We went to Seaside Springs Retirement Community. I would say that it's very good. I like Scott, the manager. I like the way he toured us. I like the apartments. I like his attention to what maybe my sister's needs might be in the future. It's a beautiful place. It's like brand new. The pricing was good. The amenities that they offer were good. I thought it was an exceptional facility. They offer three meals a day. They're only independent living, but you can bring extra help in, I think. What I like, too, is that they have managers that actually live on the premises, which is nice. If you need any assistance, you can bring that care in. I don't know if that will totally meet my sister's needs, but if you're talking about facilities and you want independent living, I think it's very nice. It's excellent.

Seaside Springs Retirement Community is satisfactory. What I like the most about this place is the camaraderie. My apartment is quite pleasant. I have my own patio. The food they serve is ample. The dining area is also very pleasant. The activities are just enough to keep you busy every day, all week. You can go to the swimming pool or out to the walking area. They just take care all of our needs.

Seaside Springs was all brand new and nice, but it was like living in a hotel or a ship. It was beautiful. It's not even full yet. It didn't feel like home to me, but it was fine. They had a lot of amenities. They had a book club, movies every night, and trivia. It was kind of cool, but their exercise room only had one treadmill. They didn't have any place I could walk, except out in the sun. There were a number of things that didn't work for me, but it is a beautiful facility for somebody else. They had one three-bedroom left. They had a few two-bedroom and mostly one-bedroom. Their studios were all gone. I was mostly interested in the two-bedroom. Only the outside ring of condos had outside space, a lanai, or a porch, which is kind of necessary in Florida. I have cats who'd like to sit outside, and they had no view there. You had to get in a list as a resident to switch to one when it became available. You couldn't do laps in their pool. It's more like taking a dip. I also thought they were very expensive. The guy during the tour was super glib talker and charmer kind of thing. I really didn't like the bait and switch kind of approach. He kept explaining, "It's not like you're living in your apartment. The apartment had like a super deluxe gourmet kitchen and washer and dryer" (which didn't interest me at all). It was small. I couldn't bring in a couple of bookcases. He kept saying things like, "Look how big the living room is." I'm thinking maybe a loveseat and a chair. In the three-bedroom, they chopped off some of the living room to get that extra room in. They had the walk-in closet in the spare bedroom, and that one wasn't connected to a bathroom (even though there were two bathrooms). The whole thing was just poorly thought out in so many ways. Everybody was very friendly with the guy who was giving me the tour. He said he did some of the quiz nights himself, and he knew them all. His mother moved in there as well. The managing superintendent and his wife also live there. Their mother lived there, too. They have this wonderful deal where they'll give you food any time you wanted. If you don't feel like coming out, they'll deliver it to your room. You can also order things or get it from the buffet rather than sit-down meals. They had a fine chef, and everybody loved their meals. It looked like an upscale apartment complex. You don't really feel like it's a facility. It also looked like they had garages and sunroofs, but you have to pay $50 extra for a carport or $100 extra monthly for a garage.

I'm at Seaside Springs Retirement Community. It's very nice and it's brand new, so it's not full, but it's got three meals a day and all kinds of services for us. It's close to Sarasota, so it's in a good location. It's close to Venice. I like it a lot. It's expensive though.
