The staff at Foulk Manor North is spectacular. When both of my parents got to the point that they required 24 hour care, Foulk Manor North walked me through this very difficult process with caring and compassion. This was not the only facility that I looked at, and I have never regretted choosing this facility. My parents, who require 24 hour complete care, are always well cared for and clean. I am always included in decision making, and am always kept well informed of any clinical changes no matter how small. They work with me to coordinate doctors appointments that are outside the facility. They also have an in-house physician and nurse practitioner, both of whom are excellent. The nurses are kind and caring. The Director of Nursing is engaged, available, and amazing. The social worker is amazing as are the Physical Therapists. I cannot possibly list all the positives. Everyone I have had the pleasure of meeting is top notch, friendly, and kind. When I visit, everyone says hello with a smile. I would highly recommend this facility if your loved one is in need of more care and assistance than you are capable of providing.

When I visited their long-term skilled nursing, it was absolutely beautiful. You would never have known it was a hospital-type facility. It was very lovely. When you went into their skilled nursing, you would have a semi-private room, but it was a very large room. They had 46 beds there, and I remember really liking the looks of it. There was a lot of wood, and there was carpeting, along with some tile floors. I recall going into where the common room was. They had the residents in there. They were being entertained. People were reading newspapers to them, so they were being stimulated. I saw several groups, so it wasn't like they had one big circle with just one person. There were several groups of residents doing different things. I thought they were very well-staffed. It was, by far, the nicest skilled nursing facility I had seen.

The facilities were extremely beautiful and well kept, including several out door pathways through gardens. The staff present was all very friendly and helpful. They took the time to explain to the younger kids why homes like these are necessary because they could tell this was a first time experience for most of the children. The staff always addressed the residents very respectfully and patiently. At one point during the visit we approached a room where an elderly gentlemen refused to come out and talk with the kids. At that I just assumed we would move on and let it slide because we had no right to force this man to talk to the kids. One of the nurses (I believe she was a nurse) leading us around however had other ideas. She walked into the room and gently explained what the kids were there for and why he should come talk to them. She persuaded him without using any sort of aggression or impatience or annoyance. That one part of the day summed up the whole experience for me. The nurses there knew what they were doing and took the time to do it right. They were exemplary people and just the kind of staff I wanted to expose the children to. From these employees the young group learned what true care meant and then the importance of the care through the reactions of the residents. This nursing home was better than any other I had seen or heard of.

The facility is very well kept and all the areas are cleaned daily. This helps add to the appeal of the facility. The nurses and physical therapy staff are all very helpful and do a good job at what they do. They help my grandmother create a plan which was adjusted as progress was made. The staff do a good job of checking in on the patient as they have checked on my grandmother almost every time I was there to visit. Also after talking to my grandmother they check on her in the middle of the night in the event that she has fallen or needed to use the bathroom. Unlike of facilites I have been to it seems like the staff actually want to help my grandmother and are always very friendly to me and my family. The only negative of this facility seems to be the food that is provided. My grandmother does not enjoy the food but it will get the job done when your hungry.

While the actual facility was nice, the patients seemed very demotivated and "hum-drum". I had a chance to talk with a few of the patients and they expressed a lot of concearn with the fact that a lot of the nurses ignored their needs because they either A. did not understand the request because they spoke little to no english and B. did not care because they figured the elderly patient would just forget about it. It was very eye-opening to see how residents are actually being treated. Again, aesthetically, the place was very beautiful but after hearing complaints from some of the residents I chose not to take the position.
