I'm at Peninsula Del Rey. They have a studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. All appliances are in the units. They have a refrigerator, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and a regular full kitchen. The staff members are good and they're trying hard, but there's not enough of them and that's the problem. For nursing care, it's three meals. For independent living, it's two meals. The food is horrible. They have bingo, blackjack, Sunday concerts, and watercolor beads making. The activities are OK. They have a jacuzzi, but it is not open for use. It looks beautiful, but we're not allowed to use it. They have a nice courtyard, which I've been in once two days ago when they had a dog show. Otherwise, it's just too cold to sit there. It is right next to the fog belt, so it is colder here. They don't do anything for you here unless you come in as not as independent. They have a washer and dryer in each unit and that's a nice feature to have.

I toured Peninsula Del Rey. I like the clientele and the location, there wasn't anything I dislike. One of the staff took us around, she was very knowledgeable about the place. We saw the 2-bedroom there, they're adequate for our age. The units are 1600 square feet. We saw the dining area, it was not cafeteria style. They have a nice layout for their grounds, when we got there people were sitting around. There were a few activities going on.

My mom will be moving into Peninsula Del Rey in a couple of weeks. I like the building and the facility. It has a nice feel to it. The architecture is nice. It allows a lot of natural light. The common areas are nice, but broken up into smaller common areas, so it's not just one big room, which I like. There's a fireplace and areas for conversation. All of the staff that I've met have been very helpful, very nice, and not phony. Everyone that I saw who was living there looked relatively happy and there seemed like a nice sense of community. The location was the primary reason that got me interested in it. I wanted my mom to be within no more than a 15- or 20-minute drive from where I live, so I started first and foremost with places that fit that criterion. There's a concierge doctor that's available there, so my mom doesn't have to go offsite for regular doctor visits or urgent care. That was also a definite plus as well.
Because she is limited in her ability to travel, she's not been able to go on tour, so they were very helpful in allowing me to take photos and having Zoom meetings with her, and making her feel comfortable. I imagine that would be very scary to think about moving and not ever going to the place where you're going to move, and they helped her with that. So I appreciated that.
My mom would be moving for independent living. We thought at first she would need assisted living, but she had a couple of assessments and they all agreed that for now, independent living is fine. Because I was assuming it would be assisted living, when I went to the facility and saw some examples of assisted living, I realized that my mom didn't need that yet, so that was also good. It means we're going to be able to save some money, which is good. We didn't want to save the money at her expense, but as long as she can still do some of those things for herself, she'll be able to save some money. If she does have to switch to assisted living, she would be able to move to a different room there, and it wouldn't be like having to go to a different place, so that very much appeals to her. The staff has been great, too.

My impression of Peninsula Del Rey is that it's very friendly and very open. The apartment was exceptionally clean and very efficient with lots of kitchen cabinets. The person who accommodated me during my tour was phenomenal. She was extremely detail oriented and was following up all the time to make sure that everything was okay. They have a beauty shop, a computer room, a library, and a little Jacuzzi.

My husband and I have been in Peninsula Del Rey. This is a wonderful community, it's in Daly City, and they call it luxury living.
There are separate apartments and the apartments have all of the amenities. They have a washing machine, dryer, bathrooms, and there are one- or two-bedrooms. In the kitchen, there's a refrigerator, a stove, and a dishwasher. There are some storage places too. In the bathroom, there's an emergency button if you have to press it. There is a 24-hour reception and an attendant at the door. People cannot get in unless they have a negative COVID result or they present the card of their completed vaccination.
The staff here is warm and they are always available.
Those who want to have a meal program can sign up for a meal program, but of course, it increases the amount that they're paying for rent.
There is transportation for medical appointments too.
We don't eat in the dining room simply because of medical issues, but the food here has been a moot question over the years. They have a restaurant but so many people say that the food is not hot. They do practice social distancing in the dining room. The food you have to pay extra to be delivered to you or you can order for takeout.
The facility was built around ten years ago. It adheres to all the requirements for earthquake preparedness. It's well-kept, clean, and with no smell anywhere except in the trash room.
The company that owns it has a number of other facilities and they have just recently got done upgrading the furniture in the common areas.
They have a place with stationary bikes, some weights for people to use, and the machine you walk on. The activities are different every day too, the activity director is fantastic. They have everything and anything that you need to keep active. They have exercises, movies, and crafts. They also have speakers who come in and I personally do a bible study every week.
We're living below market rate, so I would say, for us, the value for money is between a four or five. Every year they raise the rent so we are paying a thousand dollars more than we first came in.

Overall, Peninsula Del Rey is OK. I think it's fairly pricey but nice in many ways. There are many lovely people who work here and have been here for quite some time, then there are people who come and go. Theyve been doing a lot of remodeling over the last year, so it's been not that great. They redid the whole kitchen over and it's been a trial for everybody.

Peninsula Del Rey is the one I’m considering moving to. They have all 3 levels of care. I went to see an apartment; it was very nice. The dining room was lovely, bright, light, and had plenty of table space. Most of the tables were for 4 which is typical of a dining room. I was very pleased with the facility.
The community was very nice and clean. The people I met in the elevator and the ones I saw in various floors were very charming, very nice, and very congenial. It was opposite the police department, which gives you a wonderful sense of security. There is a hotel maybe 3 blocks away, so if you have visiting people, you could put them there if you couldn’t put them in your own apartment.

Strangely, I don't know how I came across Peninsula Del Rey because they called me. I must have contacted them on the internet or something. The staff is very excellent. We are in the independent living. I'm in an apartment, and it is very comfortable. It’s a one bedroom unit. I fix the food, and if we want to eat, we go downstairs in the restaurant. It is very nice and elegant. They have activities every day. Some are onsite, and some are offsite. I can't think of a thing to improve the facility. You can't go in unless you buzz in. It is a good place to live.

My sister is going to Peninsula Del Rey. We haven’t moved in yet, but it seems to be in good shape. It’s only 3 years old, so everything is up-to-date and in good condition. The accommodations are great. You have a lot of choices. They have a lot of activities going on. They have an exercise room and a theater. They have a beautiful dining room. I ate lunch there, and it was very nice. People can go in anytime during the day and order what they want. I would recommend it, and the staff is very, very friendly.

I'm happy to recommend Peninsula Del Rey. Two top reasons why I liked the place would be the accommodation. It's far better than anything I saw. It's modern and very clean. Another thing is the staff. They are wonderful, polite, kind, and friendly. Everybody helps all the time. When my mom walks down the hall, they even lend a hand or they greet her at the very least. They have a beautiful dining room. Some people aren't pleased with the bland food, but it's so much better than any food that I tasted in the other facility visits that I made.
