I toured Carlsbad by the sea and it was my favorite. The food is excellent, its just a lovely place, and its right by the ocean. I even signed up for it, but I backed out, because it was very expensive. It had everything. They have an outdoor and indoor pool, a staff member makes an exercise plan for each resident, they have balanced classes and strength classes, and they had a minister who comes every week for a talk. They have a salad bar, you can always have a filet mignon, and a salmon, and they always have three entrees; theyre very flexible.

Carlsbad by the Sea was not that high end. We did had a good meal there. We met the marketing staff, who were fine. The units were very nice. It's a much smaller facility, so they offered fewer services. There's a type A and a type B facility. One of them includes all of the services including nursing and assisted living, and in the other one, you have to pay extra for any extra services. It's right on the ocean, so that's very nice. The vast majority of the units don't look at the ocean, and there's traffic noise associated with that. If you want to live in the middle of the village in a three-story building, you have noise from the surrounding area. The food was very good, and the facility was fine.

Carlsbad by the Sea was nice. We walked across the street to a clubhouse that was right on the ocean. You could look down at the beach and it was beautiful. They even have functions there. We saw a couple of rooms which were very nice. We had lunch with one of the sales director and that was very good. However, it didn't quite appeal to our particular needs and desires.

Carlsbad by the Sea is a beautiful facility. We had lunch; the lunch was gourmet, and it was very nice but it’s very expensive. I thought the apartments were a bit small for our liking, but it was actually over our budget. They do not have a skilled nursing there, and they do not have memory care either. We dealt with one man, his name was Kevin and he was OK. We met a few of the residents, and it was OK. It was very clean and fine. It was a very homey feeling, the lounge area is beautiful, and they were having a birthday party celebration for somebody’s birthday when we were there, and there was a piano player.
The resident’s level education wise was a little higher standards, and I thought the people were a bit younger too, and it was a very active community. We had lunch together, they served you at the table, and there are several choices that was very nice much nicer than the other facility we went to.

Carlsbad By The Sea was the one I liked the best because it was downtown and right next to the ocean. I talked to the people there and they were happy. The rooms were great. They had a bedroom, a full kitchen and a laundry. It was a great place. However, it was a bit expensive.
