I liked Brookdale Southside. It reminds me of a resort. It looks like a resort, it doesn't look like a senior living facility. You have a nice, big, elegant dining room. It seemed like five star dining. Some of the residents that I passed by and saw seemed to be happy. Some would come in for dinner, they were walking, going from room to room, or from one place. I just like the atmosphere of the place. I like where the room's located, it's on the ground level. My mother wanted to be on the ground level, and they just happen to have a room there. They had a calendar they gave me and showed me the activities for each day. The staff was professional and nice.

I toured the independent living of Brookdale Southside. It was very large. I had hoped to find a place with a pool, and they had one. I remember a pool table area and a couple of recreational areas, but it was spread out enough that it just felt very comfortable. I liked it very much. They had a couple of very large dining areas and smaller and larger recreational areas. I especially like the fact that every room allows you to have an outside patio. I spent a lot of time there, and I was very impressed with it. That would have been my first choice if I hadn't found the other facility.

We didn't want to move into an apartment, we wanted to move into a house, and Brookdale Southside had exactly what we were looking for. They have the villas available, and then as we age or as we need care, we can move into another level of care. Also, you don't have to buy into it, unlike so many places where you have to buy in. Everything looked nice and clean and everybody was friendly whenever you drop by. It's just a nice place.

My mother is in the independent living of Brookdale Southside. All the people are very friendly, the people at the front desk are very helpful when she calls them for something. Their food has gone downhill since we first went to see whether we wanted her to go. It's a an old building, so the hallways are kind of dark, and my mother has a hard time seeing. They have a lot of activities available, and programs for people to get involved in. They have a pool, but I'm sure they're not letting anybody use it right now. They have a dining room, they have a nurse on staff if anybody wants one, and they have transportation to doctors' appointments or shopping trips.

My mom has moved into Brookdale Southside. The move-in experience is good. It was larger in size and more of a community feel, and it was very reasonably priced. The staff members are very nice. They have two or three specials for lunch and dinner along with a standard menu. The rooms are nice and large, and the facility is good. I don't really have any negative things to say about the facility. They have bingo, water aerobics, jazz aerobics, bridge, and movies.
The food is average. Unfortunately, because of COVID and the fact that people are making more money sitting at home, they're understaffed because of those challenges in the food department. The people that are there are working very hard because they're understaffed.

We went to Brookdale Southside. The price was great, but when we came to the building and we met the woman that took us around, as we walked there were big nicks in the doors. I said to her, "You know, a lot of these need some attention." She said, "Yeah, we had to get at that." We left with a kind of a displeasure. The home was OK, it wasn't the best, but again, you can do your own thing in it, but we felt that it's there, that negligence right now, and not coming up to snuff with their properties, even though they were full. I think the price is getting people to go there, but if I have someone visiting me, I'd feel a little embarrassed if the place wasn't kept up that well. I made some comment to the lady that took us around, and I don't know if there was some impact to what I said to her, if she followed through on that to tell anybody that was above her or not. The location was good. The staff was pretty nice; she was pretty good. They just didn't keep it up well enough.

Brookdale Southside was great, I liked all of it. I liked it because they had a washer and dryer in each unit. The rooms were very nice and very well maintained. I also liked the fact that it didn't smell like a nursing home, it was bright and airy, and it was very nice. The staff was very friendly.

My visit to Brookdale Southside was pretty good. The only thing I didn't like about it was the hallways, the corridors, and the rooms were really dark. Other than that, it was a beautiful facility and the rooms were really nice. Cathy was great. The rooms had a full kitchen. It was very homey.

I toured Brookdale Southside, but they did not have the apartment model that I needed available. They had very friendly staff, they showed us the facility which was wonderful, they're very informative, and I like that they have continuing care capability. The staff who gave the tour was very responsive to questions that we had. The rooms were well-maintained, and between people who live there, they refurbish the whole apartment before you move in. There's also a variety of different models and floor plans, which is good.

My tour of Brookdale Southside was very thorough. It's a great property with great amenities and good living options. It's at the top of my list right now for possibilities for my parents. The facility was good and moderate sized, not too big, not too small. The living options were great from a villa style to a good-sized apartment option. The people were very friendly and very personable. Because it was a little smaller, I got the sense that they knew their residents relatively well. Everyone seemed very happy there. It's very peaceful. They were doing a little farmer's market while we were there, doing bags of fruit and flowers, and arts and crafts. It was a very nice atmosphere.

