Serenity Gardens is wonderful. My mom is still adjusting, but everything is fine. Her room is very clean. The staff members are wonderful. The dining area is very nice. They have good food. They have a couple of TV rooms, a couple of dining rooms, and a nice outside space to sit. It is very well run.

Serenity Gardens was an older facility and a family was running it. Sons, mother-in-laws, and father-in-laws were cooking. There were two generations of people running it. They seemed to be very caring people. The residents were mostly in the recreation room and I saw their outside garden areas. It's a huge building. They had very nice people and they were all very busy doing their thing. The grandparents of the people running the place were in the kitchen preparing meals and getting ready for lunch. I had to stand outside and wait for them to let me in because they were busy, and there's no way you can come in and out of that place without somebody watching you. What I saw downstairs was very nicely maintained. It's probably a 70-year-old structure and it was still very clean. I walked through a television room and there were some people playing cards and checkers. They all seemed very nice.

Serenity Gardens is the one we ended up choosing for my mom. The people who owned it bought it about two years ago, so they are still in the early stages of owning this building and the community. They are still trying to fix it up, so the building is a little on the older side. We picked it because it is privately owned, and we were very drawn to the way that the staff cares for the residents. There is nothing as far as amenities to speak of. It is more geared toward memory care and keeping people safe from wandering off. The staff is fabulous, and we were amazed watching how they care for the residents. There are two people to a room, and they have separate shower facilities where the staff can help everybody shower. It has a fenced area with a code, so you can get through the gate; that way the residents can go outside and be safe right there in their environment. It is wonderful and has good food, like home cooking. It's not gourmet, but it is definitely high-quality food and all the meals are served simply. I think it is an environment that the residents are comfortable in. The only reason I give it a 4 is because the building is older, so it is not nearly as impressive as others. However, it is not inadequate. The price is cheaper, but we knew that she was going to get the care she needed. They have an activity director, and they try to do body, mind, and spirit activities every day. They are very engaged with the residents.
