen them, but this was an emergency situation. It was something that couldn't be helped at that time. My mother doesn't like to eat the food at all. I'll bring her food or she'll buy her meals out. The two nurses and the activity coordinator were a five.

I was discharged on Friday, with a colonoscopy bag that was leaking from the bottom part. This was known by the nurse. When I got home I only had the top half of the colonoscopy bag and it was still leaking. I had to have a friend go back to the center twice, once for pain medication and again for the other part of the colonoscopy bag. This all could have been avoided if there was more organization in my release.

While nursing homes; expensive or for low income they are all the same with regards to smells, staff, food, etc. ....referring to the people that write reviews on here! People that complain specifically about the Groves should go to 3 nursing homes within a 5 mile radius and rate those nursing homes also because they are all the same. And yet they are not all the same, but the Groves is maintained well for a nursing home. My grandmother has been at the Groves for a couple of years now and she is well cared for. They have plenty of staff, the bedding is clean and changed, floors, bathrooms are clean. I have a lot of family that visits her and we have never had complaints. I look around at the other patients and feel sad that they are there whether they are in bed 24 hrs or wheeling themselves around, they do look well as much as possible for their age and current illness.

The place is horrible and should be shut down. Walking in the door your greeted by the strong smell of piss. Don't expect the staff to greet you because their too busy gossiping. The best part about this place is walking your loved one out the door and not looking back

The Grove Center is an older facility so the rooms are pretty small. I like the location. It's an established, older building. The staff is nice and very caring. The meals always appear to be quite nice. My husband usually eats almost everything that's serve to him. It smells delicious, so I think that's okay. I always see them cleaning while I'm there.
One of the things that I like is that the patients are not confined to their rooms. There's a courtyard, so you can get outside. If they're mobile at all, they can roll them up and down the halls in their wheelchairs or even go out on a porch. I think that's an excellent thing, not to keep them too confined. There's a nice therapy room, too. They do have activities, but my husband doesn't happen to be participating in many of them. He's blind and has dementia. But they offer bingos, they've got musical groups come in sometimes and entertain, religious people come in and talk, and they schedule some games and movies.
