I liked Symphony at Delray Beach. It's new and clean. I loved the dining room. It had a very upscale restaurant feeling, and there was also an outdoor area. I liked the room. They were big and modern. I liked that they had a little movie theater for the residents. People who are shy and introverted, still had something to do because most of the activities are meant to make people interact with each other, but not everybody can do that regularly. It had a very big welcome area and the staff was quite friendly. The place was clean and bright. The only thing that they didn't have was a pool. I think a pool is not necessary, but a lot of elderly people exercise in the pool because it's less strenuous.

I toured Symphony at Delray Beach for my husband, and I wasn't very impressed with it that much. I saw a lot of people with their own private aid, which means to me that the place is not supplying enough care to the residents, so that was a red flag for me. If you're paying that much money per month, you should not have to hire additional people. I didn't feel that the level of care that my husband would receive would be sufficient. Also, it was a lot bigger, and a lot more walking, and that's my husband's problem. At this point, he can't walk by himself. He can stand, but he can't go anywhere, and he needs a wheelchair. My hope is that he can improve while he's there, and he can use a walker independently, which is how he was before he went into the hospital and the rehab. I would like to at least get back the skills that he lost, and I didn't think that Symphony would do that for him. The rooms are very pretty, but I think it was physically harder to negotiate. I asked them about the food, and they gave me two menus to see what was being served, and that there were choices, which is good because my husband is a picky eater. He's very slim, and he doesn't eat very much, so it's nice to have variety for him. The facility was very clean and well kept.
