Absolutely do not allow your family member to be dumped by the hospital into this facility.
My mother was brought here for rehab on a Friday night from the hospital. There were no meals set for her for the entire weekend. Luckily my sister was able to have a CNA scrape up some food in the kitchen which was closed. The food she received was not what she was supposed to be eating, but it was better than starving. Also the staff here is spread very thin and there is no way for them to properly care for the number of residents they have. My mother is supposed to wear a bi-pap machine anytime she sleeps to keep her blood gases down because she has COPD on her 2nd night there someone turned her bi-pap off but never took the mask off of her then on the 3rd night there they took it off of her to care for her bed sore and never put it back on her. This caused her blood gases to get so high that she was found unresponsive by my sister in the morning and her oxygen level was in the 60’s. The nurses and/or aides didn’t check on her to see if she was ok in the morning. Needless to say she was rushed to the emergency room and is not doing well. The response time for help from anyone is also awful. One of the nurses helped my sister get my mother into the bathroom because it had been 20+ minutes since the pushed the help button and once they got her into the bathroom they decided to test the emergency pull string in the bathroom and it was 20+ minutes before anyone came for the emergency call. So God help anyone who falls in the bathroom because they’re going to be there for a long time. We had reservations about my mom going into this facility because of the bad reviews but I was told by “ Marissa” the intake person that management had changed within the last 30 days and things are much better under the new management. She assured me that my mother would be cared for, instead they almost killed her. I have no idea if she is even going to make it out if the hospital now. This is only the tip of the iceberg of issues that occurred in the 2 1/2 days my mother was there, so be very wary of sending any loved ones here.

I am not writing this review ONLY for my parents, but for EVERYONES loved one that is in that facility. Let me start by saying that all of the staff were nice and pleasant. The nurses and Therapists are very good. Even the CNA's are good (even though it may not seem like it becasue they are so short staffed and it takes a very long time to get anything, it's not totally thier fault) most if not all of the CNA's are agency, so I felt that they were doing the best they could with what they were working with. Now, My family was in there recently and I could NOT believe the sight of the food that was served for one thing, i.e 3/4 of a sausage link with gravy on it and an icecream scoop of mac and cheese and applesause and some watered down fruit drink that was oversaturated artificial sweetners ( I tasted it myself), and add more insult to this, it was ICE COLD. Who would serve something like this to anyone let alone to people who are paying customers??!! Every..single..morning breakfast was cold, ice cold, WHY? eggs w/green beans??? What in the world!! We needed food warmed up that I Brought in and there is NO WHERE to warm your food, no microwaves anywhere except in some managers office. WHY?? My loved one was there with an infection of the legs and NO ONE thought to change the sheets every...single...day, why? That is elementary to understand that when an infection is healing it is important to make sure the sheets are clean for that person. Again, These people, These humans are not there because it's free care, they are paying very good money for this care. When my mother was there is 2020, the care, the food was absolutely great, that was why we wanted my parents there this time, but there is NO WAY, NO WAY I would take them there again OR refer anyone there, to pay very good money and have deal with things like this, it is unacceptable. I was asked to wait to write this review until they left there and were home, Because they were worried about being treated bad or receiving some type of retaliation, just to give you an idea of how the atmosphere felt there. That is why I waited to write this. I write all of this to say, if you are thinking that because this facility is in Viera that it must be good care. PLEASE DO NOT FALL INTO THAT. Do not bring someone you love here.

I came here 4 1/2 months ago after hip replacement. I had been in 2 other places. Viera Del Mar is hands down on of the best places to be. Because of their therapy department. I am going home. Upon arriving I had about a 98% chance of walking. My physical therapist Eric and my occupational therapist Kirk never gave up on me even when I gave up on myself. This whole team of therapists in this facility chip in and help when needed whether you are their patient or not. The facility has a therapy department to be proud of. Nurses like Donna, Morgan and T are great. The CNA,s treat you like you are family. Rachel, Shetoria, Sherry, Deana and Joanna just to name a few. So does Damien the trasporter. Take a chance with this facility. You won't be sorry. P.S. Pam is a sweetheart also

As soon as a patient arrives, they are put in a diaper! As weeks have passed, I have learned first hand , it is because the CNA staff is LAZY, and they don't change people! Once patients are up and motivated to get out of bed, you have to beg staff to help get the patient out of bed. If you are lucky, someone will respond and help. The food is disguisting, and they serve the same thing for lunch that its repeated for dinner. If you get real lucky, after sitting on a soiled diaper for 10 to 12 hrs, you can finally get the attention of someone to change the patient's diaper, that's if you volunteer to assist them! Too bad 0 is not on the ratings!

