We had a really thorough tour of Valle Verde. I would've moved in that week. I loved it. We looked at independent living. It was a beautiful community. It was winding streets and in the center of all of it were their community facilities, the pool, the dining, the mailboxes, the theater, activities, all of that sort of thing. I got to see a lot of that. We got to spend time inside one of the units because we were actually met by very, very old friends of my husband, who he hasn't seen for decades. We connected up with them and found they were living there. They gave us an hour and a half tour all over the property. They have orchards. They have fruit trees growing all over. You can have your own vegetable garden. It was absolutely lovely. It's very low rise and just very kind of organic. Some of the units are newer and some are older. We visited one of the older units that our friends live in. It's more compact than some, but we enjoyed how they made it work. They have two patios: a front and a back patio. We were impressed with all of the amenities. I wish the pool was bigger; but for what I need to do, the pool's fine. They talked about the food that was offered and how it was handled. Everything about it sounded just fabulous. We came away with fresh oranges from a street tree in our friends' community. She introduced us to some of the staff and told us about how helpful they'd been about arranging for some accommodations for their family who's coming to visit soon. The only reason that we might not have just said this is the one is because that's it's Santa Barbara. None of our family lives there. There are not that many people who live there that we know. We still wanted to see it though, so we knew what the options were. I loved it. Everything about it was neat. The newer buildings that they've built were so lovely on the outside. They looked like a nice resort. Our friend was so happy to be living there during her illness because of the things that were brought to them and the help that they received during COVID while she was ill. She said it couldn't have been better. She can't imagine having gone through that in their other house. The staff was there to help them in every way possible. She said they were amazing. They showed me the woodshop and an art studio. It's all great. I would have so much fun there.

We’ve been at Valle Verde for over four years. When people ask how we like it, our answer is “it’s the second best decision we ever made, second only to getting married 50 years ago.” The staff is superb - responsive, receptive, knowledgeable and friendly. The food is varied, with many choices. Yes, wine is available - by the glass or bottle. And many flavors of ice cream! Activities on campus are so numerous that it takes a multi-page weekly program to list them all! Off-campus activities (symphony, music academy, legitimate theater, etc.) are encouraged by Valle Verde’s busses going each way. Come check it out! I’ll bet you’ll want to join us. We look forward to meeting you!

My husband, our 11-year-old therapy dog and I moved to Valle Verde 3 years ago. Although we had not planned to move to a retirement community this soon, we were offered one of Valle Verde's new two-bedroom cottages and we just couldn't refuse. It was one of the best decisions we have ever made. The setting is lovely-- one story residences set on 65 acres -all within walking distance to the dining rooms (2), swimming pool and jacuzzi, exercise room AND to your neighbors. We have met several new neighbors (now friends) and often share a glass of wine with them in our home or theirs before going to dinner. We cook only when we want to, so we have plenty of time to go to community events (symphony, live theatre, movies) without feeling pressured. The entire Valle Verde staff is very supportive - when we suggested that our dogs needed a place to run off-leash, our executive director helped us build a dog park. Our life at Valle Verde is stress-free: no maintenance repairs, no cleaning, gardening only when we want to (there is even a gorgeous rose garden and mosaic garden for serious gardening residents). There are so many activities offered to us that it's hard keep up with them all, although some residents do try! I spent 10 days each in Valle Verde's skilled nursing on two separate occasions following hip replacement surgery in 2016. The care I got from both the nursing staff and physical therapists was outstanding. Equally-- possibly even more important--was the care that the nursing staff gave to those who were probably going to spend the rest of their lives in skilled nursing. I still get a lump in my throat when I think of the kindness the nursing staff showed these residents 24/7! Valle Verde's entire nursing staff--at all levels--are the unsung heroes of the medical world. We love our life at Valle Verde! Do come visit!

Valle Verde was very beautiful. It cost just about $100,000 just to buy-in. I saw the dining area. It was a large area, and it was very nice. The staff accommodated me very nicely.

We checked out most of the CCRC's on the west coast and decided that Valle Verde had everything we wanted. l We have lived here for 11/2 yrs. and couldn't be happier. Our home was part of the new construction and has 2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, full kitchen, laundry, computer room, living/dining room and garage with a lovely patio. Valle Verde's charm is that the units are all one story and the landscaping is gorgeous. Our food is delicious and is served by a wait staff of mainly college students from UCSB and City College. We have found the people here to be welcoming and many have extraordinary backgrounds so meals are very interesting. Wine is also served with dinner if desired. We introduced Pickle Ball here and there are so many other sports and activities to do or not do as one chooses. Our dog is waiting eagerly for the off leash dog park which will open soon. Life is good !

Valle Verde was a very large facility, and most of the people had their own cottages, then you park your car in front of the cottage. They were very small, which is what I couldn't get used to. All of them were tiny places -- 700 square feet for two people -- so tiny that when you put your furniture in there, there's no room to move around. On the whole, it was very nice, but I didn't like the buy-in where you give them $175,000 and then you pay monthly. We drove around in a little cart, and a lady showed us the apartments.

We have lived at Valle Verde for about a year. We expected to be happy here, but we have been ecstatic. How to describe it? The homes are garden apartments, all on one floor, with lush mature landscaping. The residents are outstanding - a number of professors, teachers and doctors which guarantees interesting conversations at dinner. The food is outstanding with open seating, wine with dinner, and multiple choices from an excellent menu. Dress is "California casual" - no jackets needed! Health care is excellent - skilled nursing for post-op care or longer term care, assisted living for those that need more help, an excellent memory care unit, and a number of different independent living arrangements. The staff is, to a person, knowledgeable, responsive, and caring. What more could one want?

My husband and I moved to Valle Verde eight months ago. We based our decision, in part, on the fact that, contrary to other Yelp reviews, Valle Verde has an excellent reputation in the community. We can support that statement wholeheartedly because my mother was a 20 year resident here and we had an opportunity to observe first-hand the level of caring and comfort she received in her years here. In addition, we decided on Valle Verde because of its resident’s diversity and inclusiveness, its garden like collection of cottages and the assurance that we would be appropriately cared for in our last years. The most immediate benefit was the freedom from the responsibilities associated with home ownership and with that came a sense of certainty about the future. Some of the previous reviews were written based on conditions which have since changed – there is new leadership in the administration, open to resident input, an excellent sales and marketing team and a superb support staff that provides needed services. Of course there are complaints, as there are in any connected community, but it appears to me that those are being appropriately addressed by the organization. If you are considering a continuing care residence, I would certainly consider Valle Verde. For us it was the obvious choice.

Valle Verde was nice. They showed the rooms to us. They’re very nice as well. They’re big enough for us. They had quite a few of different activities. We didn’t get to do them all because we weren’t there very long, but they have quite a few good ones. The staff was very accommodating. The services and amenities were nice as well. They had a gym, a pool, and different places to eat. They would take you on tours to different places if you wanted to go.
