Assistance With Instrumental Activities Of Daily Living:

The Camellia isn’t just an assisted living facility that concentrates on the basics. We’re also a center that concentrates on instrumental activities that may not always be necessary for standard daily existence.

Strong examples of IADLs are:

  • Telephone, mobile device, computer and Internet use.
  • Medicine administration.
  • Finance management.
  • Laundry and housekeeping.
  • Food preparation.
  • Use of public transportation.
  • Shopping.

Some people have trouble with all kinds of daily activities. There are other people, however, who are only able to handle certain categories of daily activities. That’s why nursing home, assisted living and in-home care plans are all readily available to aging individuals. Assisted living facility residents are often able to handle certain tasks. An assisted living resident may be able to take care of food preparation without a problem. She may, however, have trouble with medication administration. The Camellia carefully evaluates all residents in order to figure out their specific levels of need. No two residents are the same.

I went here and it's just a beautiful place; there's no denying that. You walk into the dining area, which is really pretty. There were a lot of the residents there. For my mom, the setup just was not good. The main concern that I had was when you walked in, there was, I guess, maybe about thirty-to-fifty feet in front of the entrance. There was a huge, gorgeous staircase that led to the downstairs. I think mainly that was where residents who still had living spouses were staying. It was a little uncomfortable to think that she could just walk by that and maybe misjudge her step or something. There's no barrier or anything because it was just fully open. My mom only has vision in one eye, and so that's really the main reason that we didn't choose that one. My daughter-in-law is in that facility. I would have chosen that one for that very reason, and another place which is all one level. The other thing that I didn't like is that my brother came from Kentucky, and we viewed it along with his wife. There were two rooms and two bedrooms, it was separated by one bathroom, and there were two people in each room in the location that they showed me. Then there were going to be four people sharing the same bathroom, and that kind of bothered me because it just seemed like a bit much. It just seemed like there was no privacy, and the rooms were really not adequate to hold two people. It's a very beautiful facility. The people I talked to were very nice. I will say the very bottom floor -- the first floor -- would probably have been my choice for my mom. It was a little closer to the beach. They had a really pretty path outside. It was all secure and everything, but they had a little gazebo in the back, and the bottom floor had little patios for the residents. I think it's mainly couples who go out there. So, yeah, it would be ideal for someone in that situation.

My family and I sent an Edible Arrangement gift as a present for a friend's 79th birthday. We live out of the local area currently. Our daughter paid him a visit since she had to evacuate the Tampa area. During the visit it was discovered that the staff placed his gift in the community refrigerator. He only got to enjoy the grapes. The staff didn't even have the courtesy to give him the card that came with the arrangement for him to read the message and be aware who sent the gift. What's more frustrating is the fact we called to verify the gift was received and asked the staff member to make sure he received the gift. This resident is very special to our family. I'm a Registered Nurse and it's pretty pathetic when medical staff takes advantage of others.

I found a place for my Mom just right near my house. It has a lot of area where she can't wander out of the facility. She has a door in her place that crosses right out to a big porch. So she has access right to the outside from her room which is nice. The people there are just amazing. My mother has dementia but the staff there has patience like the saints. They are just the most caring people I've met. My mother loves her room. She loves the food. They can fill out their own menu every month. The food there has just been wonderful. What I like the best is that they take them out at least once a week to have lunch and shopping and stuff. They do bring in a lot of different organizations that would have lunch with them too. I would most definitely recommend this place to others as my Mom has no complaints about the living arrangements there and she is very happy now.
