My parents moved to Essex Meadows 6 years ago. The buildings and grounds are beautiful and well cared for. My parents apartment is light, airy and big. I have been very impressed with the food in both the main dining room and pub. Even the meals that are delivered to your door are wonderful. The staff is caring and very attentive. Highly recommend Essex Meadows!

Essex Meadows is a great place to live. I have been here almost six years, and it has exceeded my expectations. It is a very friendly and well managed community. The relationship between the employees, staff and residents is special. The move to Essex Meadows is a real gift to my children since they know that I am in a safe, secure environment.

I came to Essex Meadows 7 years ago from a home that my husband and I built and loved very much. But, we also aged along with our home, and maintenance became less of a joy and more of a chore. After moving, we never looked back! Sadly my husband passed away two years ago. I found that I feel safe, secure and supported by the good friends we had made. With fine friends and plentiful activities, I feel blessed to be here.

I've been living here a year and really love it. My apartment is roomy and light-filled. The staff have all been friendly and responsive to my needs. I am still an active member of the surrounding communities, but I am also happy with activities I enjoy here on campus like exercise classes, current event lectures and games. Pets are welcome which helped my decision greatly. I am thankful my health needs will be taken care of as I age.

We have lived here for over 12 years in a free standing cottage. The location (between Boston and New York City) was a big factor for us. We also liked the proximity to a very pleasant small town and all the acreage around Essex Meadows, with gardens, woods, trails and ponds. We wanted a place that had a skilled nursing facility on the premises in case we ever needed it, which we have. There are lots of activities, both physical and intellectually stimulating. My husband uses the gym and I use the pool. We both go to concerts and lectures and particularly the current events discussions. We have reached the stage where my husband needs some help and an aide comes morning and evening to help him get dressed and ready for bed, which is a great help for me. The food is good, too!

EM is a lovely facility for those in independent living. Not so true for assisted living or nursing home. My mother developed severe memory loss following anesthesia for minor surgery. EM is unprepared for dementia care. They gave my mother drugs to quiet her, but her later physician said that these make dementia worse. In spite of having paid for life care, I had to move my mother out of EM to get quality care. I met another resident who had moved his wife out for the same reason. EM can be a costly risk.

Essex Meadows is an excellent facility. They always kept myself and mu sister appraised of my mother's condition and provided excellent care. My mother was not that easyt to deal with in terms of therapy and they displayed tremendous patience.

Our family has had the most wonderful experience at the EM Health Center! My 89 year old father was fortunate enough to get a room there and exceptional care after a bout with pneumonia. He was unable to walk, extremely weak, and there was little we could do to help him. The staff was amazing: kind, professional, caring and cheerful. The PT gals amazing. They had my Dad walking down the corridor unassisted in a week. They had him playing games with other residents. Wow! He has been discharged and we couldn’t be more grateful! The Joffray’s.

You will pay an initial purchase price at Essex Meadows and then pay monthly. The staff and the people we met, the general appearance, and maintenance of the facility were all nice.

This is a lovely facility to independent living. It becomes questionable for assisted living. My father needed to move to the nursing facility, and although he had paid for continuing care, I removed him from Essex Meadows due to poor care. He was given anti-psychotic drugs when he had no condition for which this was proper medication. My sense is that many in the nursing home were drugged into silence. Many were calling for help and no one responded for too long. Those with Alzheimer's seemed especially neglected.

Essex Meadows was beautiful. It was comfortable when it comes to amenities. They had a fitness center. They had art classes, lectures and a book club. They had movies and they go on trips. The rooms were large enough. The staff was accommodating and the food was excellent.
