Very Distraught Daughter of Patient there

Please, keep your loved ones away from this horrific place! My mother became seriously ill after two weeks there and had to be rushed with pneumonia which she caught there and very dehydrated to the hospital. She was diagnosed with pneumonia by her own surgeon who requested an X-ray. The entire staff is unprofessional and totally heartless and detached . They congregate and socially mingle in the hallways and loud talk in Spanish. The nurses stay on their computers and are not attentive to the patients. This happens while the elderly hurting patients sit in wheelchairs next to each other in the hallways for endless hours and have their three meals on a small table shoved over their wheelchairs. I have pictures and video of this horror in which I found my mother in.
The Therapy Department was a positive there and responded to communication, showed some humanity.
Administration didn’t answer emails or calls. I never really had anyone communicate back. This total neglect trickled down to all departments there. The patients are in danger in that place especially weekends there’s usually a ghost crew of nurses and a shortage of CNAs who have to take care of more patients that they can handle. My mother has had to recover at several facilities and the care has been fairly decent, but this place should be inspected more often because no one cares for the elderly patients’ well being. So sad that this is happening in America using Medicare funds.

My mom is in rehab at Riviera Health Resort. They have personnel, so that's a good thing. Each nurse has an assistant nurse, so usually there's two people. They have shift changes, so people don't get exhausted. They are strict with visitations just because of COVID. If you want to visit every day, you are allowed to visit, the only thing is you need to tell them your schedule. Usually, the appointment is for one hour, but you can make two appointments in two hours. You can go in the morning, one hour, and then you can come back in the afternoon, another hour, and that's fine for them. What they need to know is what time you're going to be there. Right now, they allow us one person in the room. They have rooms where they can put two people, and if you want more privacy for your family, if you pay an addition of $50 per day, then you can have one room for your family. They have that flexibility.
Most of the people are very nice. Some of them are not too friendly, but they don't treat you badly. The food is not that great, it's like hospital food. They have a doctor and a cardiologist in-house. They're very professional. They know what they're doing and they're doing it well. It is a very large facility, and being a large facility, they're well organized, also in terms of the COVID. They are very strict with the masks, they take the temperatures, and you have to sign the time that you are in and the time you go out. They have up to two hours complimentary parking, which is nice because sometimes you don't find parking around. The place is pretty clean and very nice.

As a physician myself I have to say that they have excelent nurses, specially Atlantic and Francisco. Very dedicated to all the patients, they treated my mother with kindness and professionalism, loving staff. The doctors are always available, the social workers are always trying to help the patient and the family. great therapy, the diet is great, and the place itself looks like a 5 star hotel.

My mother is an 80 year old that was being transferred from Baptist West Hospital. After speaking to their representative for Baptist Hospital and gave then my mom's medicare information, they accepted her but later decided to reject her due to her mental status. The social worker from Baptist contacted me to inform me that Riviera Representative named Ruth, could not accept my mother due to an AHCA inspection that they were expecting any day. When I contacted AHCA they were very disappointed with Riviera's police and the inspections AHCA conducts has nothing to do with the mental status of any patients. Obviously this is not a nursing/rehabilitation facility, it is an ongoing country club that wants to keep their reputation based on looks/atmosphere and could care less about the patients. I am happy to inform anyone going to this place that its all about cosmetics/looks/atmosphere and that this facility is insensitive to anyone's needs...........After inspecting many facilities we did find a happy place that is clean, organized and caring and that WHAT COUNTS. LOOKS ARE DECEIVING. Do not place your loved one in a facility that is capable of removing your loved one on garbage day!

I was in Riviera Health Resort when I had an accident and broke my upper arm last year. It’s a friendly little facility. It’s a brand new place. My son managed to place me in a private room. I was there for a month right next to the nurse’s station. It’s excellent. I would highly recommend anybody there.
