The people at Mathison Retirement Community are very happy, so it makes me happy when I'm there. I have a friend who moved out from a big house to live there and she loves it. So that makes me feel good. They have a library, too. The meals that I had there were good. The room I saw had a bedroom with a living room and it had a better kitchen than they had at my current community, plus the rooms were clean.

I was already familiar with Mathison Retirement Community because my mother-in-law lived there. We were very impressed with the staff, the cleanliness of the facility, the room arrangements, and everything about it. We were very pleased. During the tour, the staff was outstanding and very professional.

Mathison Retirement Center was comparable and a couple dollars cheaper than the other place I was considering. I think that is mostly because of the location. It was inland and not right on the beach, but it seemed to be good. Both of places offered bingo and bunco and all the entertainment. It had nice, spacious rooms. It was two miles from my home, so that would have made it more convenient to do mom’s laundry and spend more time with her. The place was new and nice.

I love my grandmother being at Mathison Retirement Center. The nurses and staff are always caring and treat her like their own family. The food is served in a huge dining room with place mats and everything. She loves the food and most days it has a lot of flavor. One thing I do not like is that they do not encourage her to get out of her room and participate in games or activities. Some days she goes days without leaving her room other than to eat and check the mail. She also claims that the employees are stealing her belongings. We know this is not true, but they have yet to try and prove her wrong. I wish they had security cameras or alarms or something so she has some peace of mind about the situation. She does love her outside area to sit and work in her garden. There is a tennis court that never gets used which bothers her.

Clean and beautiful. Soothing colors. Quiet bedrooms. Variety of special use rooms. (Library, exercise, card room, dining room, misc use rooms etc...) Food quality was more than adequate. Rooms in good repair. When problems occurred in the rooms, they were repaired/solved quickly. Security was good. Due to the nature of this facility being an "assisted living" as opposed to a "nursing home" it was not as oppressing. My mother was here for 2 years but after a fall was no longer able to take care of herself and was moved to Glen Cove Nursing Home in Panama City.