We toured part of Brookdale Southside. We went there in person and talked with the sales lady about the unit, she took us by the pool, to the pool house, and we met in there and talked about it. The sales lady was real nice, friendly, everything was clean, and looked nice; we were very impressed. They have a nice area out there where you can have a party if it's your birthday or something, there's a big cooking area out by the pool, and a big outside kitchen. We looked at the floor plans and everything, and that's where we wanted to be.

We visited Brookdale Southside five years ago and they haven't changed too much except in price. My partner and I were impressed the first time. There was no place to store our tricycle, but I could make arrangements by getting a car cover. The apartment was very nice, and if we were on the first floor, we could have a patio. They had a walking area all around the facility. They didn't have a lot of places that you could garden, but they had villas where you can work the garden with the people that do the maintenance. They mow the lawn and make sure that the plants are being taken care of. Everything was good there. The staff was very pleasant and easy to work with.

Brookdale Southside is starting to remodel so it looks very nice. It's clean and the food is good. My grandparents' room is nice. The staff has been friendly. They have an art room and people playing cards.

My grandfather is in Brookdale Southside. It's spacious and they have a lot of activities for the seniors. I like the layout and the good room size. They have exercises, games, trivia, and bingo. They offer two meals a day with his program and he has to either pay for the third meal or just make it in his room. They have a swimming pool, a gym, a library, a computer room, there's paths outside to walk around, and little outdoor activities around the lake. The staff is very nice and helpful. They just have issues with their cellphone connections, which is my biggest deal with them. It's a clean facility.

The team has a customer service approach that is outstanding. With all the new buildings the experience of the team can be beat. T

On January 7th the residents of Brookdale were told the water supply would be turned off
for construction activities on January 10, 2016 at 9:00PM. After the water supply was
restored the residents were advised to boil their drinking and food prep water for a
minimum of one minute prior to using.
Brookdale Southside offered to sell bottled water to the residents for $12.00 but did not
stipulate what size the container would be.
The "all clear" to use water from the tap was given on January 14, 2015.
My concerns are multiple:
This is a private paying community for senior living. Brookdale Southside has seniors
in Independent living, assisted living and memory care. Independent living apartments
have their own kitchens. 4 days without drinking water is a long time for this age group.
This is a community of many levels of understanding and ability to communicate. Not
all residents are able to or do go to the mailroom on a daily basis to pick a paper notice
from management.
$12.00 for water? I purchased my mother several 2.5 gallon jugs from Publix for $2.75
each.
This is a population at higher risk for complications from coliform exposure than the
average population.
Since the water outage and ban on drinking the water was due to construction being
performed by Brookdale, Brookdale should have provided the water free of charge to all
residents.
The dining room used paper plates, plastic utensils and paper cups while the water was
being tested for potability. I am sure this was thought to be a convenience for the
residents but try cutting a institution cooked pork chop with a plastic knife.
Shame on you Brookdale for not taking the needs of your residents into consideration in
this construction. This was more than an inconvenience. It was disrespectful to your
residents to charge them for water (which granted they did not have to buy from you at
inflated prices but not all your residents drive or can carry boxes of water) and poor
communication on your part to make sure all residents were taken care of.

I liked that Carriage Club of Jacksonville provided independent, and then later on assisted living, and the activities that they have scheduled. My mother is in a two-bedroom apartment that is equipped with a full kitchen; it has a living room and a small dining area just off of the living room, an eating counter, and she also has a glass porch. The dining area is a full dining room; they offer lunch and dinner, but no breakfast. The facility is well-maintained. She gets a cleaning service once a week. The area itself has a full staff, and one director just for maintenance, so it is well-kept. They have a full-time nurse; she has made herself available to us in a matter of minutes when we call. The front desk is cordial; the management staff that we've been dealing with had been very, very helpful; and the general staff that is around, they make sure that they say hello to everybody. She would have picked another facility, but the key thing that drove her to pick this one was the full kitchen. You get thirty tickets a month for the meals and that is a negative. So, if you would eat lunch and dinner there, you would exhaust your tickets before the end of the month and then you would have to buy additional tickets, so it is unexpected expenditure for the residents.
