Description

About This Community

The moment you set foot on our 32-acre campus you’ll see why Westminster Gardens earned its name. Showcasing the area’s scenic natural beauty, our community boasts more than 2,000 rosebushes along landscaped walking paths that meander through the hundreds of fruit trees growing on our property. But don’t let our semi-rural feel fool you; we are centrally located on historic Route 66 with easy access to all of Los Angeles County.

Westminster Gardens is owned and managed by HumanGood, a nonprofit public benefit corporation serving older adults since 1949.

Featured Amenities

Offering a variety of living options to help you balance both your budget and your desired lifestyle, our accommodations come in a selection of studio, suite, one-bedroom and two-bedroom layouts. All homes are pet friendly and feature ample storage space, carpet and private bathrooms. Select units also include full kitchens and in-unit laundry facilities.

When not relaxing in the privacy of your home, mingle with your neighbors at one of our many scheduled community activities and events. Historically, many of our residents have been retired Presbyterian ministers and missionaries, but now we are home to a diverse mix of seniors from all professions, cultures and faiths.

Available Services

Westminster Gardens offers a range of senior living options from independent living to assisted living to Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Our professional staff is available to assist residents as needed with life’s daily activities, such as dressing, bathing and grooming, as well as provide specialized memory care, such as mood-enhancing therapy or skill-building activities.

For added comfort and convenience, we also take care of the landscaping, facility maintenance, scheduled local transportation and meal service. Our in-house chefs excel at turning healthy ingredients into tasty cuisine, and you are welcome to join us for all three meals a day or choose a more flexible meal plan.

At Westminster Gardens, we blend the best of both worlds: a lush, natural woodland within easy driving distance of some of the world’s finest cultural attractions.

We loved Westminster Gardens. The lady we spoke to was amazing, very helpful, had lots of suggestions, and had clearly been through this with families many times before. Although it's a little pricey, we want something that we think would make our mother happy, and we think it's an ideal place. As far as the facility goes, I'd be tempted to go ahead without even looking at any others. The layout was good and all on one level. The studio had an alcove for a regular-sized bed, and the bathroom was adjacent to the bed. There's a living room area, and you can bring some furniture. It was not a separate bedroom, but it was very nice. What we really liked was the dining area because it was decorated in a way that my mom decorates her house. They had activities, a little patio area off the rooms, and a little gardening area, which my mom likes. They had a memory facility on-site. There were always alternatives if they don't like what's on the menu, which had a lot of choices. The head chef was Cordon Bleu-trained.

Westminster Gardens is a really lovely place. It's quite an oasis of beautiful grounds and trees, lovely small homes with various shapes, a big recreation area, and some nice facilities for everybody for activities. The people there are really wonderful. The staff member, Bernadette, is such an incredibly helpful and thoughtful person. We had lunch with some of the residents and it was lovely.

Westminster is on a large piece of land. It has a dog park, a swimming pool, and also a workout room. All the units are in one story, so there are no elevators or stairs to climb. When you walk out your door, there's a little patio and grass. It's very homey. Their kitchen has gluten-free food and their dietician is right on top of that. They even have a place in their kitchen to prepare the gluten-free food so it won't get cross-contaminated. The dietician was smart, knew what she was doing, and how to please the seniors. They also have enough activities and outside activities to do. The units have their own small kitchen or a large one if you wish. They serve 1 meal and I can also fix their own food. The community has transportation or I can opt to drive myself to the doctor. They have everything else other centers have. The staff that I have met are confident and nice.

Westminster Gardens was fine, but the food was really bad. It was less homestyle cooking and not even as good as the home barbecue. They definitely need to change their chef. The people in the memory care had to walk out of the gate to have lunch or dinner with other people, and it's not safe at all. They charge for every care they provide. The only good thing is it's in a big lot. I did not see any activities. The facility is good for independent living.

We loved Westminster Gardens. It’s got individual cottages with a lot of beautiful grounds around them. It’s not apartment living or high rise. We just liked the feel of it. It feels like in a neighborhood rather than an old person’s home. Bernadette -- the staff who took us on the tour -- was very lovely, engaging, and very kind, and she is fun to be with. We really like Bernadette a lot. They took us to lunch, and we ate with the couple of the residents and we had a very good time and a very good meal. They have a swimming pool, organized games, and trips.

Westminster Gardens is a well-run, beautiful, healthy community in which to retire. It lies at the foot of the mountains, and is a former estate whose grounds now boast many trees and park in which to walk. The variety of residences and levels of care meet a variety of needs. Our cottage provides ample space for all our needs. We knew this before we moved in. But we could not have anticipated the delightful variety of residents who are now our neighbors, and the healthy sense of community that we now enjoy. There is a range of activities designed to promote healthy aging, including a tennis court, swimming pool, fitness center, and staff to advise on keeping or getting physically fit. There are concerts, social gatherings, and worship services. The staff is professionally competent and enjoys a good relationship with the residents. We are grateful to be here.

At Westminster Gardens, they have very nice apartments and lots of space. There are just many wonderful things about it, but it just generally feels a little drab. The dining area is more like a cafeteria-type of thing, so it looks a little drab. But other than that, as I say, the living part is wonderful. The staff seems very pleasant. I tried their food, and it was very accessible but nothing exciting.

A couple of months ago I did visit Westminster which I really liked. I thought it was fantastic, and I loved it, but I'm not making the decision. It has to be my mom's decision, and unfortunately she is not ready to do that. Their grounds were beautiful. It looks like you were out in a forest with walking paths and streams. It was like you were totally away from the city, and it was very beautiful. The cafeteria was great, and the food looked great. I went there while they were serving lunch. The food looked good, and it was a very nice area. They have everything from houses to where you needed more care, more of a building type atmosphere with rooms. The gal that took me through was wonderful. She showed me everything, and I was very impressed. Some of them were actually houses, and she even showed me some of those. They are like houses with garages. Another where they needed more care was more like separate living. If you walk down the hall, there will be separate living areas, and it seemed nice enough.

Westminster Gardens has full kitchens. They completely redo it for you to your specifications before you move in, with all new appliances, new carpet, and paint. You live independently in a ranch style home. You're not in a tower where there are elevators and other people living with you. Beautiful lawns and gardens, private patio, a lot of things. The staff is so friendly. The residents decide on all the activities, but they have lecturers coming in. They have films; they have tennis. They have different kinds of aerobic activities. They have a pool; they have a library. You can have one meal a day in their restaurant, very tasty. We've been to other places where the food is very bland, like nobody can salt and pepper it or spice it up. This food was just delicious. We're not ready to move in, but this is the place we've decided upon.
