We live in a senior residence where we have a lot of things that are very helpful to us, like valet service, dining room, and housekeeping. We have a lot of these good stuff here, but we don’t have assisted living. They’ll drive you to your doctor. So right now, this serves our purpose. The name of the place is Pacific Regent (Pacific Regent La Jolla). It’s excellent. They have activities. They have a very small gym. They have a treadmill and a bicycle, but that’s it. They do have exercise classes, yoga, aquarobics there, but there is no lifeguard, so if somebody was there alone and had a cramp, they could be in trouble. I would rate that rather low. We have an apartment. You buy it, and you own this place, which is good. This is one of the things that have attracted us. We own this apartment, and we pay for all the things that we use, like a monthly bill. The people here are on a very high intellectual level.

I’ve been living in the Pacific Regent for a month and a half. The living conditions are nice, and the food is terrific. The dining room, however, has reserved sitting. It’s cliquish, and there is no open sitting at all. The rules are asinine. You cannot go to the dining room if you are wearing pants. The average age here is 90, and I’m 73. There are not as many activities as the others I’ve looked into. There’s no real kindness here in the staff.

The Pacific Regent La Jolla was the most beautiful facility that I have ever visited in my caregiving career. They had an indoor fountain for the clients to enjoy, a piano room, and apartment rooms that had 1-3 bedrooms each. Although I'm sure it was a bit pricey and probably not covered by insurance, this would definitely be a place to spend saved-up retirement funds. The inside and outside of the building look nothing like any type of elderly-care facility that I have ever seen. They had a beauty parlor on-site, a pool, a game room, and a garden that my client visited often. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone in the San Diego area.

I work at a church that is mainly comprised of an older generation, so I have often visit a number of retirement communities. I have to say that I was extremely impressed with the quality of the staff members and the quality of the facility itself at Pacific Regent La Jolla. Senior residents are spoken to as adults, with respect, not spoken to as children. Those that need close attention are given the care that they require. Overall, this facility is a great place that fosters to the needs of each resident individually.
