Holiday University Pines is a great facility. They're close to the medical centers there in Pensacola, and the guests can have access from outside their property if they live on the first floor and inside the property. They also take very good security precautions with people coming in and out. Their dining facility was beautiful and their menu was good. The only thing I didn't really like about that place is it's an older community and they're doing renovations right now. I can't wait to see how it all comes out and turns out, but they allow pets. They do karaoke, and they have places where you can go and watch movies. The lady that gave us the tour talked to us about their programs that offer assistance if people need it. It's tight-knit because it's a smaller facility. There's only a certain amount of people living there at a certain time. It's not too overwhelming for everybody that's there. That's what I liked about that place. They take care of their community. It's a smaller group, so there's more attention. The one thing that I would have a problem with is my dad's transportation because he would need to be transported to a dialysis center. That's one thing they don't have available right now. Their vehicle is being worked on, but they don't know how much longer it would be. They're kind of limited on taking their guest out to go shopping. They have a rental right now, but it's still limited. It's not like they can accommodate a group of people at a time. Other than that, the facility and the rooms that they showed me are great sizes. The one bedroom was very spacious and the bathroom was big enough for my dad and his chair to get in there. The studio had a kitchenette area, and you can put a room divider, so it was still big enough to kind of separate it into two little rooms and enjoy the space. Most of the residents there really enjoy that they have patios to go out and look at outside. They can sit on their patios and enjoy the fresh air or they can go into their own little courtyard that they have and walk around. I think once they're done doing all their renovations, that place is going to be probably top-notch because they deal with their guests accordingly. Right now, they're doing a good job. I just worry about the transportation.

I toured Holiday University Pines and it's very nice. It's one big apartment building. They serve three meals a day and have a very good cook. He fixed the meatloaf the day I was there, and it was wonderful. The staff is very nice. However, it's not a 24-hour venue, and at night, they don't lock the doors. But your personal door's locked. They were doing bocce ball when I was there. There was also a group there in the center. I'm not sure what they were doing, but they were all laughing and that's a good sign. The rooms are all very nice. Several of them had patios where you can go right out on the ground and the rest of them had balconies.

University Pines was very nice. I liked it. It looked like it was going to be a good fit for my father-in-law. We had a tasty meal and Freddie was the one who took us around. They had several games and puzzle areas. The rooms were very accommodating, clean, and had good space.

We toured University Pines. The tour was very good. They're very flexible on transportation, and they had a very lovely dining room. The dining room was very pretty. It was open and nicely furnished. The lady who assisted us was very nice and answered all of our questions. The rooms were average size. They had a mini kitchen, a mini-fridge, and a microwave. It depends on if a person wants a full kitchen or not. They have a small screened-in balcony. I think the kitchen could be updated.

University Pines is very pleasant, it's a nice place, and the tour was very good. The information was great. The staff gave us a nice folder, it's very fancy and beautiful, and had all the information in it. The location is good too. The facility was clean, everybody was very professional and just very, very nice. I liked it a lot. It's an independent living, it's not assisted living, so any kind of other care that my friend would need would be an additional cost. The rooms are not furnished. They're like apartments, just like apartment-living with meal service. I'm not sure but I guess they had a cleaning service once a week. You could use a car, people there are allowed to do that kind of thing. There's just not a lot of health care.

My friend is currently at University Pines. The place was fabulous and the whole interaction was great. I didn't speak to anybody who I didn't like or appreciate. Especially Mary at University Pines, she was very helpful, very informative, she had all the answers to every question I had. I talked to my friend and she's on the first floor but she wanted to be on the second floor once it's become available. She's very happy, she said it has a nice porch, and part of it is screened and a part is outside. It's a studio apartment, she has a small refrigerator and the minimal things that she needs. They also provide the meals so she doesn't need much. I know they were going to get her the veteran's discount, so I'd say that the value for the money is outstanding. She lived in my apartment and she kept falling. So I wanted her to get the proper care that she could call somebody, and I wanted her to have somebody else take care of her, clean the house, and look after her. And so I found all of that to be true there.

