My mother is very happy at this facility. They have lots of activities. The facility is very clean and well staffed. The staff communicates well, and I even receive texts. My mother loves the food and says everyone treats her well. I see my mother almost daily, and there is no issue whenever I decide to stop by.

I liked Townsend House. Of all the ones I looked at here in Chico, it had everything I wanted and I felt it was comfortable. It was on one level, and we didn't feel isolated. The rooms were nice sized and they were all on the bottom level. I liked the atmosphere. It had a more open feel to it. They had a way of setting the temperature for each room. The chef seemed nice and personable. It wasn't as large as some of the other facilities. They had exercises and entertainment. They went up to where my father is which is about 40 miles away and interviewed him.

Townsend House is a single-storied, smaller place where everybody knows everybody. My mom has been there for a month, and we have not had any problems. It has a family environment.

My mother is ninety years old now and we needed to get a smaller facility for my mom where she can get a one-on-one assistance. She's mentally fine but she needs help with her hygiene and her bathing. The staff is congenial and creates a family environment so you don't feel like a guest, you feel like you're at home. It is a very family type environment for our mom to be in which means a great deal to us. They are incredibly attentive to her needs. Two weeks after she arrived there, she fell out of bed and totally smashed her face at two o'clock in the morning. They had her in the emergency and contacted my sister who lives closest to her and let her know that mom was stabilized. They didn't know what she was doing but probably it was just part of being disoriented. They were so conscientious and thorough for her entire care the next month. I cannot say enough good things about the fact that we didn't have to stand over them asking them to do things. Mom stayed in a studio, there are bigger suites available but mom just didn't require the space. What I like about it best is it's like a home you'll be living in with a living room and a dining area. It's very much a home environment. There is absolutely no clinical environment that you are aware of nor is there any smell that will lead you to believe it's an assisted living. They have multiple activities like outings, shopping, theater groups and pets come in every week. Their food is necessarily bland for the people that live there. If my mom wants coffee, tea juice or fresh fruits, it's available to her any time of day and the dining area has those.
