Brookdale Danville was nice. The people I met were very caring and followed up with me. I actually have a friend whose grandmother is there, and I think that they have a good staff-to-resident ratio. The facility was very clean, very pretty, and small, which is kind of nice. They had an outdoor courtyard, which is nice. It’s a newer facility and very pretty.

My mother is in Brookdale Danville (formerly Emeritus at Barrington Court). There's a lack of orientation between me and the staff, and I'm having the same clothing problem I had at skilled nursing, but we're trying to work it out. She's happy there though. They're very pleasant and the food is good. It was a little bit of a rough start. We should've had some orientation with the staff member about her clothing and her needs. Everything was done on paper and it wasn't transferred to people that needed that information. They keep them out all day long from the room, so they're not room-bound at all. Their attitude is good, and they're very patient with them. It's a memory center, so it's a tough road to go. She has been there for three weeks now.

Brookdale was a lovely place. My dad loved it very much. They had great people. The food was nice. They had great services. They catered to him. Everything was really good there. The staff that assisted us was very caring. They really listened to his needs. They were very kind and sweet to him. The rooms were clean and very well done. It was nicely decorated. They knew he was going into it for a month, and they would have it decorated for him.
The facility was beautiful. It had a beautiful garden. The apartment that he would have been in was perfect. It had a small kitchen, a nice bedroom, and a great bathroom, and it was like he was at home. It was very clean and comfortable. Because it was an Alzheimer's facility, they were mostly watching TV or walking to the gardens. They said that they had some chair exercises, but we didn't witness any of that. They had absolutely fabulous security. The door was locked, and you had to go through two doors to get out. We had lunch there, and the food was fine. I thought that the dining area was very bland. It looked like a cafeteria. I thought they could make it more inviting. However, it was a lovely facility.

Originally, I was very pleased with this facility, but came to realize that while the caregiving staff is wonderful, the administration is sorely lacking. The director was completely unreachable by phone..never took calls, never returned calls. At one point I went to see my mom and she had been moved to another shared room where her roommate had her own furniture...In the crowded space was the roommate's double bed, dresser, night stands, 2 chairs and tv. The put a twin bed in a tiny alcove for my mom. No nightstand, no lamp, no place for a chair. They moved my mom from her previous very nice shared room, where she had her own belongings, because her roommate was constantly waking her up at night. Maybe they should have moved the roommate instead! Her clothing was constantly lost, and someone else's was in its place, even though ALL of her clothing had her name written in it.. I eventually moved her to another facility.

During my visit to Emeritus, I saw that the staff working there was absolutely outstanding. They really reached out to me. They gave me a tour and explained everything that was going on in the facility. Emeritus was specifically the facility where my father can move in. I liked the facility, but it would have been restricting for my mother. However, they offered some alternatives for her. They said that they would consolidate assisted living down the road for her to have social interaction with people. I thought that it was extraordinary.

Emeritus at Barrington Court is top-notch; I would highly recommend them. Where we visited, it was all memory care. I asked a lot of questions, and my husband and I had a wonderful tour. A full tour as well as seeing the room where he could be placed if we selected them. Their director was outstanding to us without a doubt; the most outstanding, helpful person I have ever encountered, and I've visited several places. She answered questions readily, no hesitation, happy to do so, good-natured. We had lunch, which was delicious, and then they had a luau, so we had some wonderful luau food. They do parties for the family, and that happened to be the party for Father's Day. I really was hopeful to have my husband go there, but in our case, the finances were restricted. The rooms were fine; they were light, sunny, and happy places. They weren't dull and dark and dingy and sad. I have my own checklist of what I was looking for in these places and they met all those; they got high marks in all these areas. The rooms were roomy enough. There were plenty of lights and windows, so everything was accessible. I think their prices were reasonable. We went there twice, once to tour, and then we were invited back another day to attend a luau, which we did. So twice we visited, and we had the chance to interact with some of the residents, which was wonderful.

The facilities are of a very high standard, everything is clean and tidy and the maintenance is pretty good. The health services and assistance there varies from person to person but I found that it's of the highest possible quality, available at any time day or night and the staff genuinely care for the people that stay there.I'm really happy with the actual living spaces for the residents - there's a proper sense of independence whilst providing a needed monitoring and assistance very close by at all times.I think the visitor parking isn't anything special but that's a small complaint.

The facility is kept very clean. My mother is difficult to work with but the staff manages her negativity with cheerful kindness. Unlike a previous nursing home, here she changes her clothes daily and is encouraged to walk instead of always using a wheelchair. I have been impressed with the positive atmosphere here.