I did a tour of University Pines. I felt that the community was very welcoming. Its director, her name was Mary, she gave me a tour of the different apartments and gave me an overall tour of the entire facility. She gave me pricing and everything. It's a great place. It's a little pricey, but with all the amenities that you get with it, if you can afford it, it's worth it. That facility allows you to lock in your rental price; you have to pay an extra fee for that as long as you have that facility. There are amenities. They have three chef-prepared meals made from scratch daily, but you get the fruits and snacks throughout the day. Each private apartment has a kitchenette and refrigerator, like a mini-fridge. I did see one apartment where the lady had a full-sized refrigerator; the secret to that is when you pay that fee to lock in your price, you are able to ask them to make adjustments to the apartment, like move the shelving around so that you could fit in. They have a weekly housekeeping and menu service. They offer scheduled transportation to appointments and errands. They have the security pendant; all of the residents have that for emergency assistance. You get basic cable and all your utilities are included. You get a full calendar of activities and life-enriching programs. The day that me and my sister went to visit, they had someone coming in doing healthy smoothies; it was pretty cool. Each floor has its own laundry room and it's free. You don't have to put any coins in the washer-dryer, they're free. It also has a billiards room, a library, exercise room, a chapel, and a beauty and barbershop. They also have rehab in house; should you have surgery or a hospital stay and you need rehab, you can get it right there in house. The staff was wonderful. She was very informational, and she even gave me a packet with everything, the amenities, and any floor plans and all of that. She has a packet ready; she admitted the day before, which I felt was very nice. I also talked to a manager, she did a follow up call with me, and talked to me as well.

We found University Pines for my mother. Mary is the salesperson who walked with us and did the tour through University Pines. She did a great job with giving us any information we asked and giving us lots of detail about how their services work. We asked to look at one-bedroom apartments and studios, and we went over the prices with her. She also did a tour of the whole community inside and out. It's three stories, and it has lots of amenities like a hairdresser, a library, and meals. They get three meals a day. They have a beautiful dining area, they have a chapel, and they provide transportation services, which was a big plus for us, because my mom doesn't drive. It's very easily accessible. She's able to sign up pretty much any weekday when she needs to go places, so that was a big plus for the community. We were able to find her a studio on the ground floor with a patio of her own, which was also something that we were looking for.

We found University Pines for my grandma and we're moving her today. We liked that facility the best. It seems like they had a better established engagement and is more like a community for the residents. My grandmother liked that a lot coming from living isolated. The staff was fantastic, so helpful, and volunteered so much information. We only looked at the studio rooms, but my grandmother absolutely loved them. They're well taken care of, and the floor plans were really nice. There was a lot of room. They were just nice and well kept. The amenities included three chef-prepared meals a day. There's a giant dining room that all the residents come down to eat. All the residents have to come down at specific meal times. They have a menu that they can choose from each day. They have a TV room, gym, chapel, board games, and card games. They have little groups that the residents put together (like an arts and crafts group), and they have people that do crocheting, knitting, and quilting. They have bingo almost everyday. There's a library, and each month they do special engagement opportunities (like musicians come in occasionally). They throw big parties on the Holidays, and they do little birthday things. It was a fantastic facility. I wanna live there.

I enjoy University Pines. It's like three floors. You have your own home, and you can choose between a studio, a one-bedroom, and a two-bedroom. The people are very nice. Everything is fine. The room is clean. The food is fine, but it could be better. They have a lot of activities. They have activities probably every hour on the hour, except when you're eating. There's a lot to do. The people are very friendly. You can ask anybody anything and they'll tell you. I only have a studio and it is large enough for my possessions. I enjoy it. The staff is very good. They're very nice. I've no problem with the staff. They do whatever they have to for you. They serve three meals a day. They have breakfast, dinner, and lunch. I think this is the most economical choice in the Pensacola area.

The tour I did at University Pines in Pensacola was really nice. It was very informative. I saw the independent living. The staff was great. When I had questions, they showed me everything. They tried to make sure they didn't forget anything, which they didn't. The staff itself was really great. The buildings were nice. They were just a little older than I thought they would be. I like the openness when you come in and the levels. I thought it was very clean too.

I've moved into University Pines, and what I like best about it is the location. Plus out of all of the ones that I looked at, the size of the rooms was great. Most of the communities that I looked at were like moving into a motel room. The square footage of this facility is much larger. It would facilitate all of my belongings, my household goods, and furniture. The staff is nice. They're short-handed. They're courteous, but very busy. The manager left the week I moved in, and their maintenance manager had a stroke and died. Their chef or cook left since I've been here, and they've got a big turnover; so there's problems here. The food is inconsistent I'm not a real fussy person, but I haven't had a great meal, it's average at best. I think it's due to the mess of not having a lot of staff. It's slow. The activities seem to be good. They put out an activity schedule, so I think they're attempting to do a good job. I've met people that have been here as long as 19 years. I'm new and just trying to fit in, so maybe I'm looking for negatives instead of a positives. For the activities, I think they're trying to do a good job.

I'm moving into University Pines. I went and took a tour of the place. The grounds were nice, and the people were nice. The residents I got to meet were friendly. The apartment they showed me was nice. They have lots of things to do for the residents. They explained to me what they offer and everything. It seems to be a great fit for me. Everything is right there, and I couldn't ask for anything more. They have transportation to take me anywhere I need to go, and they provide all three meals. Everything I need is right there. The staff is very friendly and very informative. The first lady I met was the sales lady, and she was very helpful. I got to see a sample menu and it looked like they had a very good selection. The place was immaculate and spotless, and the grounds were beautiful and very well kept.

