My mother moved into Shipley Manor, and I'm very pleased. The staff or the personnel they have working there is very good for her and have been polite and forthcoming with information on a daily basis. It's pricey. It is an expensive place, but I believe she has the care she's needs in there. I think that's pretty beneficial. She is in a private room, but she's in skilled nursing. Unfortunately, even before she had dementia really bad, as well as a hip replacement, she hasn't ever been a good eater. It's a hard judgment for her. She's not really able to let you know. She can tell you she dislikes something or likes something, but she's not that coherent. She's more on soft cereal, and things of that nature. Nutritional drinks and things like that, so she wouldn't be a good judge on how the food is there. They have a lot going on community wise as far as I know. They have a nice TV room. They do a lot of different crafts, and they take them outside. There's a lot to do. Unfortunately with her pretty extreme dementia, she is not able to participate in most of those functions. It is because of her actual condition, not that it's not offered. The facility itself, the location, the conditions, the cleanliness, the people, and the staff I feel is above adequate for sure. We're very happy with it at this point. The staff has been wonderful, and very communicative of the daily condition of my mother. We get to visit her twice a week. They're very helpful and knowledgeable. Considering the condition she's in, they're very outgoing and do very well with her.

I went to Shipley Manor. It was very depressing. When I walked in there's a main room, and you've got 40 people in wheelchairs, and they don't even know where they are sitting around the television. I find it, it's very upsetting to me. I had a friend in there and I went to the friend's room. It's pretty sad. The room of my friend was pretty much barebones, minimal, like a dorm room with one bed in it, there was a table, a television, and a bathroom. It's like a hospital room. There's an overall medicinal odor.

The physical and occupational therapy department of Shipley Manor was wonderful and very caring. That's really why my friend stayed even after her 100 days of support from the insurance company was up. The food has not only been terrific in terms of what is served, but also how it's served. The general friendliness of the place was really nice. They have two dining rooms with one area for people who need to be fed and the other for those who don't need assistance eating. They have a TV room, and there's a nice lady who entertains the residents with all sorts of activities daily.

My experiences with the assisted living facility have been well. Every family member that I've had go into assisted living has enjoyed their stays and been able to recuperate quickly. They've also been treated very well. I know that sometimes people can complain about the food they are served, my family members have always enjoyed the food and even ate there with my grandmother while she was there. The biggest downfall was that not every person had their own room, and if they did have their own room is was more costly for their families. I also didn't like that they forced the people who were staying there to eat, and they basically ran their lives. I think that while it was a nice place to stay after a while the people staying there want to leave. I feel it would be a better experience if they made the facility more homely, and made the customers feel more at home.
