Carlton Senior Living Elk Grove was very impressive. It felt very much upper scale like we were on a cruise ship. There were a lot of activities going on inside and it's a much newer facility. They had a live band when we were there and they were celebrating a birthday. The staff during the tour was very helpful. It's a little bit higher with the cost, but the facility was very nice. We ate there and the food was excellent.

Carlton Senior Living Elk Grove was very nice. They were very helpful, answered questions, asked questions about my situation, and listened. They showed me a couple of rooms and explained how the process worked if residents need more care and graduate to a different area, which is the memory care. I would have put Mom there if she was a candidate for that, but she's not. It had a laundry area, where you can do on your own, but you can pay for help.

We lived in the Carlton for almost 5 years, nad the seniors themselves impressed me, but they need more people to come in and do activities so they won't be left with nothing to do. They need volunteers to come in. The building was wonderful, the restaurant was very nice, and it had a lot of hardworking young people. It's very expensive, but they do offer a lot of amenities which can average out to what it would cost, and if we need any help, we are charged extra. I loved the place, we had everything, and we did not need to leave the building and go anywhere, but the price goes up every year.

Carlton Senior Living Elk Grove is a large facility. The facility looked excellent in terms of the room options, the cleanliness, and the general level of care. Everybody was very good. I accompanied one person to the dining area and everything was great. The dining area was clean. They offered good food, good variety, and good service. This facility, as well as probably others, was following a fire regulation that the doors to the rooms need to be closed. This was in the memory unit, and that struck me as potentially dangerous.

Carlton Plaza Elk Grove has beautiful facilities and wonderful staff. When the staff walked us around, they know everybody’s names. My mom will be moving there soon. The community is only a year or two old. It has a lot more facilities -- theaters, a beautiful library, really-nice facilities. It has beautiful grounds, with a big, giant, interior courtyard. They have garden classes and art classes, Happy Hour, and wonderful social activities for people. A lot of people live there. They are not even really assisted living. They just really enjoy it there and move in because they want to eat meals with these people and do all the social events. The apartments are beautiful and new and clean. Everyone was so friendly.

We went to Carlton Plaza Elk Grove, and we like that. I thought it was a really good facility. The problem was that our mom was not that outgoing, and I thought it could be better for someone who could utilize the services a little better. However, I was impressed, and they did a great job. We met with the staff, and there was another person representing Carlton who went around with us. We looked at the various activities that they had and the philosophy in running the place. It seemed like it had modern facilities and activities. Somebody who needed assisted living but who was also somewhat independent could really utilize that. They had a happy hour, and they had musical stuff going on. They had lots of activities. The rooms were nice. It was modern facility and almost brand new.

My mom already finds a place. It is Carlton Plaza of Elk Grove. It is a newer and smaller place. She likes the wide hallways. She moves in today. It is OK. I think it is more of an old folks home, quite frankly, and it was expensive.

We visited Carlton Plaza for my mom. I think I would give this one a very high rating. They seemed to have everything that we were looking for. We want something we could transition my mother from independent to assisted living. They also offered her not to have to move out her room, and she could stay in the same room and still transition, which was really important to us. The dining hall was exceptional. It was like sitting down in a restaurant. I had been in other facilities before just to visit, and I’ve never seen a dining hall nearly as nice as this one; that impressed me a lot. The staff was all friendly and helpful. They mixed very well with their clients. They did have quite a few lists that they offer. We did attend what they call a happy hour which was like a social hour where they had music. My mom did attend that and enjoyed it.

I visited Carlton Plaza. The environment was very good. All of the amenities were wonderful. The staff was very accommodating. The residents that spoke to me spoke highly of it, and I thought they were prompted to do that, but as I looked around and looked at other people, they looked kind of bored.

I visited Carlton Plaza for my brother who's a veteran because he needed an assisted living. They had a spot for him. The only thing was that they need $3,200-$3,300 a month, so he didn't qualify. However, it was very nice and the people were very polite. All the rooms were nicely prepared. They had an exercise room and other places where you could sit down and read magazines and books. There's a place where you could watch television. They had a restaurant facility that was open 24-hours a day, where you could come and eat. They had a menu where you could select on. They even had a bus that would pick you up, take you shopping, and bring you back. The security was very good because if you tried to back out, an alarm would go off. When you were going in, there's also an alarm that would go out it would mean that there's someone there. Everything in the facility was top rated. They're number one.

Carlton Plaza is very clean. The community is new. It is only a couple of years old. There is no urine smell -- not even in the memory care. The people that are staying there look happy and content. Also, all of the employees are attentive. They are very caring. You can tell that they truly care about older people. My mother's room is not really spacious. It is just a one bedroom with a living room, a little kitchenette, and a large bathroom. The plus is that it is very nice. The dining room is nice as well. They are working on a potential for a new chef. I would say that their food is good. They provide small portions, but that is good for my mother. They are working on that as well to make it a larger portion for people who need it. The dining room is open from six in the morning until six at night. The residents can go in and get something to eat during those hours. They serve meals three times a day. If you want to go and eat in between the meal time, you can, and you can order a la carte.

the Carlton is a beautiful facility with a hotel feel. My mother was a memory care resident for 1 month. The memory care staff are not experienced in handling persons with dementia. My mother had several falls/ER visits in just 1 month. I moved her for safety reasons. Investigate closely before choosing this facility.
