My mother stayed at Devonshire Care Center for 3 weeks, for rehab. It was loud, and very much had a hospital feel. Some of the staff was really great, especially the physical therapy and occupational therapy, but some of the assistance left something to be desired. The food provided to my mom was okay, semi-balanced, but very basic cafeteria like food.

My dad is currently there. The staff have treated my dad like crap. Brought him in a potty to use that had feces on it. Wont call his doctor to get the catheter removed, lost his medical card about the mesh and wires inside him and will only help him walk once a day. My mom called me crying. I live out of state so I cannot get to them. This place needs shut down!!!

I and my family have witnessed the way that they care for the patients. When you see a human being sitting on a diaper overnight and seeing him worse than a two year old child, it doesn't say anything good about it. That is my stress emotionally. My dad was sent there in December, and I have been there pretty much every day. Now I had to just not go every day because emotionally it is horrible. I can't do anything for my dad. I go at night and let them know what I want and what they have to do. I'm the one who does his laundry. They don't bathe the people. It is an old building with taxes and everything that we pay. Those facilities should not be running like that. Because it is an old facility, it needs a lot of care. You go to the bathroom, and the trashcan is full. It should not be run like that simply because people don't have money. They are not animals.

When I visited this facility, I found that they were understaffed. The CNAs were taking on too many tasks at one time, and were not able to give their patients quality care. I asked one CNA how many patients she had that evening and she said she averaged 12-15 a night. She appeared to be overwhelmed by the tasks at hand, but she didn't stop. She was giving her patients the best care she could. I asked her how long she had been a CNA and she told me that she had just finished school, so the lack of experience could have attributed to her stress level and the amount of time it took for her to complete a task. The facility looked and smelled clean. The patients seemed to be happy with the nursing staff and the care they were receiving. My friend's mother and father loved their nurse and had no complaints. Patients didn't normally have private rooms, but my friend's parents were in a room together, all the other rooms were all men or all women. Most of them were only two patients to a room, but some rooms had three patients per room. If my family member needed to be placed in an assisted living facility, I would look to this facility as a strong possibility.