I moved into University Pines, and it is excellent. They're very helpful, the food is outstanding, they gave me a medallion in case I would fall or need help in anything. They're very informative, and I like it a whole lot, it's a luxury apartment. The staff is excellent, and very helpful. Right now they have bingo, ceramics, karaoke, and all kinds of different things, but I haven't gone to them yet. They have a beauty shop, a library, they have a gym, and they have a laundromat.

From what I saw, it seems like University Pines would be an excellent place for seniors to live. The staff was very nice and very cordial. The room was clean, inviting, and cozy. They had a couple of different room sizes, one was very small and one was medium sized. I want my brother to have freedom to come and go like he wanted to. I also want him to have someone to possibly just see that he's taking his medication, but that would cost additional $250 a month for that person. They're like independent people who work there, but they aren't under contract with University Pines, and you have to pay them to dispense medication and that type of thing. The dining area was clean and inviting. It's a large area. They had bingo and outside activity. They had balconies and patios for the individual apartments. The staff was very friendly and very informative.

We visited University Pines. Overall, it was okay but not much more than okay. A lot of people were spread out, they have long wings, long halls and only one elevator. To get down to dinner, if you can use stairs you're okay, if you're like my wife and you need an elevator, you gotta stand them on and I didn't like that, otherwise it was okay. The people were fine and they were friendly. The rooms were pretty typical but they were adequate in size, and they were acceptable. We have had a couple dinners and the food was typical and okay. I went over there before the shutdown.

My mother has been in this facility for 14 years. I can't think of any better place for her to live. The staff is caring not only to the resident, but to their family as well. During this pandemic, they have been diligent in keeping everyone safe. The staff wears masks all the time and are careful about social distancing with the activities they play and eating in the dining room. I am happy to say that so far, they have not had one case of Covid. I have visited other facilities in the past and I did not think that they presented a warm homey feeling. When I go to University Pines to visit my mother, I feel like I am going to her home, not just a place where she lives.

I looked at University Pines, but it's not continuing care. The rates are comparable to other places. The staff member said that they're a cracker barrel of senior facilities. She was very friendly and competent, but the rooms were very small and cramped. There's really no views to be had, like the residents have views of the parking lot or some woods. They have no property around there where you can stroll or walk, and it's on such a busy road. They were putting in some new carpeting and stuff, so maybe they're upgrading it. It looks like it's in the middle of the road. It didn't really impress me because it's too close to a busy road and there's not any landscaping. Plus the rooms were very small and cramped. The dining room I wasn't able to access because of COVID, but for happy hour they gave us a fruit plate that we ate that outside. It's only independent living with no upfront fee.

The rooms are well kept by house cleaning staff. There is room in the kitchen area for a microwave and coffee pot if desired. All staff I have encountered have been very congenial and supportive of both residents and their loved ones. In particular, a great big thank you to Kathy M., the Activities Coordinator. She goes way above and beyond what is required in working with the residents and they all seem to love her. A couple of the many things she does with them are the handbell choir and classes to teach the ladies beading to make jewelry. Some of the amenities offered are three balanced meals a day as well as snacks in both morning and afternoon as well as cleaning of the apartments once every two weeks. The property is well kept both inside and out. The decor is very pleasant and the grounds are kept perfectly manicured. Management is always eager to help with any problem the residents may have. Kudos also go to Gary K., who drives the community’s bus. He goes above and beyond to make sure the residents are able to go where they need to, including medical appointments. My sister often has to go out to the VA for her medical care. He takes her and waits while she has her appointment so she also has a way back to the Pines. Sometimes this can entail a wait of an hour or more and he is very gracious about it.

I moved into University Pines. I like my apartment, but the food is terrible. The staff is wonderful, but it's depressing. There are so many old people here, and I wasn't ready for that. The food is not the best. The activities do not suit me. They play bingo, bocce ball while sitting in the chair, and they have music in the afternoon, but the whole place is locked up tight. Everybody is in bed and no one is out mingling after 6:30 p.m.; that's not my way of living.

We were treated well at University Pines. They were under a lot of repairs at the time. It felt more like a dated hotel room. The staff member was great and did a good job of showing us just about everything that they had. They had exercise equipment, rooms to read in, and rooms to go watch TV with other people. The dining hall was very nice. The place was just a little bit dated. Everybody was very nice and very kind.

