We went to Heritage House Assisted Living. The best thing about this community is probably because it's a nice smaller community, and they seem to do a lot for them as far as taking them out for field trips and things like that. They had a nice big backyard, but for my brother, it was maybe just not enough parking. Not that he drives, but we drive and there are four sisters who go see him, so the parking probably would be an issue, especially if somebody had their own car there.
The staff who gave the tour was very pleasant and thorough. We got to tour a room and the whole area. It's not big, but we got to tour that. The dining area seems nice. I think it was too early for lunch, but we could smell the food and it smelled good. What we're concerned about in this facility is that it just had a short fence around it. Like if somebody wants to take off and it's right across from the school, which would be busy, and it's kind of a busy road.

I did a tour of Heritage House Assisted Living. It was just smaller and darker, and that was the concern that I had. It was a much smaller community. It was good and was fine, but it was just small. The rooms were about the same size as others. That was the only thing; they had lower ceilings and were just darker. They have one patio outback. They did not provide transportation. They had a Halloween party, and have things like that, but it was very limited in what they offered, or what they told me about.

Our tour at Heritage House Assisted Living was very informative to us. I find it like a very nice place to put your family there. It was nice, clean, the people were very friendly and informative, and they look like they generally care about their patients. I like the staff's personality, the care and the way they behave. I saw one of the rooms and they look fine, I saw one of the residents' rooms. They have transportation to take patients from and to. It's not within walking distance of restaurants but it's close.

I will be moving my mother into Heritage House Assisted Living, and it feels like, and it is, like a home that's been added onto. It has a homey vibe to it, a hometown vibe to it. It's nicely furnished, and it comes with all your complete furniture. You don't have to worry about furnishing it or adding any furniture yourself. The one who toured me was actually a new person, so she was kind of learning the ropes, so for some questions she had to call for some assistance on. That was because she was new in the position, but she was so nice to deal with. I was in the dining area, and all the residents were eating lunch. They all seemed really happy, and I asked a couple of them how the food was; they said it was good. I haven't tried it myself, but that's the word I got from some of the residents. I was there during lunchtime, and honestly, they were all sitting in the dining room having or enjoying their lunch, so that was the only activity they were partaking in at that point in time. They have a beauty salon, and the woman is there once a week. They have no pool, but they have a main sitting area where they can watch TV or do activities. It's a relatively small facility, and it only has 16 residents I believe.

Heritage House's price was high, and my sister was looking for something less expensive. It made a good impression though. They brought us into the lobby area and the sales area and they showed us one unit, which was very nice. I was impressed with it. The staff members were knowledgeable of the place, but the dining room looked like it could use some upgrades. We didn't see a lot of the place, but mostly because we determined right away that my sister couldn't afford it. I also didn't observe any activities. They said there was a library and an activity room where they join to play cards and do puzzles together, but we did not see those facilities.
