My Dad was a patient here and it was a nightmare. Family members consistently had to check on him because the level of care was very poor. During the interview we were lied to about the number of patients to staff as was obvious in the care they received. One nurse told me they actually had over 20 patients to each nurse. The nurses were mostly nice but overworked. Then there were the aides who had a terrible attitude, rude with a nasty attitude as if they were doing you a favor in doing their jobs.
The staff doctor was basically nonexistent. He sometime showed up at 6AM to see patients then went off to his day job. Out of the facility. And getting him on the phone was difficult. Once you did speak to him, he was curt and acted as if he were doing you a favor.
Dad was given medication that he didn't need and we asked the doctor to stop the meds. He agreed with us but the follow through never happened. We had to make sure we were at the facility at medication time to see what he was being given. This happened more than once.
His roommate soiled the floor and no one cleaned it up for over 9 hours. Even after I asked for them to do so.
When he would call or ring for help - no one would come. EVER! Only after I showed up and went to an administrator did he have someone look in on him. This happened over and over again. And other residents agreed as well. When walking down the hall you'd hear people calling staff for help and no one ever answered, I helped more than a few myself. They all couldn't wait to get out of there.
In defense of the few staff members who were helpful and nice, thank you. However the ratio of terrible staff to good is basically 10 to 1.

My mother was in Heartland for a little while. Their equipment wasn't normally working and my mother had fallen and she couldn't get anybody to respond quickly. They sent her to the hospital three days after because her face swelled up. Their appearance was OK. It was more of the 70s appeal and there was a lot of much older people. Their rehabilitation was not the greatest. The staff was friendly but they really were pushing for Medicaid so that the State would pay for everything. She complained about the food all the time. It was always cold and never had any flavor. If they're going to give her a call button, it needs to be working. If they fall or get hurt, they need to make sure they go to the emergency room that day or that night or whenever that happens, not two days or three days later, and adding that to the bill was another pain because it happened on their premises and they were supposed to be caring for her. They should be more aware of what's going on in the rooms, have better food, and have a little bit longer rehabilitation.