My mom is a long-term resident who has dementia. I couldn’t be more pleased with Viera Del Mar. i am less than a mile away, so I visit often at various times and have never found anything concerning regarding the staff or facility. They are extremely attentive and patient. Medically, they acted in less than 5 minutes to get my mom to the hospital when she began to show signs of a stroke. Even the neurosurgeon praised their fast response. When she returned several days later, she was warmly welcomed. I am so thankful!!

My mom came out of there unable to walk
It took me and my family three weeks
To get her back on track. Walking and gain some weight.

If you have a patient with dementia, this is not the facility to choose.
They glaring accepted my mother to make there numbers and within a week wanted to kick her out.

I was a resident for a week at Viera Del Mar Rehab Center. It's a pathetic place. It's a warehouse for the dying. Everything there is a protocol, and they use it extensively. If you went there in day time, it's a beautiful facility, well lit, and seems friendly. The thing you've got to remember is this is for profit.
They said a geriatric doctor will come and see me, but I never saw a doctor in a week; never. My first day I wasn't greeted, there were no telephones and no clocks in the room. My wife came and we went to their dining facility. She is 81 and Japanese, I'm 78. We asked to try their split pea soup. A woman brought one bowl, and ignored my wife. It's obvious we're not welcome. We're getting ready to leave and a large guy came over our table, told us we were 30 minutes late, and I should have registered my wife at the front desk, and paid a $5 fee. I was getting upset. It was a public confrontation, not a friendly gesture. So we left without lunch. My wife went home, and I went to administration.
I'm severely diabetic. One night, my blood sugar collapsed to around 40, but I spent an hour trying to get a nurse, and said they have no orange juice. At the end of the day, everything is locked up and the kitchen crew takes the keys with them. On another night, my blood sugar went to 55. An angry, young nurse came and gave an envelope of fruit punch flavored glucose gelatin. This stuff is so sweet it burns your mouth. She then left, did not stay or ascertained anything, and my blood sugar continued to drop.
A retired marine major is apparently in charge of security and the author of their protocols. Their employees are ranked by salary, and they are restricted absolutely to precepts of their job. They're not allowed to go above and beyond. That's the antithesis of nursing. The nurses were friendly enough in the day time and they assisted me in bathing. It wasn't the staff's fault. This is administration. The staff was friendly enough except for the kitchen staff. Their competence is limited by the rules of their job. You're not to spend any effort that you're not paid for.
Most of their patients have Alzheimer's and dementia and confined to wheelchairs. They play stupid games, when most of these patients are gurgling and moaning in their wheelchairs literally, and are not in full position of their faculties or bodies. But at the end of the day, when visitors are no longer allowed, they just put them in their rooms and forget them. Tear it down. As long as you've got the mindset of the administration like that, there's no reason for it to exist. It's not a rehabilitation facility. It's just a warehouse for the dying. That's the kindest thing that I can say about it.

My father is in Viera del Mar Health and Rehabilitation Center. It's got a lot of up-to-date facilities, and it's practically brand new. They just don't have telephones in the rooms. If you need to contact your loved one, you have to give them a cell phone or go there personally. Because they're so new, some of the things take longer to get. They seem a bit understaffed. The food looks awesome and comes in right away. They ask my dad what kind of food he likes and what he doesn't like, and they make sure that he likes them. They encourage everybody to get up in their wheelchairs and head over to the main dining area. They play music, interact with other people, and have games for them to participate in. They have a little courtyard.