University Pines is a smaller, clean community. The fact that there were several stories deterred us, because mother is afraid of heights and won't go up the stairs. They had a different kind of setup for a community room, with areas where people can listen to music. I think it's kind of neat because music is very good for dementia patients. They had a larger number of little apartments, but they were smaller than the other community I visited. The rooms were not spacious enough, and they're independent living only. Everything was painted and not in disrepair or had any signs of neglect. The buildings were well kept. The staff was professional.

Mom is at University Pines, and that’s where she wanted to stay because it's been really good for her. She gets her regular meals, and she interacts with people on a daily basis. I've eaten several meals with her, and it's all been good. Mom's room is very clean but small with a single bed and a living room. It is maintained, they provide the laundry service, and they vacuum the carpet. She's pleased with the place.

University Pines is an excellent facility. The staff was nice, very helpful, and very knowledgeable. They seemed to have a good relationship with all the people living there. They knew everyone by first name. They seemed like warm, genuine people. They serve three meals a day. They had numerous activities. They have a trail that goes all the way around the facility so you can go walk. You can have a pet there, and there are places to walk your pet outside. They have day trips as well. You schedule ahead of time, and they have shuttles to get you to doctor’s appointments.

University Pines was probably the most active with staff-led programs at the time we were there than any of the places we visited. It is called independent living, but to us it was like a step between independent and assisted. It is not really independent and not really assisted. For example, none of apartments had full kitchens, and we are not ready for that yet. It was a very lovely campus, and the people who were there were obviously very happy and very engaged. They had an exercise corner with two or three pieces of equipment.

University Pines was clean and very pretty. The staff was very nice and very friendly. My main complaints about it were that it did not have a pool, and I did not like the food. It was very bland. I asked for baked potato, but it was cooked in a microwave, which I detest because it made it gummy. They had a couple of choices for each meal, but they were all just very bland. However, the rooms were very nice.

The apartments were small and had an air-conditioner in the middle of the living room. The staff was nice and friendly. Some of the activities were OK, but most of the residents at University Pines were older than what I was looking for. They had transportation to places, and they did have other activities that were going on in the community. It was an open dining room with a one-time meal service. Everybody ate at the same time, and they did have options there. However, the people that were there didn't seem to bother.

University Pines is nice and spacious. It looks like a good place to where my dad could move in to. It is bit of a community of his peers. They had shared with us a couple of the one-bedrooms that was vacated at the time. They shared with us that they were taking some of the residents to the Blue Angels show during that time. They shared some of the activities they have available for the men like a billiards area. They encourage the men to meet there. They have a TV area that is separate, and they have a weight room too. They are really good and nice.

I found University Pines very clean. It appeared to be well-run. They had a variety of different facilities available as far as studios and a one or two-bedroom apartments. It had an all-inclusive, with three meals a day in the dining room. The thing that impressed me most was that they had ground floor rooms with direct access to the outside and that is important for me. They had just about any activity you could want. They have a list of probably a dozen different activities every day. They do have outings and transportation available for shopping or doctors' appointments. They have medical people that come in regularly to do blood pressure checks, exercises classes, and things like that. They also have a poetry club, a pool table, a TV room, and a beauty parlor. The staff was very friendly and very, very nice. The atmosphere was more like a very nice hotel. My mother was in a nursing home and there were definitely sick people there, but this was just individual people who were independent, but not completely on their own anymore. Other than the fact that it was along a busy highway, it really was almost walking distance to a shopping area. They actually invited me to a luau yesterday and the food was good, tasty, and well prepared.

University Pines was very active and social. It didn't appear to be a nursing home-type setting. The rooms have different sizes. They have a very small all-in-one type room, and then they have one a little bit bigger. It's still one room, but it has a lot more space in it, and then they have rooms for couples. The staff is very friendly, open, welcoming. They have a big calendar that they print every month. There are probably 8 to 10 activities for people to choose from every day. They have different trips during the week, and they have people that come in to entertain. They have all different types of games and activities for the residents every day. I visited my mother several times, and they give them options for different things. It's not just one thing that they have to eat. It's very good. They have several chefs that work, and they alternate, so it's very good. The dining area is like a restaurant, so she can mingle, and it's very open. I think the best thing for her is the social activities. She's able to get out and meet people. She likes it.

In my opinion, University Pines has become a training place. They're bringing in other people that have to be trained. They also make the staff work too hard without any extra help coming in to train people. And we are not getting the attention and not getting the service. They are understaffed. We had good management a year ago or so. I've been here over a year and a half and I was hoping to spend my next 10 years. But the way the University Pines is looking and has been and its maintenance, we'll never be here for another five years. This place needs a complete overhaul of the building. They don't even have maintenance to try to fix chairs, so they throw them in the garbage, which I think is not right.
