I was very dissatisfied with Westchester. The rooms were too small and had a small refrigerator and microwave. I wasn't impressed for the amount of money I would be paying. The staff was manipulative, misleading, and the administrator coordinator just went along with the director. They wasted six weeks of my search because they told me I was going to go in no matter what, but it wasn't true. I even switched my insurance company for them. They also had a lot of skilled nursing residents, but they only had one nurse. I thought that was wrong to put these people in that position, so I called the state on them. They came the next day and removed 38 people, then went back again and removed another 22. There were only about 20 people left. They lack space for people to get around. It's beautiful, but there were a couple of areas that people can't fit, especially if they are in a wheelchair.

I went by to look at Westchester of Winter Park. I didn't talk to anyone about it. I thought that it was very nice and since they're rated as a four, they must be good. It was a nice, large room. I haven't seen any others to compare them, but I liked this one very much. I think it's nice that they have suites because I'm 88 years old and my son is a little disabled, sp it would be good to have the two rooms adjoining.

I used to go to Westchester Assisted Living. I was in their nursing home part, and I would take my chair and go through the hallway into the assisted living. They had parties all the time; there was a lot of activity going on. I was there all the time during the day. It was a lot of fun. They had a beautiful little setup over there. It was like you were going into another world. They had activities going on all the time, with lots of parties for all different holidays. They had a very big and nice dining room that was like a restaurant, and they had servers. The rooms were beautiful and big. I used to have friends there. The staff was very accommodating.

Westchester has very nice rooms -- very modern -- and the one thing that disturbed me from them was their pricing was kind of a la carte. As different services were needed, you were charged more so the fees could get quite high. They were a little more upscale, with a very pretty dining room, and the grounds were very pretty. They were more like a hotel. They charge a fee to do the laundry; there were a lot of different fees so that could get quite pricey. They have all kinds of activities: games, organized games, physical activities, television, movies, arts classes, people that come, and they have outings to different places. I would recommend this facility, and I think it is more inviting if you have one flat fee even it is high in the beginning because people don’t like to be nickeled out.

Dad was at Westchester for a while. He was in the assisted living. The room was basically blank, but it was kept clean. He was very happy with the nurses and especially happy with the food. I liked the staff that I encountered. They were very helpful. They didn't ignore his concerns, and I felt peace of mind that my father was there.

My mother has been with Westchester since the end of last year. They are very good. They have attended my mother very well. We don't have any complaints about them.

We really liked Westchester. I thought it's a good place for my mom. I'd like to move my mom in there but we can't afford it right now until we get government aid. We didn't get to meet the nursing staff or anything. We just talked to the registration people. They were very friendly and helpful.

It was very nice. However I questioned whether any staff formed relationship with my grandmother. The scheduled meals, hotel style rooms, cleanliness, fresh linens, and on-site health care providers were all very positive aspects of my grandmother's facility. The architecture was nice and design was important, which I believe is important to the residents' sense of dignity. I know the home held group activities but I am not sure of the degree to which my grandmother was involved. However I am sure there were opportunities. I would have appreciated closer staff involvement with the residents' lives, more checking in, and perhaps a mental evaluation for each resident regularly.

This facility is an upscale assisted-living home full of contemporary conveniences. It looks very similar to a shopping mall, complete with a cascading water fountain and indoor cafe. The dining area includes table cloths and chandeliers while the living quarters boast two-bedroom suites. I am not sure how much money it costs to live here, but it is definitely a far cry from what this writer envisions when one says "nursing home". It appears that the goal here is to make sure that the residents have opportunities to continue to live rather than a place to come to die (which is what many homes seem to project). The residents were all very well dressed when I visited (no hospital gowns) and it did NOT have a bad odor (which nursing homes are notorious for their stink). This seemed more like a luxury hotel/mall combination and it was a pleasure to visit. I wish all homes could be of such quality and a pleasure to visit.
